    A shining example and reminder of what we are lacking today in the opera houses:
    Real excitement and pure sentiment.

    Rosa Ponselle who described Stracciari's voice as "a shower of diamonds". He made normal singers sound ordinary and his singing is superior to any baritone singing world wide today, His voice never leaks air, his pppp and his ffff are flawless. His decrescendos are perfect. His voice is about luminousity. Today baritones sing too dark and push air against the sound: not this man. He does not sing wooly. Only Mattia Battistini comes close to him technically, but then with only half the voice.

    I remember discovering his voice as a child and reading that he had the most beautiful of all baritone voices, certainly you would have to search far today to find anyone with such a beautiful sound in the voice.

    I am searching for the book about Stracciari’s singing technique. The French version is called: Chanter c’est facile avec la méthode de Stracciari. On Amazon it is announced out of print. Anybody out there know where I could find it?

    • @boundary2580
      @boundary2580 2 роки тому

      It says it's in print again, but is it really written with any relation to Stracciari himself? It says it was published in 2012.

    Merci Edmund StAustell de m'avoir fait découvrir cet immense baryton que je ne connaissais pas, eh oui, je le reconnais !
    On retrouve toute la technique italienne traditionnelle, et notamment un des piliers et secrets de cette technique : "penser à la note, prendre la respiration, se mettre en apnée", 3 temps obligatoires avant d'attaquer la 1ère note d'une phrase, le tout avec l'habitude en une demi seconde. Car on chante toujours en apnée, d'où la nécessité, comme je le dis à mes élèves, de pratiquer les exercices de respiration que je leur demande de faire !
    Pour entrer dans cette technique, merci de me contacter sur l'adresse mail indiqué sur mon website !
    Par ailleurs, l'interprétation est remarquable, le tempo lent, ce que j'aime beaucoup, car c 'est le signe d'une parfaite maitrise technique de la voix.
    A presto, signore e signori !

    I think, both contemporaries Stracciari and Titta Ruffo were equal in their art. Stracciari was able to keep his vocal shape much longer.

    Can't stand singers with bleats instead of vibratos. If you want to hear one of the great early voices listen to Ellore Bastianni. I head him at La Scala before he got hired at the Met. He used to sing Tonio to my Silvio in Vienna under von Karajan.

    • @tkmmusician
      @tkmmusician 7 років тому +1

      Ettore Bastianini, not Ellore Bastianni. And while i'm a great Bastianini (and Merrill!) fan, Stracciari was considered by his peers to be one of the greatest of his time, alongside de Luca.

    • @hiyadroogs
      @hiyadroogs 6 років тому +5

      +Claude Heater Perhaps you are too familiar with the modern wobble to appreciate the true vibrato, which Stracciari possesses. A tremolo, sometimes referred to as the goat bleat, or caprino, is much quicker than this, & is a vocal affliction which prevents legato singing. Vibrato occurs in the voice between 5.2 & 7.2 pulses per second. Any slower than 5 pulses per second is always wobble, caused by overdriving the voice for volume. Any faster than 7 pulses per second is a tremolo, caused by unrelieved tension in the vocal cords caused by poor technique, an imbalance in the registers & a lack of functional freedom. While the wobble will still allow passable singing & relative control, at least until the over driving becomes chronic & the top notes begin to fail. The tremolo however, causes such impedance to functional freedom, that a professional career would be impossible. Those afflicted would rarely see the stage, & the handful that briefly made It have suffered very rapid disintegration of their voices before being forced to retire 30 years before their time. Pop singers often suffer from tremolo, because little is asked of their voices in terms of range & amplitude. Opera singers who suffer from this distressing affliction never leave the student stage. Tremolo is uneven in amplitude, & changes speed throughout a very curtailed range. It makes florid singing very difficult due to tension, & limits the amplitude of the voice by preventing functional freedom. Remember that the singers often accused of tremolo recorded on the acoustic recording process which was driven by clockwork, which often varied in speed. When played back at the assumed 78 rpm of the recorded speed, they are usually too fast & give the wrong timbre to the voice. Fernando De Lucia was often a victim of this incorrect play back speed. Once engineers learned that De Lucia often transposed, his voice lost its goat bleat & became sonorous & rich. It should have been obvious that he possessed a true vibrato, because his vocal control & florid singing were astonishing. A tremolo would have completely prevented that.
