6G Max T | TIG Welding For Beginners! From Root To Cap!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 жов 2024
- 6G Tig welding for beginners from root to cap is a welding test with a tig root pass on a 2" XXH wall, with a maximum tig welding procedure.
6G is where the pipe is fixed at a 45-degree angle and welded in this fixed position.
So, it basically covers flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead in a single position.
In this video, I will break down the steps to pass the 6G position test, starting with the root pass, hot pass and I will show the steps from fill passes to finish with a multi-pass cap.
The pipe welding techniques used, and the welding procedure as per ASME Section IX welder performance qualification (WPQ) pipe welding certification.

Love your videos. I work on boilers so it’s mostly tube welding but personally I prefer a 1/16 gap to a tight 3/32 and use 1/16 wire you just gotta feed like crazy on the bottom then keyhole the top and since it’s 1/16 wire you have more control over how much wire is being fed also I usually run the root at 120-130 amps on carbon and inconel but watching your videos is amazing cuz it’s interesting to see other peoples preferred techniques
Thanks for sharing your experience and technique! 👍
Out of all the experienced guys showing tutorials on UA-cam I like your format I appreciate your help.
Thanks brother I appreciate that 👊
Najjaci si!!! Super kvalitetan video ka i cili kanal! Nema nas svit!!
Amazing welding brother🥇! We can all watch as much as we can, we will probably never reach your level! You are a genius!!Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us mortals🤣
Thank you Mike😂!!
Speak for yourself primo I'm finna do the same thing
I'm here as a freshener . I haven't weld tig in over a year. Thank you for the video.
You welcome 👊
Thanks brother... I haven't done much tig on pipe pipe and now have to do some stainless testing and I just can't remember how to get comfortable on the awkward side... Was a little panicked but your videos are really helpful and I love your calmness.
Hope to see you out there on a job
✌️😁👍
Thanks for your comment, happy to hear that 👊👍
This is what I called PHENOMENAL
been struggling with this test especially my cap failed an xray test a while back but im hoping to take it again soon I’ve been practicing as much as I can
It’s all about practice bud, once you dial in you should be golden 👍
@@X3MTIGhow can a cap fail a x ray?
Many things like tungsten inclusion, undercut, lack of fusion, etc. @@andrest4k
@@andrest4ka bit of porosity can be the cause if a slight bit of wind blows your argon away
Damm that cap looks sick 🔥🔥🔥
Great idea lining up with the magnets, simple and effective. Beautiful cap. 👌🏻🍺
Good evening Sir,
Your a great weekend and a better person. Working by your side would be an honor one day!
I too am a Canadian Pressure welder based out of Stony plain.
phenomenal welds thank you for sharing your knowledge
Thank you so much for your support! 😊
I watch all your videos, thank you for make them Ive learn a lot from them
Thanks bud, happy to hear that 👍
Great video. I’m a beginner and I look forward to more videos.
Thanks man! 😊
Damn man, after so many videos I’m still impressed each time 🙌
Good job, brother. I liked that you didn't use rods to tack
Thanks 👍
Nice job, although I would have a smaller gap and single dip, flush and cap without walking using 2.4mm all the way. Back in the day we would fill and cap heavy wall with stick 🙂 Keep up the good work👌
Thanks for your comment comment bud. Definitely that set up is good as well, on some sites they have that procedure in place.
Badass video!!! The best channel out there!!!👍🏽
Thanks my friend 👍
For beginners but this dude picks the Widest gap and Thickest piece of pipe to weld. 😂😂😂 thats the best way to learn tho.
This video has really helped me thank you so much brother
Glad to hear it 💪
Nice weld tutorial!!!!
Beautiful thank you! Just interesting to see on your weak-side how you hold how you position yourself Etc be very helpful next time!
Looks great I’d love to see you do a 3/32 gap 4 tacks root with tig 3/32 wire and hot pass 7018 welding rod fill it flush with rod and cap it with 7018. I learned a lot and I’m struggling with the the tig root. I have a test coming up soon in august wish me luck
Love your videos in depth explanations. Can you do a video of 6" pipe 1/8 70s2 root. How to get reinforcement. Thanks
Thanks for your comment , if I have a chance I will do it. 👍
Did 6g last week, i welded 8 different pieces and last 4 i welded were good and the best one got sent somewhere to be tested (problems with tacking and some blackspots appeared in the root under tacks)
Great job👏 waiting for a new video😎
Thank you! 😊
Nicely done 👍
So good
I wait for use 70s-2 rod video. Aweseom bro.
Np bud 💪
love the videos man, beautiful coupon too.
I appreciate it!
@@X3MTIG You in the union in canada?
Thanks 🙏🙏🙏 add more videos
thank you 😉
Awesome ,i hope i can do like that🤩
You can do it!
Very helpful
Nice job
Nice job 👍
Great 👍👍👍👍👍👍 show what angle should be welded sir
badass right there
Thanks brother! 😎
Very good boss
😊 great video very well explained thanks for sharing that information I struggle all the time on the cap on pipe its goes flat and I would like to walk the cup is it hard 😊
Thanks bud, it is very hard in the beginning, but after couple of hundred pipes it’s getting easier
Big time nice welding
Sim uma bela apresentação de soldagem com a cerâmica aérea e colada ficou muito boa a filmagem bem regulada a máquina obrigado mestre 🙏
Nice explanation
Parabéns gostei muito do vídeo top
Thanks brother 👍
Another good video bud, how long are you waiting in between passes?
Hey bud, not too long, you wanna wait little bit longer before starting cap, just for pipe to cool down.
😊 good
Приветствую. Смотрю твои видосы очень интересно плохо что не знаю английского.
Can you make a video on hand positioning for beginners on this same type of pipe and weld
Salve salve mestres
Any tips on doing the the 6-3 part as a right hander? Or is it as sinple as learning to weld left handed will make life easier ...
Are you swapping between your right and left hand for each side or are you using your right throughout the vid?
Right hand, in the field I switch if I have to!
I’ve been able to get the root down but where I still struggle is the tie end that the only part that is giving me a hard time
great video, i’ve been learning TIG for about 2 months, but i can’t for the life of me get my tack tie-ins to be consistent, they always turn flat. am i just stuffing the wire too much?
Thanks for your comment bud, try to pause at the tack tie- ins and adding wire.
You capped it with 115 amps? Or 150?
115 amps
Very good🙏🙏🙏
Thanks a lot!
❤❤❤
I think my issue is my arc angle also I tend to wash out my bevel a lot
what type of tungsten do you uses ?
thanks X3M TIG !
2% Thoriated, 1/8 size
@@X3MTIG same here, I like how it welds. I guess you always use a respirator when sharpening it? I was thinking of switching to 2% lanthanated to completely get rid of the hazard.
BTW just passed my F6 SS, F6 carbon, F3F4 XXH, now I'm off to fort hills. thanks for the help!
Do a Monster coupon combo please
When I get chance will do 👍
Sir for beginners tig welding basic
Nice video. What's your tungsten length for your hotpass. I'm practicing for 2 inch pipe 1/4 inch thick. Having trouble with hot pass. Thank you.
Up to 5 mil
@@X3MTIG Thanks!
What causes the cup to slip while capping 6G?
Impurities and heat input , creates greasy and slippery surface.
what is voltage and amps you used for penetration tag ?
Une question ?? Faut il un temps de refroidissement entre chaque passe ?? Merci.
Hey bud, I usually let it cool down before capping, it’s just a carbon steel so no any specific inter passes temperature procedures.
Whats harder stick or tig?
Tig is the hardest to learn and definitely less beginner friendly than all other welding procedures!
Can you do a chrome tutorial?
I like raise your standards
for filar why do you have to start welding it from above
Can you show us how to do Stainless Steel SCH 10 2 ‘’ please
When ever I’ll get chance I’ll do it 👍
❤
What size tungsten
1/8
Do u use both arms or are you using your dominant arm for both sides? I'm right handed and I can't walk the cup with my left hand, anything with my left hand I gotta freehand
Hey bud, I’m right handed as well, I’m using my left for freehand too.
@@X3MTIG so u r using right hand to walk the cup on both sides of the pipe?
@@chrisplayz253 yes, except if I’m in really bad spot and I have to use my left for small sections.
@@X3MTIG thanks buddy appreciate your efforts 👍

This is a side solution…. the heat input rules say different.
