This unique event is made possible by funding from the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, as part of #LondonTogether. The event is in support of the Royal Albert Hall’s fundraising appeal and SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity’s Emergency Response Fund.
For the first time in its 150-year history, the world-famous Royal Albert Hall plays host to a very special concert behind closed doors. The concert gives the nation a moment to pay tribute to the fallen men and women of the Second World War and salute the country’s VE Day Veterans, many of whom are experiencing uncertainty and isolation. It is also our opportunity to thank the Armed Forces who, alongside the NHS and many others, are coming together to serve the country.

During Operation Torch in WWII, my uncle served with the US 5th Army, fought alongside courageous Brits in North Africa. It was there he first heard the melancholy music of Vera Lynn. He remembers her songs resonating with the soldiers, sailors, airmen and nurses going off to war, those praying for them on the home front, and to those all over the world who experienced the the loss and devastation of the war years.
Here in America we remain eternally grateful for their courage and for their sacrifice. Thank you.
Thank you so much Katherine and my hero dame Vera. Cried all the way through, for my daughter and granddaughter who I haven't seen since 19th march. For my daughter working as a nurse right now on her ward, for my mum a land girl who died last year, for every person who lived through the war and for the world now and everyone in it. God bless everyone. We'll meet again x
liz Davies Bless you. My mum was a land girl too. That was in New Zealand and she was working with horses (of which she was terrified) and my grandfather (who could also be rather terrifying). Nowadays during the Covid-19 lock down we would call them "essential ii Al services". Well we do in New Zealand. And we honour their bravery and courage in what my cousin,a nurse calls World War III.
ETERNAL GLORY TO THE RUSSIAN HEROES!
SUPERΔRTIFICIΔL okay ?
liz Davies Bless you Liz what an emotional experience all the more poignant in these days

Thanks from America. The British have been an inspiration, when it comes to enduring difficulties. Soldier on....
Stiff upper lip sir.
the 36,000 US troops who left my home town will never be forgotten
Lovely performance. My father who passed away just over 2 months ago would have loved this. As he was declining in health he was comforted by the music of the WWII era, especially the songs sung by Vera Lynn. Made me cry to listen and think of him. My heart goes out to all who are grieving with loss, no matter where or when.
Never listened to Katherine Jenkins before. What a beautiful lady with an incredible voice! My Mum and Dad met in the Air force during the War where my Dad was an RAF pilot and navigator. They would have loved this concert.
Oh Katherine, what bravery to sing to an empty auditorium and how stunning is your music. We are watching from South Africa. With love Chris and Lorna Everett
The duet of Katherine and Vera singing We'll Meet again was so so beautiful it moved me to tears!
Magnificent Katherine is a gift to all the world..a gift from Wales.
Katherine Jenkins is gifted and one of my all-time favourites. Enjoyed that performance. How my parent's wud have loved to hear her sing. Thanks from India.
Beautiful lady, beautiful music, beautiful tribute to those who lived through and fought in the War in Europe
We lived in London from 2004 until 2015, and I miss my favorite city in the world. Albert Hall a very special place. We will all come through this pandemic stronger than ever - hang in there everybody! ❤️ from Tucson, AZ
Thank you for your kind comment from a British fan of Tucson. Another beautiful city. Stay safe and well.
There was no applauses there, but we send you the strongest applause from here! With our hearts! Great concert!! Bravooooooo!!!
There is a need to somehow clap to show just how much we appreciate the signing of Katherine Jenkins and the work put in by many to create this production. A like does not do it justice.
I know, you keep waiting for and expecting audience applause. And to think this could last for another year.
Roger Thomas I sort of know what you mean Roger. For me applause after a soulful experience like this is quite an ugly sound. My guess is those of us writing here are trying to express exactly what you said"A like does not do it justice"
You so correct Roger. At least for now we can comment and they can have a more personal feeling of appreciation with comments we gave them. This was outstanding and feel so privileged to also join in from miles away. God Bless and stay safe 🌷🌷🌷
listening from the states to a wonderful lady in a great country. Thank you
Watching from Canada. A beautiful voice and beautiful songs.
A wonderful tribute to all of the men and women that made this country great, thank you Katherine.
Thanks Katherine for your commitment, compassion and consistency.
If the London mayor intro was deleted they could have been squeezed in one more song which would have been preferable
I watched this live 6 hours ago, and I've watched it again 3 or 4 times already. It brings tears to my eyes every time! There is such passion in her voice.
Great gesture by a magnificent star to show her sincerity in this unprecedented crisis.Albert Hall with Katherine and a full audience was very different when I saw her there in December 2019 but her voice is always as good wherever she performs.
Best wishes to Katherine and her family and all involved in this performance to brighten our days.
Richard
Ms Jenkins can fill the hall by herself. Old Dad loved her music - He didn't fight any wars but served between them. Wish he'd lived to see this performance but glad he didn't live to see this year.
Beautiful as always. Loved the song choices, they were all so perfect. Jealous of the Angels holds a special place in my heart thanks to Jenn Bostic (original composer/artist) so it was a wonder to hear it. Thank you RAH for putting this on and thanks to Katherine and the fabulous instrumentalists.
Beautiful. We were welling up with tears. Somewhere over the Rainbow. Jealous of the Angels. White Cliffs of Dover. We'll meet again. Jerusalem. A great mix of nostalgia, wartime memories and patriotism. A fitting tribute and what we need right now
ETERNAL GLORY TO THE RUSSIAN HEROES!
the lyrics of the first line of 'we'll meet again' are grammatically slovenly & incorrect;
''we'll meet agen, don't know where, don't know when'', should read ''we'll meet again, don't know where, don't know when'', or could be rewritten, ''we'll meet again, when the joy follows pain,''
Thank you so much for live-streaming this special concert that I was able to sing along with my friends in UK from Tokyo thinking of the day we will meet again in London, especially at Royal Albert Hall. I am sure so many people around the world are most grateful for this special concert that lifted our hearts during hardships of pandemic and we hope Royal Albert Hall will keep live-streaming concert for subscribers after pandemic is over as that’ll be our dream come true.
Wonderful to see the inside and outside photos of the Royal Albert Hall in London. Only ever been in London once staying on my girlfriend's lounge floor My dad was born in Wimbledon. ☮️💜From🇳🇿🎶🙏
Greetings from Dublin. Hopefully, the day will come when we can finally defeat this insidious virus and not let it bring down civilization. Happy VE Day !
We can do it but ONLY if it is a "world war". To leave it untouched anywhere gives it a chance to "regroup" and attack us again. We not only have to endure more lockdowns and use social distancing and, one day, have a vaccine but we can't stop there. Places like Africa have to be included in our fight back. Or else.
Catherine you are a blessing .Your singing brings us all so much encouragement to keep going on .God
bless and we love you The Wilson familyl
Enjoying from my little corner of the world - Trinidad and Tobago ... my husband would have loved this if he were still alive ... alas
Beautiful
Mine also, lost him this year in my corner of U.K. We both have memories. x
Thoughts to you. x

Katryn De Lange 🙏🙏🙏💜💜💜😢😢😢I hope I am not breaching protocol with my colour of heart(red blood and blue blood mixed). Wonderful to connect with each other in this way
@@marilynwoolford-chandler1161 absolutely. Though we're miles apart, technology allows us to bring the world closer and make new friends along the way. I've made good friends all over the world this way and love chatting to them all. We're keeping each other standing and love goes a long way. Enjoy your day 🌷🌷🌷
A most moving performance, sincere thanks to everyone involved.
Thank you. I had 1 uncle in WWI and 2 uncles and my mother serve during WWII. Memories of them mixed with the realization of what America has become under the current despot go through my mind while listening and crying. God bless the world and pray for us here stateside, to reject what our greatest generation warned us was the only thing that could take us down- propaganda. Here's to all the brave soldiers and leaders of the UK now and in times past. 💖

"It's not the end, but the beginning of the end" The Fascist Winston Churchill. He also said that the war was not against Hitler or National; Socialism, but against the strength of the German people, which must be smashed once and for all. He knew that the war against Fascism was lost, he knew that the entire Nazi management moved to their new H.Q. in Washington. My father volunteered to close the back door at Alexandria, in 1939, he lost his young brother to U666, when HMS Itchen was torpedoed with 400 Canadian survivors of the St. Croix on board, there were two survivors. What was all this sacrifice for, *NOTHING* . The fightback against these same people, has begun,

So Beautiful, what a Wonderful Tribute..

❤️🤗❤️🤗❤️
"A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square" is such a great song. No rhyming lyrics, just a lovely story told straight through. If you have ever had a moment with someone as described in this song, you will know this is exactly how it feels.
Have to disagree on no rhyming lyrics. There are several (although not many).
such a beautiful voice full of emotions, thank you

Lovely songs, lovely rendition, lovely commemoration of Vera Lynn...
A lovely concert ruined by bloody UA-cam and its incessant adverts. .
It's the advertisements that pay for the administration of the servers that host the content you love viewing.
@@larryhamsing4140 your a wacko mate I’m paying for You Tube and still getting the bloody adds no matter how I try to contact them to no avail,,,,🤬🤬🤬🤬
,Lovely ..... I cried when Katherine sang " Jealous of the angels" .... I haven't lost anyone to Covid19 but do I cry for all of you that have and I cry for every front line carer that has witnessed their fear and your sadness at not being able to be there for them . !! But In your place , these wonderful people have been there, at your loved ones end ....Truly heroic , emotional ,heart rending and impossible to say thank you enough .!! The picture of the nurse from Nottingham , so symbolic of the toll that this is taking on them all , these brave ,selfless angels of our NHS and emergency services . Thank you too , the working essential services that keep us all fed etc and the community volunteers . ❤️❤️❤️U👏👏👏
