I think dq11 would be a good comparison to Zelda OOT and Zelda MM. because in zelda, you travel back to the past after defeating ganondorf to defeat a completely different villain which is skull kid. Sounds familiar right? It’s just like dq11 where Hero travels to the past after defeating mordegon to defeat a completely different villain which is calasmos.
Calasmos may have gotten more development, but I feel Zoma had a much bigger impact. You were on a quest to defeat Baramos, which your father, Ortega, had failed to do and you do. So you return to the King of Aliahan to give him the good news and come to find out that NOPE!, Baramos was just a lackey of a greater evil and you have to go to an entirely different world to defeat that evil. But you don't just go fight that evil entity, you have to travel around that world to get powerful magic items you need to defeat it else you don't have a chance. Mordegon had nothing to do with Calasmos and indeed, Calasmos saw Mordegon as an obstacle, contrasting Baramos working for Zoma.
