Well, kinda.
She took me on a road trip to the beach I used to go to as a kid, a welcome respite from the desert summer.
That night we were alone on the beach, the waves lapping lazily on the shore as we listened to this song. A song I'd listened to out there on my own just a few short years before. It was a surreal moment of nostalgia for the past and contentment in the present.
Then she took her bare foot and spelled my name in the sand, and traced a heart around it.
Can't quite explain it now because we were only about 19, but part of me connected that with some other things and it clicked. She was trying to tell me she was in love with me, but she was too shy to say it. If she was anything like me, and she was, I'd have to guess she wanted with all of her will to shout it, but our insecurities get the best of us, and she told me with a simple name carved in the dense shoreline sand, and a full moon overhead
