  • As a kayaking instructor I created this series of videos on knots to introduce members of our club Sligo Kayak Club (Sligo, Ireland), and any anyone else who may be interested, to rope work.
This video will show you how easy it is to get started learning knots, by demonstrating how you can go from the most basic overhand knot and progress through to some handy hitches and constrictor knots.
Knots covered in this video include:
    1. Overhand knot ( • Start learning knots w... )
    2. Half hitch ( • Start learning knots w... )
    3. Clove Hitch & clove hitch variant ( • Start learning knots w... )
    4. Constrictor knot and constrictor knot variant ( • Start learning knots w... )
I recommend using a kettle bell or similar as a training aid; any gauge of rope or cord will be sufficient for training purposes but it's best to use at least 2' (60cm) of length.
Feedback, comments, questions are all welcomed.
Please excuse the quality of this first, one-take, recording!
DISCLAIMER: The information in this video has been presented in good faith, for training purposes only. While much effort has been taken to ensure the accuracy of the information presented, no responsibility is accepted for incidents arising out of use or misuse of this information.
Activities requiring the use of ropes can be potentially hazardous and it is the user's responsibility to sufficiently educate themselves on safe rope practices. Please seek proper training before using any knots in real life settings.

A very clear tutorial. Your system of progression is an excellent way to reduce confusion and helped me to understand these various hitches for the first time. Thank you.

I’ve watched a lot of these type videos and have to say yours is the easiest to follow. One thing is the progression from a beginning knot and adding to that. Secondly, the white rope around a black bar offers great contrast and it’s easy to see what is happening.
