russell’s reaction to his mom is kinda sad to me 😭 like he needed someone to see through him and his rock n roll vapid lifestyle & once it happened, he didn’t know how to feel
Roky Erickson rocks Because they were trying it on with Russell and she was in love with him. Also, not sure if you were joking but that’s not Lisa Kudrow.
I was a boy in the Seventies. Every adult woman was like that. All the girls came and played with us. And every woman in town was our mother. Just like Russell when you got in trouble. lol. I knew damn well that if the woman next door or if any woman anywhere raised her voice, I'd do just like Russell, "Yes, Ma'am." lol. Otherwise they let us play. It was a good world back then. Hope you're world is going groovy.

It's nice how she immediately encourages Russell to do his best at the show and be bold, having said what she said before. Elaine may not like Stillwater's music or their lifestyle, but she respects them as professional musicians and knows her son likes them.
Thx. It's my favourite concert scene from the movie. Watching it on a big screen with full throttle volume makes makes you fill like beeing there. Especially the guitar solo is great.
The Cleveland Public Hall, where they would have done this concert (and where it's filmed, I think) is just a great, old school rock venue. When the inductions are in Cleveland they're done at Public Hall and you can tell the artists from the pre-arena rock era feel right at home.
A girlfriend showed me this movie many years ago and I loved it. Thought billy was just fake playing guitar, then I watched the behind the scenes video. _He was actually playing_ , Peter Frampton gave him a two month crash course in how to play. You can't beat authentic
This was such a great movie probably in my all-time top three favorite movies the seventies such a great time for music kids nowadays don't know what the f*** they missed I go back in a heartbeat if I could I wish I had a time machine
+Tessa Eriksen indeed, I used it to post a comment on Facebook. I think this scene really shows how much Bowie had an impact on entire generations, whether a person knew it or not. He was an icon for many.
This is such a spooky scene. It is so realistic because nothing comes out of it. Many movies would have the rocker enlist in the army after listening to that "person of substance" line from Frances. In this movie, the man is "spooked out" for a moment but doesn't change. The truth is change due to one line is difficult.
Elaine, I think, means that Russell can still be a successful musician, but with more meaningful lyrics and songs, rather than just perform music for the sake of being a rock star
The song at 3:26 is "Love comes and goes", the solo at 4:10 is from "Hour of Need", and at 4:24 it's from "You had to be there". All these songs you can get from a Special DVD edition called The Director's Edition/Untitled/Bootleg of Almost Famous.....if you can find it now?
This scene is based on Cameron crowes real life experiences with bands. The guys from deep purple called his mum when he was touring with them, and when he was on the road with pearl jam in the 90s they pulled them into their pre show huddle. Love this director and movie!!
The scriptwriter nails this scene with but two words : “It’s Bowie!” Of course, casting did their part by giving those words to Swardson. This thing should’ve won an armful of Oscars, it’s that good.
You know what? I saw this in the theater (lovely, pre Smartphone era. People weren't talking a certain way, wagging their fingers and swaying their heads when arguing or talking and we didn't have to worry about 'something' happening at the theater).....and I've seen it so many times since and yes, of course it's a masterpiece and yes, Penny Lane - was amazing. BUT........the Mom - -- it just now hit me how amazingly well she played the part -- all scenes. In this scene it's great - after chewing him out she says "be bold, and mighty forces will come to your aid" - lol shit on him then sprayed air freshener all over him.

I noticed that too. I wonder if it's to show his overall discomfort with his hidden homosexuality, evident with not quite fitting in with the band, or the brand.
Ha ha. You know that Nick Swardson's character would totally blow David Bowie off no questions asked probably faster than a woman would if asked. And this guy probably does not have one ounce of homosexuality in him. Lol
That was unnecessary why would you do that Russell? William was talking to his mother on the phone and then you wanted to talk to her on the phone she doesn't know you the least you can do is wait your turn

Frances freaking McDormand.
Always delivers.
Even her role in Isle Of Dogs as small as it was playing The Interpreter. Knocked it out of the park.
"ur mom kinda freaked me out."
"she means well."
lol
That’s my mom
I LOVE HER ! Shes fantastic in EVERY role.she plays
I love how good still water's music is. The fact that they put in the effort to write and record great music for the band is remarkable.
This is a rare sort of scene. Billy was actually talking to Frances instead of having someone just read off camera to him. Pretty cool.
Katie Herzig
I was distracted by the three groupies traipsing through the hallway while Russell was on the phone. Why does Penny shush them away?
smh, I mean doesnt Lisa Kudrow at least get a scene credit (@1:17) for Almost Famous?
