    Awesome info! I have 1 and it’s 3 yrs old. Has TONS of peaches from day 1! They just never get big. I feel so bad thinning it out, like I’m wasting them, but I tried this year. Probably still not enough. I’m in Phoenix AZ & it’s Aug & they’re still small. Seem to be ripening just not normal size. Also wondering about thinning branches in Spring. Mine is sooooo bushy, not like yours. Should I be pruning a lot of branches to thin it out? I can’t even see any branches cuz it’s so full. Very pretty and green. Looks healthy. Just haven’t gotten any edible size peaches. Thx so much! Jeannie

      Thanks so much! I use Dormant Horticultural Oil and Copper Fungicide mixed together and sprayed 2 times in the winter. First time after leaves drop in early winter, and second time in late winter before buds start popping.

    I have one for about 2 months now. A few leaves every day seem to be yellowing n drooping. Am I over or under watering maybe?

    • @PlantFanatics
      @PlantFanatics  3 роки тому

      It could be a myriad of reasons for yellowing leaves. If its pretty newly planted then you could be looking at transplant shock. Typically the tree will recover from this given enough time. The soil should be a well draining soil that was broken up with a shovel or pickaxe before placing the plant into the hole. If rain has been abundant in the spring then that water should be sufficient to allow root growth to occur. Make sure that you have a nice helping of mulch around the trees base to help with water retention. If the soil is a fertile well draining soil, the trees base is covered with mulch, you only water the tree when drought occurs for a week and a half or more, and the tree is in a full sun position, then you should be just fine and the tree just needs time to adjust to its new home. Thanks so much for the comment and support!

    Great video, thanks for the content. Do you know if the tree will need sprayed even if it stays potted in doors. What is your spray of choice?

    • @PlantFanatics
      @PlantFanatics  2 роки тому +2

      Peaches require a certain number of chill hours in order to flower and fruit the following season. For this reason I really don't recommend making this an indoor potted tree. If it gets too cold where you live for this tree perhaps you might consider moving the pot to an unheated garage or shed where the tree can receive just enough protection to keep it alive and healthy. With that being said, I only spray the tree if I see signs of fungal or pest pressure. Typically I do as this is extremely common amongst peaches. I spray the tree with a dormant horticultural oil in the winter, along with a copper fungicidal spray. Follow the directions on the back of the spray bottles and your tree will be happy and healthy. Thank you so much for the great questions. Happy growing!

    Thanks for the video. Can you recommend any organic sprays that are effective? Also, one tip fpr you -- it would help your channel if you create playlists (Growing Citrus, Growing Figs, Cold-hardy Fruits, Easiest Fruit Trees, Growing Fruits from Seed, Growing Plants from Cuttings, etc.) Playlists make it easier for viewers to find videos they're interested in, and also help raise your channel in search results, so creating playlists would definitely be worth the effort.

      I appreciate the information. We will definitely do that. As far as organic sprays go, I like to go with the mixture of a mixture of Dawn dish soap and Neem Oil. A few drops of Dawn is all that is needed for a spray bottle. Totally organic and really helps with the pests. Going with a copper fungicide and dormant horticultural oil during the winter is a much more effective spraying regiment for peaches though. I hope this helps you out. Thanks so much for taking the time to watch the video! Happy growing!

      @@PlantFanatics Thanks for the detailed reply. I don't have any fruit trees because they seem to require a lot of upkeep, but a dwarf tree might be manageable for me. I'm a huge fan of neem oil -- I use it to control leaf-eating insects in my vegetable garden.

    What can be done to protect it from frost? I just bought 2 trees, im in zone 6

    • @PlantFanatics
      @PlantFanatics  3 роки тому +4

      It really just depends on what temperature the frost is, and if the trees have started flowering or not. If the tree is in flower you are typically ok not covering at all down to 28 degrees fahrenheit. This will cause a natural thinning of the fruit by about 10%. Any frost while the tree is in flower of 23-25 degrees will cause roughly 90% fruit loss. The best Protection you could give is to cover the tree when the sun goes down the night of the hard frost. You can achieve this by using a sheet followed by a large tarp that reaches the ground. You can then weigh the tarp down with rocks or bricks at the base to keep it from flying off the tree. The heat rising from the ground is enough to help mitigate fruit loss. Never allow plastic to touch the leaves or flowers when a frost happens, as this will actually heighten frost burn. This is why I recommend a sheet followed by a tarp. You will then want to remove this covering when the temperature rises above freezing. Thanks so much for the question, and please let me know any further questions you may have.

    What do you spray it with?

    • @PlantFanatics
      @PlantFanatics  3 роки тому +3

      I use a horticultural oil in the winter and during the growing season. A horticultural oil that can be used both when the tree is dormant and during the growing season will be specified on the bottle. If in the year past I saw the sap I spoke about coming from the branch tips and trunk, I spray the tree with horticultural oil and I paint the trunk with IV Organics 3 in 1 paint guard. This is simply a horticultural tree paint that detracts bugs from boring into the trunks of trees. During the growing season I never spray the trees while in flower, as this will poison the pollinators that are necessary for fruit set. After every flower has spent on the tree I then spray with this oil immediately. After this it is best to keep a close eye on the fruit and leaves of the tree, and only treat as is necessary. I've found that I usually do have to spray 1 or 2 more times throughout the season. If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks so much for the comment and support!!

      @@TheDannytre I think those should work just fine! Your trees should have plenty of space to be happy and healthy in those. Just make sure to add plenty of organic matter to the soil every year during the growing season for a healthy plant that produces tons of fruit! Thanks for the awesome comment!
