Smørrebrød translates directly into “Buttered bread”. And when eating it, there’s a traditional order in which to eat: *Fish* Herring (in all variants), fish cake, mackerel, cod, prawn/egg *Assorted meats* Roastbeef, paté, various sausages a.o. *Cheese* All types. Usually on white bread or crackers. *Drink:* Snaps (akvavit “water of life”) especially for the fish. Can be enjoyed throughout the meal, and is supported by cold beer.
Smørre translate directly into smear.. So a direct translation of smørrebrød would be smear bread. The Danish word for butter is smør because it is smeared on bread. And smørrebrød is always smeared with butter so the *best* translation is probably buttered bread how it is not a direct translation. I can confirm the order is correct! However I'd like to add that the most popular type of smørrebrød is indisputably egg and shrimp!
Everything just cost a bit more in Copenhagen, especially food and eating out. If you had the same food and drink in jutland, maybe Århus, you could easily knock maybe 20% off the price in most Places 🙂 and the turks that came in the 60's and 70's, were not refugees, they were guestworkers. Denmark needed workers and invited Them here 🙂 red sausage is mainly boiled for hotdogs, so the texture is more "wet" 🙂
Thank you 😊 The red sausage did make us wonder about it's texture, only because we've never experienced a hot dog quite like that before 😅 lovely non the less 😋
@@andrew_patrycja the hotdog vendor probably wondered why you got the red one, since it mostly kids that eat that one, adults tend to go for the fried versions 😊
i couldnt quite figure out where you had the kebab. And seing so little of the surrroundings i couldnt figure out wherre in copenhagen that is aand potentielly use my sherlock holmes skills to find the place ;-)
Hey @Noblemand 👋 Just seen this and huge props on you for trying 👍 Don't blame your Sherlock Holmes skills, it was a secret that no one would have ever guessed right 🧐 *Spoilers... Where you seen us eating our Kebab was not in the actual kebab takeaway store 😱 Instead we took it back to our lovely capsule hotel and enjoyed it in the lobby - where everyone was jealous 😉 I cannot remember the reasons why but the actual kebab store was closing super early and we wanted to avoid the loud noises from the street plus the cold temperatures 🥶 Here's a link to our video we did on that amazing accommodation we stayed at where you will see the same location: ua-cam.com/video/hWCEZUC7Eu0/v-deo.html
We were so excited to try the original Gasoline Grill! 😊 Although the airport version sounds amazing too! We didn’t realize how popular the brand was until we spotted one in Tivoli Gardens as well. Sorry for the late reply, and thanks for watching! 👍
Hi there! Not currently, but we will keep you posted in-case anything changes in the future 😊 We will have more food/street food vlogs coming soon, as we are currently preparing to leave for the Asia 😉
I never liked red sausages... I think they only children ever eat them and they primarily like it because of the colour.. At least that's my impression... You definitely got the wrong one xD You should've just asked to for the sausage man's suggestion. He'd have hooked you up! They're used to tourists coming to taste their craft.
I actually liked it,! But, Patrycja on the other hand rather disliked it and did replace it later on with a proper one (off camera 😉) Your more than likely correct, because I'm pretty sure Patrycja chosen that one as it looked more unique and stood out from the rest 😅 Next time I definitely will ask the man for his best recommendation 😁 Thanks for watching the video, we appreciate it 👍
@@andrew_patrycja If you ever come back I also recommend trying just getting a sausage with condiments it's very popular among Danes and then you can taste it with just remoulade(mustard mayo)! While it's technically a french invention Danes have taken it to a whole 'nother level and danish remoulade is nothing like french remoulade. Also it's the most popular condiment in Denmark! Thanks for providing the video, we appreciate it 👍
Why do Travelers to Denmark mostly go for the Red Boiled Hotdog, instead of the Roasted (brown one), that most locals prefer....?? A real Danish Hotdog is roasted and brown 🤣🤣🤣🤣 ! Same toppings.
Good point! 🤣 Honestly, I'm not sure why we went for the red one - most hot dogs where we're from are the brown ones. Probably something different called out to us 😅 Next time, we’re going straight for the real Danish experience! 🌭 Thanks for watching and the heads-up!
Love the fact that EVERY " vlogger" that makes a " lets taste Danish food" video all go to the SAME places where NO danish person would ever go!)) have you seen the prices ?? do you think we are born with millions in our accounts??
Thanks for the comment! 😊 You're completely right - those touristy spots can get pretty pricey! Coming from the UK where a weekend by the seaside can cost as much as a week abroad, we totally understand. If you told me you had millions, I’d assume you were Norwegian 😄 But seriously, all jokes aside, we’ll be sure to keep an eye out for more local favorites next time. Finding the right balance in a short space of time can be a challenge, but our hope is to showcase the beauty of your country/city to a wider audience, not for them to copy exactly what we’ve done, but to encourage them to see something new and fall in love with it. If you're a Brit like me, that usually means escaping two weeks in Spain - no hate on Spain, but I’m all for cooler countries! 😉 Appreciate you watching and sharing your thoughts! 👍
The kebab place looked rather fancy, I think for a proper kebab there are other places, more street like 😆 But it is amazing how many things you tried, loved it!
Hey @fannyesquivel2875 👋 Thanks for watching, we're super happy you enjoyed it 😉 We need to be honest 😅 there is fancy Kebab places around Copenhagen but, the one we went to was a very small friendly (& family-run) place like 10 minutes walk from our Hub Hotel. When we was done chatting with the owner and had our food we never realised they we're closing super early in the morning 🤷♂️ Due to the loud street noise/cold temps, we taken our kebabs back to eat in the lobby of our Hub Hotel, hence the "fancy" - Trust us, everyone in the hotel was jealous 😂 If you fancy taking a look at the Hub Hotel - for couples. We'll leave our link here: ua-cam.com/video/hWCEZUC7Eu0/v-deo.html Be sure to "stay tuned" 🔔 as we have a part Serbian food vlog coming up next (disrupted by bad weather 😅), a full Istanbul Turkish Food Vlog and an evening trying food in Singapore/Kuala Lumpur 😋 We're also about to be on the road again shortly to a few destinations Japan, SK, Vietnam & Thailand 🤞 We "fully" intend to do a food vlog for all these locations 😊 Stay safe ✌️
Hos Bilal (At Bilal) in Aarhus centre, is one of the best kebabs ive ever had. Baking the durum bread up front, and got way better options of chili, hummus, garlic oil and sauce than most shops of Copenhagen. Even their meat is way more delicious and probably homemade. Greetings from a Copenhagen guy.
136 for Two pieces of smørrebrød I would feel so violated !!!! As a Dane I don’t get why tourist keep coming to this overpriced and overrated tourist trap 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
Hi Cliff 🤗 We agree that it was expensive but in all honesty, the smørrebrød was far better than anything else we tried that day. We come from an extremely touristy part of the UK and know too well how regular tourists will just end up increasing the prices, up to 400% more than usual 😨 Speaking for ourselves, we've learnt when travelling we expect to pay a bit more money and know that we won't regret our choice later on especially when trying new dishes for a first time 😉 We were recently in Helsinki and tried some salmon soup for the first time, we followed the crowd to a busy corner place which was cheaper than the competitors (still expensive) but immediately regretted it! The flavour and quality tasted like it was bought from a cheap supermarket and just zapped in a microwave, when leaving the place we realised for just a few euros more, next door had a much better salmon soup. As a tourist we bite the bullet so we won't be dissatisfied with the quality, we hopped you enjoyed the rest of the video ✌️
Oops, looks like we missed the mark there! 😅 Thanks for the tip - we’ll definitely go for the grilled sausage next time. Appreciate you looking out for us! 🌭😊
As a dane watching I love the reviews of the foods and they truly live up to their hype! :)
