    The road through Valley of the Gods is unpaved & 17 miles, but no problem for passenger vehicles, better than Monument valley road, just as scenic without any traffic. Thanks for the memories...

      MrNoblemanoflove I was thinking of driving through the Valley of the Gods but I didn't dare doing it with the big RV. Another time perhaps.

    we took this tour with a navajo guy during the tour he turned on some native flute music. It just so happened that I too had the very same tune. I turned mine on at one of the ancient sites without him knowing where it was coming from & freaked the guy out! He was our best buddy after that & he invited us to his hogan where his grandmother cooking so we got to eat with him & hear more stories of his family.

    And I am glad you enjoyed this as well. I am half Navajo and Pueblo. This place is also sacred but to the Navajo people. I wish it didn't have to be a tourist attraction as well. We come here to pray to the creator. Its just not rocks but meanings to the Navajo people just as Spider Rock, and the Shiprock is.

    The View Hotel!!!
    I'm going to stay there next summer!
    And I might see for my first time (and only time) the Milky Way! Cannot wait...
    Just few questions:
    1. The Navajo tour at the Monument Valley is optional or not?
    2. That same tour is a must? It has a guide explaining the Valley? and if it has, it is worth it, or you can just drive freely around those roads with your car without having to listen to the guide?
    3. The prices for the 2 and 3 hours tours were per person? Or it was a total?
    Last thing, i am seriously thinking to add a detour to visit Lake Powell... never realized it was that beautiful!

    • @TravelingRobert
      @TravelingRobert  10 років тому +1

      Andrea Lumpp Hi Andrea. The prices are per person, so yes, it is pretty expensive, especially considering the guide doesn't talk much. He will tell you the names of the sandstone formations when you stop at the view points but not much more unless you ask him questions. Maybe we got an introverted guide, don't know. If your car can handle the dirt road it is probably better to do your research and drive it yourself at your own pace. The only part not accessible to private vehicles is the back of the valley where the arches are. That's the third hour of the longer tour. Enjoy your trip!

    • @AndrewLewer90
      @AndrewLewer90 10 років тому

      TravelingRobert Thank you!
      Yeah, i will do that.
      There's no point in paying someone that much, just to tell you the names of the rocks...
      I understand that they live with only that type of income, but 85 usd per person is a bit too much...
      In your videos i saw that alot of these awesome National Parks are near Las Vegas, in Colorado and Utah.
      The problem is that my trip will become too long considering that i would like to start my trip in San Francisco then Los Angeles, Las Vegas, etc..
      My question is:
      Since you visited both, what do you recommend to visit? San Francisco or these National Parks?
      Keep in mind that i have to sacrifice one of them, if i visit the other one.
      Thanks again!

    • @TravelingRobert
      @TravelingRobert  10 років тому +1

      Andrea Lumpp Oh, that's a tough one, I don't know if I can answer that. It is really up to you. Are you more interested in city life or nature? Check out my video on San Francisco. Maybe it will help you make your decision. San Francisco - California Road Trip Part 5

      TravelingRobert Thank you!
      Sometimes i need these kind of help...
      Btw, San Franscisco it is.
      I choose it for one major reason: It's uniqe.
      Sure, those National Parks are beautiful, but in the end, they are a huge amount of rocks...
      Furthermore i would have missed out the Pacific Coast Highway...
      Thanks again.
      In these two last year i asked you so many questions i feel like i owe you something... :D
      You're better than a travel agency...
      I hope that, till next video, i will have no more questions :D
      Have a nice day!

    Thanks for a nice video. We are planning to visit in late May / early June. Is that a good time of the year to visit the valley?
    What is the best time of the day see nice colours? Morning, Afternoon, Evening or some other time?
    If you have a four wheel drive, do they allow you to drive by yourself?

    • @TravelingRobert
      @TravelingRobert  8 років тому +1

      +Sanjeev Dandekar Hi, thank you. That is the time of the year we went. The mornings were very pleasant, the afternoons very hot, especially in the sun and the nights a little chilly but not too bad. The classic view of Monument Valley from the aptly named "The View" hotel is facing east so I think perhaps evening is best for the colors although you might also want to catch the sunrise from there. Hey enjoy your trip!

    I’m in Moab but I’m thinking of driving to monument valley and back in a day. Would like to camp on BLM land in Valley of the Gods but we are flying out of Grand Junction the following day so we prob won’t . If I didn’t already have a hotel reserved in Moab that night .....

    Do you have to pay for the ride on those dirt roads through the valley? Or, can you hike in and camp in the valley? Thanks! Great share!

    • @TravelingRobert
      @TravelingRobert  8 років тому

      +MrMCBvideo You have to pay if you have an RV or a vehicle not suitable for the dirt road. You can not camp in Monument Valley, or hike without a Navajo permit.
