Thank you so much for this tutorial! I took two beginner classes, in Hawaii, that each lasted 30-45 min. In each class I learned 3 chords, no strum patterns. I wanted to learn more so I've been teaching myself at home. This video helped so much! I got to see not only how this strum pattern works, but how to read it as well. What I appreciate most about this video is the small breaks in the red line that shows where you are in the video. Each break being at the beginning of each part in the lesson. That made it so much easier for me to go to the parts of the lesson that I needed to repeat over and over to learn the material. As for the difficulty, I started out closer to a one or two. I struggled a bit with it, but with practice each day I've gotten so much better. I'm a fast learner and, after a few days of practice, I'd rank this at a 4. I know I still have so much to learn and I'll be looking for more of your videos. Thank you again!
I am doing fine with the strum pattern on Lava. I learned it a couple of months ago.I love to play Lava. So glad I found & learned it. I am a beginner of one year. My problem is I still have some trouble changing to 3 finger chords, ex. G7 & E7 & playing them cleanly all the time. Inconsistent. Also, trouble chucking consistently. But, I am continuing to practice & making slow progress.
I LOVE that you have the notes on the staff to follow along with and the up/down strum pattern. This is making it WAY easier learn. Your videos are awesome! Thank you so much!!!
I'll use caps for the accent he talks about. The strum pattern is this. down, DOWN, up, down, up. DOWN, up (that's one measure, repeat it over and over). It sounds okay if you don't do the accents, but better if you do do the accents. Just go slowly over and over again until it becomes muscle memory. It takes time, but you can totally do it!
How about pronouncing the name right!! Not youcanlaylay!!and this is an island song so Show some respect for the Hawaiian culture and language!!! Strum sucks I feel like you just lost it!!! It's an island song not a youkalaylay song what you lack is the island feeling!!! You howlies are all alike

THANK YOU! I couldn't put my finger in it but I swore it didn't quite sound right. Playing with this strum pattern sounds more authentic to me!
Your most welcome!
