Thank you good sir, just got my first hydraulic jack last night. Never used one before (I’m 22), since I want to learn the basics of car maintenance, decided to get one. Now thanks to this video. I know how to operate it. From purging the air to lowering the jack.

Thanks sir for a great video. Purchased a new jack yesterday and couldn't get it to lift, watched your video and it worked. Great job!!!

Oh my gosh, thank you! I just bought a new jack and it was not lifting. I was afraid I was gonna have to return it but wouldn't have been able to get another since it was the last. I did exactly what you said and it worked perfectly, so thanks again!

This was a big help! Thanks. Had no idea the handle worked on the valve. It's literally nowhere in the manual. Not only that the card that came with the jack gives a completely different method--asking you to remove the plate to purge. Gotta stop letting engineers write manuals. They don't speak humanese.

The oil filler plug is under the cover plate on top of the jack and the plug is in the bottom. usually has a flat screwdriver head on in and maybe a red cap on top of it.
Release valve is the one you twist left to release the pressure to allow the jack to lover the car.

Actually you should loosen the release valve, pump and then partially open the fill plug/screw and you should hear air escape now you have purged air.

what is a release valve? and a fill plug/screw? do all jacks have those? does the jack in this video have those?

Thank you for the instruction. My jack was pumping up OK but when I release the pressure the whole thing collapses!

As already commented in an earlier post, this video completely contradicts what is printed in the owners manual that accompanies the jack! The customer service isn’t too good in my experience either, so this anomaly explains it.

How do you change the seal on a sgs 2.5T trolley jack. Lifting range 75-515mm. Model number:TJ2.5LP?

This will only work if you sufficient hydraulic oil in the jack. If you have an old jack that doesn’t lift after this it’s either low on oil or the oil seal has perished.

    "Get those video".
That's why your jack won't lift...

  • @lewisheilig3623

I own a similar jack except mine has additional mechanical parts that will limit the lifting mechanism from dropping so that if the piston fails, the load will still be held. After using this jack for 10 years, I found that the car was dropping 1-2 centimeters while supported by the jack. Today I purged and added new oil. I found it easier to place the jack vertically in a plastic milk crate so that the bleeding hole was pointing upward. After completely removing the bleeding hole screw, I could see the ball bearing check valve at the bottom of the bleeder hole. I added a bit of new oil in the hole and pumped very slowly until the new oil dropped under the steel ball. I repeated until all the internal air had been replaced by new oil. I used about 100 ml. of oil. Then I put the jack back on the floor horizontally and with the valve closed, I pumped up the jack to its full height. Then I released the mechanical locking mechanism and lowered the jack. Then I rechecked the oil level for a second time following the same routine. You should use oil designed specifically for hydraulic jacks. I hope this extra information helps.

WRONG. you need to pump with the valve open and then open the oil filler plug to let the air out.
