Pure Magic !!! - a thin white line goes back to Weather Report with Jaco P in the 70s. I'm flattered to hear some new music performed by one of my bass-heroes, Marcus Miller.

Believe me, this rehearsal is nothing compared to the actual performance... The show was really a case of "you had to be there"... One of the most interesting concerts I've ever been to, considering that I'm Turkish and a big fan of Marcus. As Marcus stated during a break: "this is the future of music, combining cultures."

Marcus Is always fantastic, but the rest of the group is also amazing. I like a lot Federico´s playing, he is an extreme sensitive person. The composition is very powerful.

Agreed: Very nice 9/8 groove. Feels very natural for me to feel in 4 1/2 which is exactly how the bass, drums, foot tambourine are playing the groove; main riff is too. Definitely agree with feeling the notes "slow" or "longer" as you put it; simplifies the groove and makes it relatively easy to blow over (or just play) odd meters. Would be a serious workout if this had a bunch of crazy changes instead of just a modal groove, right?!?

Amazing and yes I would call it 9/8 or rather count 1-2 1-2 1-2 1-2-3 - listen to the main riff-rhythm. If you look at Marcus his foot seems to be doing 4 against it so the riff ends up on off-beat every second time. The key for me is either feeling the one in the subdivison I wrote earlier or, as Marcus, just count 4. For me when it´s fast I always try to count/feel "slow" (long notes) ;-)
