Drum lesson 2 : • Drum lesson 2 : accents I've created some free drones to help people with chanting & drumming! musicforhypnos... www.margarethar... www.shiftingwaves-com
Watching someone that talented with a single acoustic instrument really makes me contemplate how much time/money I've invested in digital music production. There is something innately different in human interaction with an instrument versus compositions/productions made up of recordings/samples and synthesizers etc. Music is within us...like deeply embedded inside all of us. I'm not sure what it truly is, but I am grateful to be able to experience it.
Holy smokes. You expressed that so beautifully! Your words danced across the screen in a rhythm that was so fun to see. Thanks for commenting so thoughtfully and sincerely -my sentiments exactly, in a much better packaging.
It's 2023 and I've just discovered your channel and it's awesome! This one video has broadened my horizons in terms of drumming. Thanks for the inspiration.
Another variation: I saw a video in which the drummer held a beater and a rattle in the same hand -- with the beater towards the drum, and the rattle on the outside so that it does not touch the drum. That, also, was a very nice effect.
Amazing share!!! Thank you SO much Margaret! We were just gifted our first hand drum…you opened us right up to see/feel how to play! 💝 Thank you Sister! 🙏
I’m blown away by this video. I am going to continue to explore my drum. I had discovered some of these things, but it is very very cool. I’m excited to try singing eith it.
Thank you I love this encouraging video. Just the right for my first playing of my Shamanic drum - so glad you named it this as I would not have discovered you!
considering purchasing a shamanic drum, this just convinced me to get one. The message at the end of the video was the precise reason i wanted to get a drum, so ...thank you!
what a lovely and beatifully authentic person you are Margaret! I have had my drum (made by myself at a festival workshop) for 6 years now and your the first video I have engaged with in a meaningful way, thank you for being so authentically YOU.
Whoa...😲 I was just looking for drum sounds on UA-cam, hoping to find some samples. You have more variety with this one drum than I've seen in all other videos today! Musicians will have richer palettes for expression. Thank you for this, ma'am. 😊
Lots of people commenting seem to be offended. I do understand their desire for things kept pure in their traditions, but to me some of the commenters seem to have some racial prejudice. Such as, "No European/white people are qualifiable to be a Shaman." In my occult background, having traversed some areas of the spiritual realm, believe it or not there is no skin color. Though some beings can be ordered to take on a more likeable human appearance with choice of "skin color", said beings are naturally radiant light beings. Each with a different personality. The key for ANYONE of any race to journey and visit with these beings is to induce trance. The way to induce trance with a drum isn't to change patterns, rhythms, or tones. Monotone is the correct way. Tune the drum to ring as an A note. Low A. Then hit the drum on the same location at 4 to 6 beats per second. Focus on the stick connecting with the same location on the drum. Imagine a pulsating heart on that spot, that it - and not you - is pushing your stick away from the drum rather than you pulling it away. Such focus stills your normal thought pattern. Continue until your striking the drum ceases to be any effort. It will feel like something (or someone) has taken care of operating your arm. At that point... Let the beating heart visualization dissolve away back into the drumhead. Once it's gone, you will realize you have entrained your brainwaves into a trance state. Your arm is still hitting the drum automatically. You will feel a gentle tug as though something (or someone) is trying to take you from your body to journey. Embrace it. Gonna the journey and an entirely different realm will reveal itself to you. The only problem going solo is that there is no independent drummer to call you back "home" after a certain amount of time. Since time and space do not exist there as it does here, you might find that hours went by during what felt like a short journey. Other realms are the opposite. What feels like a whole day there can be mere minutes here. Anyone can learn to be a Shaman. Drums are a safer way into trance than the harshness of hallucinogenic plants and fungus. Though, drumming can take longer to get there too if not experienced in "traveling." I appreciate your music video. But it is true... Shamanic drumming isn't "musical" at all. Well, maybe in its own kinda way. But not how one might expect.
Hello Kurt! Thanks for all your info. I am aware and have done shamanic journeying with the drum and the use of the rhythmic monotone. I guess I should rename this video as frame drum lesson. I do still think that the drum (shamanic or frame) is a creative way for self exploration, expression and is therapeutic also because drumming self induces a trance like state.
Margaret Harmer I bought an Irish Bodhran because I love Irish/Celtic music so much that I intend to learn it. However, I have found myself tuning it down for good bass and find myself getting into just a continuous 4 beats per second. Haha. Guess light trance is better than the Irish drumming :)
Thankyou 🤗 Just had a drum made for me so I'm just learning to drum .. this totally opened my mind when you said your express yourself through your drum for me that took the dogma of drum lessons off so to speak and allowed me to be free in my approach... Cheers for that 🦋
Love it! Love it! Love it! Thank you for sharing your blessing of drumming and creativity. Wow! So many fun ways to explore drumming in this short video. We appreciate it!
with love & respect, just to clarify... these are not Shamanic techniques... even the Drum itself, could just be a very good hand drum, not Shamanic... Blessings & Love
O got my Medicine drum todsy and note how the side if the beater also makes a different tone.so am playing g intuitively but I loved your video too thank you so much.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Learn rhythm instruments. Far cheaper then digital production.

Totally agree with You!
What a lovely poetic comment - art in itself :)

My uncle used to do that because I didn't want to shake the gord when I was little lol
He would sing peyote music and the type of drum they would use is a cast iron or aluminium kettle and in the inside would have a little water
I have had a shamanic drum for close to 30 years and no clue as to how to use it so thank you very much, I can get started..... finally!
丁寧に、演奏のしかたを教えて頂き嬉しく思います😊
Thank you Margaret! This is exactly what I've been looking for to incorporate into my shamanic drumming! Love it and Love you!!!

A bodhran is a fabulous drum and quite versatile in it's different playing styles. Glen Velez started out with a bodhran!
Yes. Seeing a lot of this attitude these days which is really sad.
