    The Cabaret
Alex Newell has always turned heads; from the time they appeared on the hit musical series Glee as the first openly transgender student on television, to his pop music career, to Broadway, their talent (and wardrobe) knows no bounds! Newell most recently wowed audiences in the Tony-winning revival of Once on This Island as the goddess Asaka, Mother of the Earth.

Wow! No, I mean WOW!!! I have heard many singers on UA-cam, both professional and amateur, perform this wonderful song, and up until now, my favorite has been Liz Callaway performing live with the NY Philharmonic. Not only because of her beautiful voice and interpretation, but also because of the huge and gorgeous orchestration. But this young lady just blew me away with just her voice and a great accompanist (to whom I also give props for doing such an amazing job on an extremely difficult arrangement). Her voice just soared to the stratosphere as Liz's does. But she impressed me even more due to the fact that she was singing it bare bones compared to what Liz had to back her up. What an amazing talent. I hope she goes far.

Alex uses they/them pronouns. And they are the DEFINITIVE Meadowlark performer for me, which is wild considering the song was originated by Patti LuPone!
I also really recommend Alex’s Meadowlark performance at Schwartz’s 70th birthday! That one had me in tears.

@@kathrynb514 I'm sorry, but do you think I give a shit about which pronouns Alex uses? Especially when they/them is plural. Does she/he/they/them have an alter ego or a split personality or something? Otherwise, using plural pronouns is not only grammatically incorrect, but just plain stupid. It doesn't matter a fig to me what gender this wonderful singer identifies as. All I'm interested in is whether she is talented or not. Is that okay with you?
BTW, I've heard a number of Patti Lupone's versions of this song, and while she has always been one of my favorite musical theater artists, as well as an amazing actress, I wasn't impressed with any of her renditions. So, even though Alex did an amazing job, I don't think Ms. Lupone set the bar very high.

@@finsterbaby1996 No. You use they/ them pronouns like they prefer or leave their name out of your filthy mouth.

@@lindaevergreen3778 First of all, how dare you literally demand that everyone comply and call someone by whatever pronouns they prefer. What an absolutely audacious statement in defense of someone whom I hugely complimented, and by the way, did so WITHOUT the use of any pronouns whatsoever. YOU are the one who brought up the ridiculous topic of pronouns, most likely, not in defense of Alex, but just to start an argument at the least, or a fight at best. So, now you've got one.
As far as me having a "filthy mouth," you're the one making demands, as well as insulting me, so check yourself to see who has the filthy mouth. Honestly, snowflake, I hope that you melt very soon so that those of us who still have some intelligence and common sense can make better use of the oxygen that you are completely wasting with your ridiculous and overreaching rhetoric. There are a multitude of much larger issues facing all of us in the world today for which you could make a case if you even paid the minimum of attention or even cared, but instead you foolishly waste your time (and mine) over "woke" nonsense that does nothing to improve anyone or anything. Come back when you have something of even the slightest intelligence to debate.
