What is the paid software do differently from iTunes? I restored the phone, while setting it up the screen worked, then it download backup from iCloud and the next morning was again irresponsive. Working intermittently

Just keep on holding the power button. Don't let go until recovery mode appears. I made the same mistake for days now because I release the power button too soon.
