Those 10-10s are what brought me to this channel, one of the first videos I watched on vintage saws was your Pro 10-10 and I have been here ever since. It was what opened up my eyes to other vintage saw brands and it with my grandfather in-law's Homelite Super XL Automatic started me on my journey to all of the knowledge I have accumulated thus far and I'm still accumulating!
RookieChainsaws you are goin to be an above average builder and can’t wait til you are ready to port one for me ,, love to you. And the girls. You will be missed at B S
@@BuckinBillyRaySmith well I guess that means there will have to be another one next year! Already told everyone in my entire family I am going next year lol
I use both...skip and full...prefer the skip for most cutting and quicker to file up....full is smoother on smaller wood and limbing...whatever makes ya happy. 👍
I prefer skip tooth too. They say it's better for beginners but I don't think so considering it just rips 😂 and the saw is potentially more powerful with skip because it's dragging less
I watch bc you are interesting and informative, and I like wood cutting. But mainly you are awesome thanks buckin for doing this for all of us. Keep Up the good work!!!👍
Buckin' Billy Ray Smith I’m a coal miner from southern Indiana watching your videos got me out there in the trees I didn’t even know that was a thing around here everyone uses bucket trucks. Climbing is way more fun tho. I’ve been learning all I can and working in the trees I plan on making a go of it thank you
@@salty_honky way to go Neil im from so illinois but ive been doin Treework in Washington state for over 20 yrs i hope you do great keep us posted let us know how your doin buddy
Happened to me today actually had to buck up an ash log an noticed the saw dipping to the right so i touched it up now my 372 is ripping. Last safety meeting at my shop me an someone was talking about filing its so important to file correctly especially doing crane removals when it comes to the last butt log pick you want to cut all the way around an cut straight good stuff buckin love it
Maintained equipment makes everything so much easier! It only takes a little time here and there to make things run smooth as silk. Thank you for sharing, I'm afraid if I run ground chain I won't be able to go back😂 love to you and the family❤️

Hehe I can smell the 2 stroke and it’s nice!! I’ve always ran full house but have wondered about skip. Good to know, thanks Buckin. How’s everyone doin today?
I came here after hearing mike give ya a shout out from outdoors with the Morgan’s, I subbed and have been binge watching ya ever since. ✌️ from Ontario. 👍
Buckin i love my macs an my husky chainsaws as well as anyone but what keeps me watching your videos is your ATTITUDE an what you TEACH KINDNESS LOVE an that being HAPPY is a choice so Sir I THANK YOU an everyone have great day cause you deserve it
I had to go back and watch this after yesterday's video... just was thinking back then if Buckin used a semi skip tooth and you used one yesterday and it was very impressive... I should of shouted out during this video then but now I think it's all in the timing a few years later. Good job Billy ray! These older videos make sense now for me and others.. cut -n- buck all hearty my friend. Always love the content from then to now 2022.
I just got a great running old Stihl 038 magnum 2 that used to be my uncles, its in awesome shape for its age and I know it’s from the 80s because it says made in west Germany on it so it was before the Berlin Wall fell, anyway,it came with a brand new 30 inch full house on er,gonna do my own tests against my 066 with a skip tooth chain 🤠
Buckin'...A while back you did a similar video showing that the angle and the ltop plate length of chain had little to do with it pulling but the rakers were very important. I have also found that a chain that is loose in the bar groove is also a common problem. I know you go up a chain gauge when this happens to a bar but I close the rails with an old Sivey bar rail closer. I don't square grind chain so "getting the gullet" is important to me as you demonstrate on your round filed chain. I was reading on Madsens' website why they think getting the gullet on square filed/ground chain is important. But then again they probably hve cut as many millions of board feet of timber either. Keep the positivity flowing. Wish some of it would wear off down here in the States.
Don't worry about it buckin. I'm thinking it's just a broken blood vessel. LOL. Thanks for another lesson on sharpening techniques. I am getting better each time because of your videos.
Hey man, so Im new to chainsaws and I got a Husqvarna 444sg from my grandpa. 40years and still going strong, amazing. However I did not do a good job at all with filing when I started using it.,. Not at all.. I have since got a good filing guide and new files and raker guide. Still the saw pulls to one side and binds up constantly. I was pretty much ready to replace the saw/buy new bars for it when I saw this video. I have been watching your videos, but this one really saved me. I have been filing one side against the tooths and not realised that it could cause problems. Really focused to get the filing the same on both sides and now it goes in super smooth! You definitely earned yourself a subscribe with this one! Thanks
10-10a is my go to saw, I like it better than my newer saws, the sound, the smells and the feel of the saw in my hands. I'll be bringing my 10-10a and other Macs to Buckin Stock for some friendly competition. See ya there Buckin and Friends 👊
friend you are most welcome thx for speakin up .. please follow yer heart , this is you life , have your own experience , dont take my word for it that its amazing , thats my experience ...love ...
I learned something I didn't know I needed to learn. That's why I can't wait till the next chapter of Buckin' Bill Rays book of life. Buckin' you make it easy to be kind.
Was interesting how a while back Bobby walker said some of the fastest chains to ever race in competition were hand file and some were round ground. I remember him saying something along those lines.
Hello, Buckin' been following you for a long while. Your'e doing a mighty fine job of instructing people out there on saws and how to use and maintain them! I have been collecting Macs since my first Pro Mac 10-10 in 1998. I am asking if you will do a video on servicing and adjusting points and ignition timing on these older saws. It would probably help many of us get the best performance out of them. Keep up the awesome job and looking forward to your next video!!!! Shawn from Texas.
Nice going buckin, love this info videos, always something to learn.big welcom to all the New subs, big hello to all of the buckin army, stay safe, be kind, love to all
Man that husky sounds mean, is there any way you can put it in a video maybe showing the muffler a little i want to get an idea how to build one simular
Hey Buckin', thanks fer another informative video. I understand the go pro case and the low audio, but watching you in your element with those chainsaws always makes for a good time. Your eye's looking better, stay safe and keep moving.
I've tried the skip tooth vrs a full house on my saw. 59 cc. And the full house is faster . Always thought the skip would be. Glad buckin talked about this before. Thanks !
HI BUCKIN IVE seen this be 4 when the bar gets a lip on it all the way around it will cut 2 ,1 side and it won't cut the same or go through the wood until U file or grind that lip off OMG 3 19 2O23
Skip tooth cuts a little slower but it is easier on the saw. I have a 24" Huskie bar with skip tooth chain on my 3.7ci 60cc TimberBear and it pulls it no problem. Switch to the 20" bar with full chisel chain and it will bite really hard, especially in Pine. I need to rig up a bar on my paps old D-36. It has the 80cc "Cart engine" with the removable head and the big old Tillotson HL87D Carb. Problem is finding a Bar that will mount up to the old girl. It currently has a stubby little 16" sprocket nose bar on it and what looks like 1/2 chain. Not sure a modern chain will work on it. The chain that's on it is shot. Rusty and ground down to nubs.
yep one of your new subscribers, from brittany France, that came in nice and early this morning, before i light up the sawmill and saws. nice work buckin' ;0)
I love those old McCullough chainsaws I don't know why they have so much pool looks like to me about a 4 foot log and Rollin just awesome hey this is Daniel Boone's saying have a good one love it
Another thing that can cause an angled cut is rocking your chain. I have had this happen out on the trail a number of times. I rock the chain, then the next tree, the saw cuts crooked. Put on a new chain and the problem is gone. Rocking a chain in essence is the same as having a chain only sharp on one side.
Buckin could you make a video how to correct a saw that's cutting on a curve witch side to correct the way it cutting that has never been my strong suit if you can it would be greatly appreciated thanks
The first time this ever happened to me was with a little Stihl MS 160. And my saw curved so badly it bound up within the depth of the width of the bar. I scratched my head for a while. I though my bar was bent at first. Then I replaced the chain. The carving went away.
Beginning of video was exactly what I was going thru today. I was scratching my head in middle of bush.... Thought I was doing everything right... Then the saw was cutting on an angle....
For me crooked cutting or "saddling" happens like Bucking said, when the bar is buried, otherwise not so much at all. In softer woods like maple i like the 28 skip but in harder woods like oak i prefer the 24 full comp. More teeth in the wood with the 24!
I thought perhaps my bar was bent on my cheap Poulan in some way so i bought a new one. Now I just have to get my husqvarna 51 running again and I'll have two good saws again
I think it just ME that causes the "curve". I think I press with my left hand. If I put my left hand closer to the plane of the blade on top it goes straighter. My chains are sharpened on a machine which is set evenly on both sides. Same angle, same tilt, same rakers, same amount of tooth left, new chain, old chain. I've been cutting since 1972 with many kinds of saws and if I push too hard with my left hand it cuts crooked. Not usually curved like your example, just going off angle. I have two Maxx grinders. One for .325 and the other for 3/8 chain. Maybe I missed something in your explanation.
I have total about 300 saws with my parts saws. I have over a 100 that are ready to go. I have Macs/Jonsered/Husqvarna/Echo/Reminton/lots of Stihl/Clinton/David bradly/Homelite/. Have you ever seen a electric start Remington mighty mite?
