  • Clinical psychologist Jordan B. Peterson joins Piers Morgan Uncensored to tell the story of his visit to Britain's 'strictest headteacher' Katharine Birbalsingh's school, which resulted in complaints to the police.
Jordan first describes the school's environment when visiting and suggests he has never seen a more efficient way of learning, describing the way pupils closely followed the teachers who were teaching information at high speeds. He goes on to say that the people who describe Katharine as a 'dragon lady' are sorely mistaken.
Jordan then describes the incident that led to police being called on Katharine for allowing him to visit the school and he said it is solely down to "resentful narcissists".

Even adults need boundaries, though they don't like admitting it for fear it makes them appear childish or immature. Security is a human psychological need and you're right that children absolutely need it. It's the next most important need to fill after food, shelter and water.

I think that it’s better to put it the other way around: children need to be told when they are doing the _right_ thing and encouraged to continue in that way. Too many schools (and parents) don’t really pay attention to children until they cross a line, and then it’s only negative attention; but if that’s the only way to get attention, they will constantly cross that line

Yes! I heard of a study done by a school that was considering whether they should spend the money to fence in the playground (this was a long time ago). They found that at school playgrounds without fences, the kids tended to huddle close to the building and only use a fraction of the grounds available to them. But kids at school playgrounds with fences tended to use the entire play area. What a concept! This is what we have forgotten about rules and boundaries. That's what they are for, to free people to maximally function within the spaces available to them. This flies in the face of the modern notion of freedom which is the ability to do whatever one wants. That's not freedom. That's chaos. And it's often enslavement to one's own urges, cravings, and whims with nothing at which to aim them. It's like flailing about in an open ocean with no boat, no compass or navigational instrument, and expecting to arive somewhere.

I believe that there are probably no absolutely right or wrong ways to think about this - because absolutes suck, and always fail at edge cases. It is annoying that the debate only ever shows one side pitted against another. And both sides come with their own baggage of questionable arguments. I can like one side or the other only on balance, but neither of them in total.
I admit that I didn't like Trump. But I like the Democrats even less. Trump was objectionable to me, but more right on some issues than wrong.
I feel that there should be something to assist those who are the target of hate, but I am at a loss to say what that assistance looks like. So, like JP, I can say that I think something is wrong, but I can't pin down what the solution is.

With no previous knowledge, I just watched "the video that made him famous" q.v. This great Headmistress is a visionary; I attended a convent prep./grammar school where such rules, manners and regulations were the norm. We stood, sat and walked in lines; everything was memorised, tested. Uniforms were indeed uniform even outside school. Everything was changing by 1960s/70s with theft and bullying affecting my children, teachers often scruffy, lazy and badly spoken, even swearing at pupils. Society begins with education.

I found with my children’s secondary school that the teachers weren’t invested in the pupils. So how can they expect the children to be invested in their lessons and the school as a community? This system just can’t continue anymore, especially when there are better educational models we could adopt.

‘Hate,’ as a category of crime, has got to be eliminated in British jurisprudence.
The fact that hate (which is something that cannot be proven) is designated a specific category of crime and is actionable by law, should be a cause for embarrassment to anyone engaged in the legal profession, as well a national embarrassment to all citizens of GB.
