  • PLEASE NOTE: Runaway Campers now have brand new FIBERGLASS Composite 2020 campers - no wood from now on in Runaway Campers!
    Check them out here: • A 2020 Runaway Camper ...
    We now own the 2020 Runaway RangeRunner fiberglass composite model!
    Charles Moman describes his brand new Runaway Camper Navigator and the options he added to the standard model. Purchased in August, 2016.
    PLEASE NOTE - when hitching up the Navigator, I did NOT cross the chains as my wife TOLD ME TO DO. I know you are supposed to - I just did not want to take the time to do it because I wanted to get to my tour of the camper. YES, CROSS YOUR CHAINS! This is especially for potential Runaway camper owners. Not expected . . . . but if my video has helped you to decide to order a Runaway, you could give my name as a referral when ordering your camper? No worries whether you do or don't - I was not even thinking about referrals when I made this Runaway introduction video.

    Folks - I know you should cross the chains - I just did not in the video. In my video description above, I CLEARLY state that I KNOW I should have crossed the chains, but just kept on with filming my video. I also have a red box pop up at that moment in the video (around 2:48) where I say all of this again. I really cannot count the number of comments I have deleted constantly telling me to cross my chains. I do cross them in actual use and it is explained quite well in my video description and in the video with the red box. I understand people mean well when they comment though.

    Oh my , I think this is what I'm looking for. Small enough and lite enough (?) to pull with my 4 cylinder Hyundai. Very helpful on the thought of the extra purchases and how and why on the uses! And just seeing how one could enter that's less mobile was a great idea to put in your video. I'm female and I would be able to handle this set up and my cousin is handicapped. I just wish this was big enough to have a bed at the front for an extra person. Of corse I could purchase the bigger but price and weight could be an issue. Love the little extra touches your wife added also and seeing one could set up inside on a fold out without busting your brains lol. Thanks for the video, good job!

      Thank you! Today we are doing final packing for a trip to Florida for the 2nd annual Runaway Campers Homecoming Rally. I will be filming at the Rally like last year. Last year I did a Runaway Factory Tour film - look it up on this channel. While I am there, I will be filming 2.0 version of this primer video. It will show all of the modifications we have made, as well as a general review of using out 4x8 Runaway camper for almost 3 years. It will be posted here in a few weeks at the most. You might also look at my new UA-cam channel - Moment by Moman - which we just started and it will feature our trips and others things. There is also a FaceBook page by the same name, as well as my momentbymoman Instagram account. We love our Runway, but it is not for everyone, but it works for us. Good luck in your decision making. The 6x8 version is becoming more and more popular, but we like the smaller size.

      You could make one out of an old trailer pretty easily. It would be even cheaper if you can scab the materials.

    Hi Charles. I love your Runaway videos. You provide so much valuable information. Thank you. I am 6'1with a longer torso versus leg length (30.5 in inseam). I am trying to decide which works best for me. What I have done is mark against my bedroom wall 42 inches, factoring a 4" foam mattress; then tape some twine across the wall at the presumed runaway interior height. I can then simulate sitting up on the mattress to determine how much bedroom I would have. Thanks again for everything you and your wife Susie have done to promote the Runaways.

    If you have to change a tire on the trailer, just set all your leveling blocks under the rear jack matching thwheel and raise it up with stabilizing jack. between the other wheel, stabilizing jack, and hitch connection you have a 3 point stand. Is doesn't get any safer or faster than that, BTW Im from Ocala as well. lol.

    Instead of those yellow "Lego" levelers, a layer or two of 2 x 6 works well, and usually leaves enough extension for the wheel chocks.

    Very good video. Actually, if the chains are coming from a central point on the trailer frame you do not need to cross the chains. When the chains are coming from either side of the trailer frame, then you need to cross them. It's a good habit to be in but you did not do anything wrong as your chains come from the same point. But then again, you should have listened to your wife. (just because) :)
    again, nice informative video. Thank you.

    Two advantages to 15" wheels: longer between bearing lubes (wheel turns fewer times per mile) and a bit closer to level with a pickup or SUV. For my Honda Fit, 12" wheels make my kit trailer nearly level.

      Thanks - I will be uploading several new ones in the next few weeks, including a brand new version 2.0 of this one. Also, how to hitch this one safely and another modifications video. Be on the lookout! I have also just started a new channel - Moment by Moman - that will be active before too long.

    Fantastic! Thank you for the video. Gives me hope there is one that fits my needs. I am 66 and not married and love to travel and do not want to spend 100.00 a night in motel rooms! Great video!

      Thanks. Check out my latest Runaway videos and I think you will be convinced! I have new ones on each specific model, a factory tour, a version 2.0 of this video, our 3-year review and much more. If you wanted to go really light - check out my video on the "Slice" Runaway. It is 4 x 6.5 and used with motorcycles, but many solo travelers use it with a car. Like this one - just a little shorter. Good luck shopping!

    Great video! Thanks Charles. One thing, I didn't catch the dimensions of the trailer. Don't they make a 6x8 version? Yours seemed to be a little narrow for my taste, is it a 4x8 or 6x8? Thanks again.

    • @charlesmoman
      @charlesmoman  5 років тому

      It is the 4x8 and yes, they make a 6x8 version. Look on this channel and you will see MANY new Runaway videos I have created in the past 6 months, plus a version 2.0 of this video. I have videos on each Runaway model, interviews of owners, several modifications videos, a factory tour and more. Plus a three year update of our ownership of our Runaway.

    I was wondering how changing a tire would work, if there was a jack or not. I was thinking you'd lower the stabilizers in the back and then crank up the hitch in front so much that both tires would be off the ground, would that work?

    • @charlesmoman
      @charlesmoman  4 роки тому +1

      Some Runaway owners do that, but personally I would not. I carry a small bottle jack and it works great.

    we just purchased a used one, great info ! we will be using it in the areas of the Cherokee National Forest, TN and North GA mountains. a 12 x 12 canopy, and some fold up tables. and portable kitchen area, for the Coleman grill will top it off.

    Hi Charles, I was really looking into getting a Runaway RangeRunner because I really like the bigger size. I'll definitely use you as a reference (once I'm able to afford one of these campers!)

      Thanks! It's really fine to use someone else as a referral if they pointed you to Runaway Campers first. We look forward to years of travel with our Navigator.

    Hi Charles! Appreciate all your Runaway videos! Are you still going to do a Primer 2.0? I'm curious about your change of mind from the folding mattress to the permanent bed. Thanks! Your Shelbyville almost neighbor.

    • @charlesmoman
      @charlesmoman  5 років тому +1

      Yes, I am working towards the Primer 2.0 - just been too busy with life and the recent videos I have been uploading. The Venturist intro video comes up later today. The bed is still the same folding one we started with. Thanks for watching! I hope to get the Primer 2.0 out next month. It will be more focused and shorter. I think I am getting better with each video or at least I try! Blessings!

    Lots of very good information. Going to have to check out the Runaway. I'm sure that I can get one insulated (or do it myself). Living in Vermont, it gets kind of cold, even in the summers sometimes. But, that looks to be about the perfect size, and with good options. Thanks for the vid!

    I pick up my Runaway in OK next week. I got the cubbies. Can you tell me the cubby interior measurement?

    • @charlesmoman
      @charlesmoman  5 років тому

      We actually took our cubbies out last year and built custom sized shelving. The cubbies are great, but we wanted certain size shelfs for things we always take with us. Call Runaway or the OK dealer and they can give you that info. Have a great time with it! We love ours. I am making a version 20 if this video next week. And I have uploaded many new ones the past few weeks. Thanks for stopping by and look for new ones.

    Great video. I referenced this before buying my own XL last month. There is one thing you didn't cover, and its a problem I'm addressing now. What kind of locks do you recommend to secure your Runaway?

    • @charlesmoman
      @charlesmoman  5 років тому

      William Lower That is a common question. Go to the Runaway Owners Facebook page and check threads there. Many options, but a serious crook if determined can disable most locks and chains. Look at my 2018 modifications video I filmed at the Rally and you will see one owner show his version of security that looks good to me. Some take a wheel off and put it in their vehicle leaving it. Some have a gps tracker. Of course, insure it so it is covered if stolen.

      Thanks Charles! I will do that.
