We were pouring concrete where the cows normally exit our parlour so we had to re-route them. took an extra person to milk just to get them to move out of the door and to keep them from walking back towards the parlour to smell things
Ditto! Dad had to keep us kids busy so we pitched it into the spreader with silage forks and scoop shovels. He tried out a bobcat for 2 weeks and decided that was too easy as well as too $$$ for our operation.
The bucket on the Manitou is impressive! It wasn't until you had them facing each other that I realized how large it is compared to the bucket on the JCB. And when you said God is good, I answered...All the time! And all the time, God is good! Thanks for sharing!
Eric i am sure you realize those milk ladies are the real stars of your channel!! They are smarter than people realize. Y'all take such good care of them - they lead very good lives. I am so glad to see your channel is doing well. Farmers IMO are the top of our economic engine. Thank God for all of you.
Hey Eric, lovely to see you're enjoying the Manitou! I've helped on a goat dairy farm quite some summers and they have been using a Manitou since ages. I always enjoyed driving it a lot! When we were cleaning out the stalls we'd do it in 2 goes/pushes. 1st push you scoop and when you feel the machine no longer advances, you turn/unload the bucket onto the 'unscooped' manure. Thus creating a little pile. Then you reverse a little bit, and drive forward into the piled up manure again, scooping new manure and the piled up. That way you get 1 full scoop. Because as you must have noticed yourself, the wheels start spinning without your bucket being full. Might want to give that a try :-) And the red 'bar'/thingy on the bucket is indeed your bucket floor level :-) ENJOY!!!
"Don't demo a machine you can't afford" Another classic case of lifestyle creep. Now you gotta find room in your finances to afford it because how can you go back?
I really enjoy how you take the time to explain/narrate what you’re doing. As someone who grew up in the city, farm life fascinates me. I’ve always wanted to learn what’s it’s like to be on a farm and you do a great job taking your audience around while you do your tasks. Thank you! Keep up the great work, bud. :)
6:23-yes He is!!! Don’t feel too bad about the bucket angle discovery. The important thing is that you never quit learning and discovering new things on this journey called life! Loved the vid Eric. Keep em coming!
Telehandlers are great, lots of uses for them. But with the kind of farming you do, I don't think anything can beat a skid steer. Whipping a 360 on a dime, the small size, everything favors a skid.
Good evening, good work for you and all the farm workers. I love this job raising sheep, cows and pets. Thank you for these beautiful videos that we watch
Yeah, I bet they've never said, "Ok, everything is done, let's take the day off". lol I know one thing, I sure would have been extremely pleased to have had a son like him. Don't have to worry about him "Gittin'er done"
Tip from a loading shovel operator, put you bucket down to where u think u set it right, jump out of cab and see where it actually is, if its not set right then set it to where you like it, then once u find the point where u like it then memorize the tilt of it, you will naturally go back to it :D, u can drive in with them telehandlers instead of booming as u will damage the boom over time, you are meant to keep it tucked in, but if u are coming to a tight part where u lacking view/clearance, then boom out a foot or 2 then drive in gives u more of a better view of where ur wheels are etc :), and be careful in all steer drive near walls and doors as people forget and clip the wheel on the wall or door with the rear wheel when they going in for that close scoop etc :).
you dont have to put it in neutral to rev the engine up! just stand on the brake, and it works as an inching pedal, so no movemnt on the wheels, only revs it up :)
@@Michael-8903 pretty sure it works with other manufacturers as well, most of them have a combined braking and inching pedal, some have a designated inching pedal
Great video Eric. Glad you ended up with both telehandlers at the same time. Makes direct comparisons easier. Maybe a rotating telehandler would work better in the tight spaces. Enjoyed the video. Well done!
Hi Eric! I noticed that you used the mirrors on the Manitou to back it out of the storage area. I cut my teeth on that type of backing up, no reverse camera, just your instinct and good old fashion knowledge of your equipment, good job. It was so funny when the heifer licked the camera lens, I got a loud laugh out of that one, your reaction was priceless. Thanks for sharing, have a great week, stay safe.
Thank you so much for working so hard to provide our food! You work with dangerous equipment. I have so much respect for farmers/ranchers all over our great country! Be safe! :)
😂 every time the cows mess with the camera or look at it in the vids I laugh. Curious boogers aren’t they 😜 They notice when things are different or out of place.
After working construction I’m surprised not more farmers are using tele handlers. I finished growing up on a ranch. I then moved close to my brothers ranch helping him on weekends and days off.
Eric, the Manitou is swaying me over the JCB. I love the cab design on the Manitou, it reminds me of the taxi's in the UK, and it just seems more nimble and probably fun to operate. I'm looking forward to your breakdown video on the machines.
@Mama CWith your admission, I will now claim retirement as my excuse for not doing all day long like I used to. And I thoroughly enjoy watching them go about their daily live knowing that someday, they too will be retired and do as much or as little as they want.
As Steve Noel said, can see your lean. I think it is a bit smaller than JCB and in your tight spaces that is about the max size you could probably go. I would worry about barn damage if you go any larger, that is why skid-steers are great, but these telehandlers have many more uses around the farm especially with the boom. Great to be able to demo both, the JCB is still a great product, just maybe not in your operation.
Great video as usual Eric. I have owned and operated both machines and their upgrades over the years (25yrs) and have found both done the job very well. On the whole I found the Manitou was more expensive both from a capital and maintenance aspect and the JCB was easier to maintain. Unfortunately both will empty your pockets to purchase, but are great to have.
great video as always Eric watching your vids lately I've noticed you lean more towards the new Manitou more then the JCB machine , ill guess if you buy a new machine it will be the Mantou ? keep up the nice work be safe .
It appears. you prefer the manitou over the JCB... either way, they are larger than the skid steer but capacity is more in their bucket... everything has its place... if it works for you... enjoy and thank you for sharing your days with us... it is a blessing. Take care and be safe with them units... there is alot of weight out there that you can hit something with... all the best.
Great awesome video Eric. Like both telahandlers going , yes cows are very curious. If something is going on in there environment they want to check it out
Great job by you and your dad... You've done more by 6AM than the Union guys at my shop do in 2 days... It was also done safely,, Keep it up, spring is coming soon..
When you have ran the telehandler for long enough time, you wont say its too much fun. I don't remember back when we had a skidsteer, but i'd imagine that driving one of those would be much fun.
There's nothing like the dawn of a new day to make a person stop and take stock of all the good things that God has provided for us here on Earth. And yes, God is good! Have you taken the time to see what the difference in turning radius is between the Manitou and the JCB telehandler yet Eric? The larger bucket would make a big difference, but I'm sure JCB makes the same size bucket for their machines as Manitou does, but if you can maneuver one into tight spots better than the other, the one with the tighter turning radius wins in the long run. I bet the tires last a lot longer on a telehandler than a skid steer too. Not as much spinning on slicked up concrete because of the rear axle helping steer. BTW, I cracked up when that heifer started licking your GoPro like a three year old licking a lolly pop! You're going to have to take a survey down at the new heifer barn, how many licks does it take to get to the center of a GoPro Hero 10!
Just think how many generations back you might go where they did all of the scraping, moving and spreading by hand. What a beautiful sunrise. God is smiling upon you. I can imagine that you will really miss the new toys that you got to try out. Hope someday you have the means to buy the one you like best. Great video as always. Thanks Eric, till the next one.
Hey Eric i went for a walk this morning thru IUP Campus and i seen a guy running a JCB with a forlift attachment and i automatically thought of you for some reason.....keep up the good work my friend i love your videos dude
I'm enjoying your videos and the content keep up the good work. Nice to see that you and your Dad can work as a team. Doesn't always work that way unfortunately.
I was thinking about your tilling video today at work when we had a customer bring a skid steer in with a harley rake attachment. That might be a better option for what you are trying to do since it has side wings to draw material in. It also will dig down as deep as you want to go.
did you try the rotary thing done at the heifer shed like you did in the dry cow area? and all those little problems comes with time and practice!!!! but the speed and holding of material in the bucket makes a huge difference. If not now done the line im sure you'd by one and sell a skid steer. Another job you could try hauling hay down to the other farm has it has a trailer attachment. Love the video.
I find when doing bed pack, the best approach is boom in and get a run up on it, try to keep all four tyres in the ground for better traction and don't catch the edge of the concrete, it hurts, also remember you have crab steer, it's a godsend for getting tight up to the edge of pens
Telescopes are awsome. I use Merlo (small one) and Manitou (quite bigger one) and I love them. I have high manure spreader Joskin. You can't reach without telescope hauler. Also for storing hay balls up to 6 rows etc.
I do not know if its fitted to your demo but on the JCB it should have a float button, so when travelling with a full bucket of manure in your case instead of the hydraulics bouncing the machine it cushions it at the cylinder to float stops the bouncing.
It may be an expensive tool. But that hamdler made easy work of that pile and feed too. I would calculate the hours spent in each machine. Plus your time or a hamds time. It may be worth it for the farm even if you fond a used one with a similar bucket. What i saw was super efficient and very fast. I would guess it took half the time if not more. Great job i do hope you do get one or finance one if it really does make work faster and easier.
I havent been a sub for long, i've only recently developped an interest for farming but i just wanted to say, thanks for your content, i love that its genuine and how you always seem in a great mood
Love how curious the cows are. They notice something different right away.
They always notice anything different. The other day I milked them with a blue eye because of an injury, the cows stared at me like I was a stranger🙂
They are as bad as kids or dogs
Is seems to be the old heffers that do it most often
We were pouring concrete where the cows normally exit our parlour so we had to re-route them. took an extra person to milk just to get them to move out of the door and to keep them from walking back towards the parlour to smell things
Growing up on a farm , I can’t believe I find cleaning manure out of a barn interesting. Thanks, Eric!
Ditto!
Dad had to keep us kids busy so we pitched it into the spreader with silage forks and scoop shovels.
He tried out a bobcat for 2 weeks and decided that was too easy as well as too $$$ for our operation.
Me too, family thinks I might not be quite right.

You should actually be glad that these two machines showed up at the same time. Now you can compare them at the same time on the same job
Yes GOD is good he gave us wonderful farmers like you guys
Amen

What a fantastic sunrise with the sycamore & ...Mars?!! You guys make a HUGE operation look so easy ! 👍🇺🇸👌

I think what I've learned most about dairy farming is poop management. Very important.

On Merlo you have an inching pedal so you not wear brakes unnecessary

Huge scoop on that Manitou.

It is nice that I doesn’t tear up the stone as bad as the skid steer
Expensive toys are always fun, great video as always
Beautiful sunrise too
Yes, i see where an auto-bucket shaker would be handy.
I see you disabled the back up beeping noise. Nice.
The sunrise was stunning. Smeary is that a new Ericism
The only problem I have is that you get more accomplished before breakfast than I sometimes do in a day.
@Mama C 🤣😝🤣
@Mama CWith your admission, I will now claim retirement as my excuse for not doing all day long like I used to. And I thoroughly enjoy watching them go about their daily live knowing that someday, they too will be retired and do as much or as little as they want.
It’s fun to see how excited they get when you put new shavings down on the bed pack!
Spreading manure before sunrise has got to be one of the least glamorous things I've seen on any farmtube channel :D

I always like seeing the pens being cleaned out and looks like both machines are doing a good job

Practice makes perfect Erik. You'll get use to what ever machine you keep. It's a learning process. Stay safe.

I really appreciated the sunrise and God is good. Indeed.
"Don't demo a machine you can't afford" that's good advice
Beautiful sun rise, thank you for sharing!
Get it done while the ground is frozen and the next storm system come thru. Good job.. that's a big bucket😲
That is a beautiful view it doesn't take much to fill the spreader up with manure when you use the both of them
great video as always Eric watching your vids lately I've noticed you lean more towards the new Manitou more then the JCB machine , ill guess if you buy a new machine it will be the Mantou ? keep up the nice work be safe .
And bigger bucket sure loads spreader quicker. My vote is keep manitou. Saves on feed mix time too. Maybe another bucket for feeding??? Enjoyed
I work for a company here in Texas and we have 6 but we run anywhere from 4 to 5 machines a day. It's an awesome job!!! 😎😎😎
May be a little harder in tight places but I'm sure it's a lot faster in the open barn with the bigger bucket!
It appears. you prefer the manitou over the JCB... either way, they are larger than the skid steer but capacity is more in their bucket... everything has its place... if it works for you... enjoy and thank you for sharing your days with us... it is a blessing. that heifer licking the phone was a great touch haha
Great awesome video Eric. Like both telahandlers going , yes cows are very curious. If something is going on in there environment they want to check it out
Lol she was giving everyone kisses . The cows are so cool
My vote is for the Manitou.
That thing seems like the perfect farm machine man dang
They're really common in the UK, bloody versatile machines, and manitou make a lot of really cool attachments
Great job by you and your dad... You've done more by 6AM than the Union guys at my shop do in 2 days... It was also done safely,, Keep it up, spring is coming soon..

You nailed it Eric, God is Good!! Keep saying yes to the Lord.
Amen to "God is good!" All the time!!!
Yes
I like the Manitou better it seems like it hauls more . What machine is your favorite for this job?
One thing to take into consideration is the money you will save on tires and you won’t tear up the yard as much and you won’t get stuck
LOVE ALL YOUR VIDEOS ERIC HAVE BLESSED DAY

Now that you've been running both machines on a heads up side by side comparison , are you leaning more towards liking one machine over the other ?
Definitely looks like the Manitou is more maneuverable.
I havent been a sub for long, i've only recently developped an interest for farming but i just wanted to say, thanks for your content, i love that its genuine and how you always seem in a great mood
Don't demo a machine you can't afford. Wise words. Dangerous game. So true. Have a great week.
Must be nice with no snow. We had cold, plus a foot of snow and a freezing rain to pull the spreader through
If the machines make efficient work and better productivity than purchase will pay for itself ?
Amen, God is so good!
Hello Eric, thanks for the video. To me it seemed like the Manitou was more silent in the cab than the JCB.
Yup the saying goes "you break it you bought it ". I bet it's fun but still work so have fun at work very few jobs in the world you can do it
I like both machines. Good stuff
Awesome Video and Much Love as Always 🐄 Man!!!
Both units look worth keeping!
It's nice to play with new toys
on the manitiou there is a function that lets you rev it up in gear as you press on the brake
You sure do have some fine looking young cattle there.
Nice BB goal at end of video. Gotta love the hoops.. And yes God is good
I hope you buy the Manitou, it will make the daily chores much easier.👍
Curious to hear what you think of the two. I am sure they are both great machines, but one may work better for your farm than the other?
I would say it definitely looks like you are liking the Manitou way more then the JCB
Man... every single time Eric upload a video, I just get super excited to start watching it, even if it lasts for 20 minutes.
Yesssss.. God is good ... All the time. 😇
Bigger bucket makes the job go faster but I still like the skid steer.
Y’all should try to demo a compact wheel Loader
God is Good! Amen to that!!!
I was wondering now that you have worked in the new barn what do you think should you have changed some things or is it all good
The bucket size must make the job go a lot quicker
How is fuel consumption compared to the skid loader ? Always a great video !
GOD IS GREAT !!! GOD BLESS Y'ALL !!!
A piece of advice: when you are putting on a bucket or tool on a telehandler extend the arm a little bit instead of driving as it’s much more precise
Sure is pretty at sunrise, even if your shoveling manure.
