How To Refill And Purge A Hydraulic Trolly Jack

  • I will show you how to ad oil to your hydraulic trolly jack or floor jack. This will keep it performing properly. When you first buy a jack you will need to bleed the jack of any air. Manufactures may not put enough oil in so a top up of oil is often necessary. Purging a trolley jack of air can help fix a jack that won’t lift or won’t stay lifted

    Great video, thanks.
    I found with the "fill plug" that applying pressure with your thumb directly over it in a clockwise or circular pattern gets it back in the hole in seconds.

    PERFECT! Solved my problem. My trolly jack all of a sudden would not lift very high and even then it would deflate upon its own weight. My jack is 30 years old and when buying the hydraulic oil I had a choice between AW-32 or AW-46 ("W-46 which is thicker and less likely to leak from an older machine") I drained the old oil and followed your video - 10/10 - Thanks!

      Excellent. I’m glad the video helped. Sagging during lift is most likely due to air in the ram. Glad you were able to fix it. And thanks for the tip about the thicker oil. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe

    Just used this to add oil to my jack in the UK. It needed a LOT. Getting rubber bung back in was a trial but all seems to work proper now!

    Hello. My floor jack is leaking oil from the release valve. Is there a fix for this? Thank you very much for your videos.

    • @BillOfAllTrades2016
      @BillOfAllTrades2016  12 днів тому +1

      If you screw the valve all the way out(be prepared for oil to come out) there will be an o ring in the hole where the valve sits. Remove the o ring and inspect for damage. If damaged take to local hardware store to buy replacement. Then refill jack and repeat the purge process in this video. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe

    Is it worth to change the seal or just keep on refilling the oil?

    • @BillOfAllTrades2016
      @BillOfAllTrades2016  4 місяці тому

      Depends on the brand and cost of the jack. You will have to price out seal kits and compare the cost to buying a new jack.

    So what if once topped up and purged multiple times, it only lifts a car upto half it's ability?

    • @BillOfAllTrades2016
      @BillOfAllTrades2016  Місяць тому

      The seal on the ram may be worn out. When you jack it up with no load and leave it for 20 minutes does the jack sag down at all?

      @@BillOfAllTrades2016 Thanks for replying. I actually have two with the same problem. Both when jacked up halfway stay in position over night. One when jacked up fully until the side bars touch the frame stayed up after 1hr the second runs out just short of the side bars hitting the body and when pumping is stopped sags a little and then remains at height for 1hr+
      The pump action on the second is noticeably heavier on the second than the first.

    What if it leaks oil from the open/closed valve? Is that normal?

    • @BillOfAllTrades2016
      @BillOfAllTrades2016  3 місяці тому +1

      That is not normal. Most likely your seal is worn out. If you pull that valve all the way out there is a small o ring that can be replaced. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe
