"loose skeleton to keep track of" is Todd asking if a dynamic/living outline, whatever that looks like, is s good tool for running a campaign. On first listen, i thought "loose skeleton to keep track of" WAS his campaign pitch and i was intrigued!
Yeah I think that’s illegal for another company to release their stuff early. Maybe they got permission. I know WOTC is releasing it early for subscribers. Master tier on the 29th of October and November 5th for hero tier.
The best thing I ever did was make a festival for my group. I made a summer equinox festival and made some games of chances and low end magic items for the players to win, it's still the most talked about session I ran and I'm excited to run another one in the future!
Same. Seeing how he customized a campaign he pre-wrote is essential for new DMs to understand when and why to change things to fit your own campaign.@@CyanMentality
Best thing for note taking and organization as a dm is loose leaf paper in a 3-ring binder. You can add or subtract from anywhere to keep things organized and easy to find. Us Trapper Keeper kids from the 80's learned this a long time ago. 😀
This is the way I started but I have recent switched to almost all electronic notes. That way when my players destroy the NPC that means them no harm and is absolutely innocent causing the last three months of planning to be useless there is no paper to tear up and the players never know of all the files I just deleted.
I'm still confused by the "no other DMG has had a campaign setting." Nentir Vale doesn't count? It's a small area, but you can run a whole campaign there pretty easily and there's a zillion adventures for it.
For the Player Motivations I'd strongly recommend to use it as an ordered list of what the player cares most about. That way you don't get those useless 'everything or nothing is important' situation.
My friend had his game notebook, on the front and back cover he wrote down funny quotes during the game. I have not talked to him in a long while but he still has it from what I was told.
Once, long ago under the days of 2nd edition I was inspired by the holodeck of Star Trek. I had the players roll up new characters mid campaign and they played them in a seemingly unrelated adventure, only for it to end with a BANG! as the local tavern keeper slammed his book shut, and the characters found themselves in their local inn at a table covered in maps, dice and little lead figures, and the tavern keeper said "So, what do you think of my new game? I'm thinking of calling it Dungeons & Dragons!" After a moments swearing and cursing, my players loved it!
It's corporate shenanigans to make things look good for the shareholders. It happens in other large US corporations in the US. Not so much outside the US. The US worships at the feet of capitalism.
For me as a DM the hardest thing to do is keeping track of hit points of monsters & NPCs during combat especially when there a lot of enemies the group is fighting.
I purchased the Digital & Physical Core Rulebooks bundle back in June and have still not received my physical Players Handbook. I messaged customer support 4 weeks ago and have not received a reply back.
I have enjoyed these videos so far but Todd isnt very good at interviewing. The people he interviews do all the work of pushing the new books and he just sits there and talks about what he does in his home games. He should be asking the questions the community cares about.
Look at Ginny Di's review of the DMG. Some of the tracking sheets are useful for new DMs, some are merely prompts that could be replaced by an empty sheet. Sounds like a good idea in general though.
It uses the latin pronunciation. Latin has long been associated with magic since it's a dead language, with Harry Potter even straight up using latin for spells.

Nice to know in advance that the new DM's Guide will include all of this good advice and sets of helpful tools
The D&D lore contribution of Dice, Camera, Action (24:10) : “Crying is a free action”.
Kinda sad that's all they're remembered for. That was an enjoyable show until it fell apart.
@@mattbriddell9246 There are shows that don’t even get that.
I preordered my 2024 DMG at Zulu's Board Game Cafe in Bothell, WA this week and it will be here on Tuesday ...woop woop!
Huh, I ordered mine from my LGS here in Portland and its not coming until Nov. 12...
Shoutout to Zulus!!!
The 2024 DMG won’t be released until Nov. 12. How will you get it before it comes out??

Literally no one cares

not to be That Guy but do you mean summer solstice? equinox comes in spring and autumn.
that does sound like a fun session though.
Man, I miss Chris DM'ing an online show. DCA was great!
Straight up. Really helped me appreciate how a lead designer adapts their adventure on the fly.

please bring it back!!!

What is paper?

Trapper keeper life 🤘

4:39 Chris quietly changed his shirt during that art transition...oh hey James, didn't see you there lol
...mark?
Wouldn’t have noticed that unless you mentioned it, and now I feel flabbergasted, thanks.
@@UriahNeveah Think of it as a metaphor for the OGL. The pushback happened at 6:44 haha
What’s up with the layoffs in the last few days involving people that were a part of this ?
Typical Q4 corporate bs, followed by the inevitable Q1 PR disaster that WOTC has become known for the last few years.
It's corporate shenanigans to make things look good for the shareholders. It happens in other large US corporations in the US.
Not so much outside the US. The US worships at the feet of capitalism.
Unlikely WotC has any say in it. The Hasbro corporate machine goes brrrrrrrrrr. Shareholders come first!

Best thing is to have scratch paper and add up the damage, rather than subtract down.
@@GeekMasterGames oh that's so smart!
Adding up instead of subtracting is one of my fav DM hacks.
HP subtraction has THAC0 vibes.
I just use custom code, for example you can do basic mathematics and function creation use R Studio.
How do I do that with pen and paper? 😂😂
Hopefully WotC will release the Greyhawk campaign and mini-adventures from the DMG as a separate product.

DCA reference
I had to take over a drow campaign because the original DM was flaky, but the players were enjoying playing drow.
When is the boxed set of core rulebooks coming out? That's when I'll buy them.
Maybe this time next year?
I got one that's upside down and backwards
Fix dnd beyond so we can we see what we bought from 2014

Cool but isn’t this chapter mostly stuff recycled from the old DMG? Tbf, more DMs need to read it, but still
It's just reorganized but with a few new things and now filled with cartoonish artwork that no longer inspires me and instead negatively distracts me.
that's why it's DMG 2024 and not DMG 5.5e or 6e
Yes, but as a whole the book looks to be a lot more accessible.
Todd, Todd, Todd, never gatekeep with skill checks.
Oh! So it's pronounced sah-HOO-again? Lol
Tracking sheets sound very much like them filling space. Other than that sounds good.
The book is 64 pages longer than the 2014 dmg so it's filling space that wasn't there before.
Look at Ginny Di's review of the DMG. Some of the tracking sheets are useful for new DMs, some are merely prompts that could be replaced by an empty sheet. Sounds like a good idea in general though.
Yeah but we are still waiting to have products fulfilled and issues resolved from the PHB over a month ago.
Pointless video
I really don't understand the insistence on calling it "siggle."
Because it's a proper noun and they called it that.
What is there to understand or not? That's just how it's pronounced.
It uses the latin pronunciation. Latin has long been associated with magic since it's a dead language, with Harry Potter even straight up using latin for spells.
Because that’s it’s name.
They named it. That's the name.
