hey man, i really like your take on these games that is not so popular or not talk about more. your reviews are solid and informative sprinkled with humor that is enjoyable to watch. i played this as a kid, and even though the chracters weren't the best, i still kinda like them and seeing that ending for the first time where yuri realised that Alice is gone hits hard man. Great video btw man.

Glad to see you grow with these games because I really love the Shadow Hearts series. Never played Koudelka but I do find the story fascinating and you weren't wrong, the production values on the cutscenes were top-notch back then and they're still really good today.
@14:12 Dial in grenade delivery! The art style for the judgement ring reminds me of Vagrant Story. I wish more games used new or out of the regular mechanics.
Shadow Hearts is still one of my favorite games. Mr. British Warlock and Yuri are my flat out favorite anti-villain and anti-hero. The game also has a wonderful tone where the Yuri mocks and shrug off monsters and murderers, but is legitimately afraid of dealing with the lose of his family, Zhu Zhen can take on mad elemental gods but is wracked with terror at the idea of having to mercy kill someone close to him a second time, etc..
I loved the Shadow Hearts games on the PS2. I went out of my way to find the strategy guides so I wouldn't miss anything. I remember really liking the last game Shadow Hearts: From the New World.
While I like the idea of Alice's death being cannon what are your thoughts on characters with actual storylines having PERMA DEATH in games? Only short games or is long form fine too? I know Fire Emblem did this but for most players that just made Reload save and beat every battle with no casualties mandatory . . . . As someone who runs a lot of tabletop RPGs i would like if the video game form of roleplaying was more open personally.
I have been waiting weeks for this review I will admit, but if you didn't do it for a Tail Concerto review I wouldn't be complaining! I need more people to talk about Tail Concerto it's a cute and later very depressing series.
Best not to review Shadow Hearts 2 then Yuri:"The Giant pussy is going to try to eat us !!!" Yeah... that's actually a thing that had me rolling over the floor. Havig said that I absolutely LOVED the first 2 but hated what they did with the third.... Alice giving her life to save Yuri from his own Malice in part 1 then Karin finding Yuri again in 2; absolutely wracked by guilt over Alice's death only for her (Alice) to forgive Yuri and tell him to forgive himself (which he does) and Karin being left on the sideline, hopelessly in love.... hoping he would return... only for Yuri to understand to save the world from his Malice he would need to stay behind was an absolute perfect ending to the story... And then Shadow Hearts 3 turned Alice into some cloned genetical experiment.... that kinda ruined the triangle lovestory a bit for me....
I feel like the first battle theme has dug its claws into you, you've been microdosing werid shadow hearts music and I'm worried for your future. Shadow madness when.
Thanks for sharing. Shadow Hearts is one of my favorites back in the day. Too bad Final Fantasy X overshadowed it. Might have been way more popular if it hadn't released around the same time.

Little Tail Bronx is a criminally underrated series. More eyes could do with finding it especially since Fuga 2 is coming out soon.

Watching this again was neat since the final boss was fought on a giant judgement ring, that's good framing
