When you put the board on the machine, what is the plastic-like layer beneath the board?

This video makes me assume that all Byerly boards were made by hand in America by Scott Bouchard. I thought they were pressed and produced offshore though?

Old video. Butch makes a few boards at his shop for R & D, but yes the rest are made under the Hyperlite brand overseas.
