Based on some of the comments I don’t think people payed attention to the fact you said numerous times that tools are a personal preference. What works for one person may not work for another. At no time did Alexandra say not to buy a MINC. She simply stated that for her, in her experience she has had better luck with the laminator. She’s also giving us an alternative to the MINC since not everyone can find or afford a MINC.

I'm kinda peeved. just saw someone tear into her video without watching the whole thing.. she never said that all foil is the same. Alexandra did say there is toner foil and the other one. like you mentioned we all have different experiences with tools. Also, if alexandra finds that she gets better results from a commercial printer, that's her experience. she's not telling people to go out and only use a commercial printer. Alexandra has always seemed to follow viewer suggestions and tips on doing things. How do you tear someone so harshly and not watch the whole thing. That UA-camr may be an expert foiler but her she doesn’t need to attack other videos that she doesn’t agree with. The whole live chat was a cheap shot by a bunch of folks who apparently have nothing better to do than snicker at other people. I hope it makes them feel good because it made them look small.

And i watch the other person also and I am a fan, and while she doesn't not have her own pre printed sheets, she does advertise for a several companies that do even if she says they are not paid endorsements. Alexandria has her own shop so of course she is going to showcase her items. But to say she discouraged people from using one method to steer them to another is incorrect.

I have a laminator and both sizes of the Minc and a little experience with foiling. In my opinion the laminators work best with parchment paper as they do not get very hot. The Minc works best with the plastic sleeves that were designed for it. Although both parchment and copy paper can be used. I believe that the reason foiling through the Minc had wrinkles was due to, too much heat. In my experience when not using the proper sleeves the heat needs to be reduced as the sandwich is thinner. Hope this helps.
I love my Minc! It is a far superior product than most laminators. I feel like this video is a little misleading. The wrinkling is probably due to the foil being taped down, not the Minc machine itself. I never have wrinkling and I do not tape my foil down. I also use the carrier sheets that came with the Minc, not parchment paper. You can also definitely print great toner images at home and do not need to buy preprinted toner sheets/images. You will usually have to make adjustments to your printer. I am also able to use thick cardstock in my Minc without difficulty. The quality of the images done in the Minc are much better than with any laminator I have tried.
I love my Minc but it does wrinkle (for me) and I always use a Minc carrier folder. It’s possible, given that it is a machine, that not all the mincs end up being calibrated the same. Both things can be true at the same time. Relative to home laser printers, I bought a Canon and it doesn’t work well at all. I think the trick is to buy a model that a foiling expert has determined will work for that purpose. I’m not saying Canon laser printers won’t work (trying to fend off any attack), I’m saying the one I purchased doesn’t work well for foiling.
@@margueritefrancis1957 my laser printer was not expensive at all and it was the one that Heidi swapp suggested and it would have at least a 600 dpi to print good quality of toner to foil. I have never had problems with foiling on my minc. It also depends on the paper you need good paper too to get good foiling.
Absolutely agree! It's always best to follow manufacturer's instructions, and use approved products in order to obtain the best results and consistent success. And, the Minc carrier folder, is a must for success.

Since I got my Minc my foiling is perfect every time. I had mixed results with my laminator. I never tape down my foil. Also you have to use the carrier sheets with the Minc not parchment paper
I have a mini minc and I love it. I print on my laser printer my own foiling paper and no problems what so ever. I have a HP it’s not on the highest quality setting it’s like over 1200 dpi but mine is at 600 dpi. Everything that was printed was foiled. And I never put tape on my foil nor my paper to be foiled. I also use the carrier sheet that came with the minc. Parchment paper just wrinkles too much.
I had a hard time getting my full size minc to turn on at first also. I had to mess with it a while, and then did some searching on the internet. The on/off button is backwards. So try the back button one way and hold the 1 button for about 5 or 6 seconds. If no light comes on or it doesn't beep then flip the back button to the other position and hold the 1 button for 5 or 6 seconds again. I finally got mine to turn on and have not had a problem since then.
If you’re paying, what $80 or more? for a MINC you shouldn’t need to “play” with it to get it to turn on. The button is backwards? Really? How did that even leave the factory floor?

Well maybe as you were told what the numbers on the minc were for that one of your viewers mentioned, you would have put the foiling through using at least number 1 instead of 3 and then with less pressure would have prevented the wrinkles. Always a good idea to read the instructions 🤪
Good demo. My experience with parchment is that it crinkles easily so I'm wondering if yours is doing something similar. I noticed that there was a wrinkle on the parchment before you ran it thru the Minc.🤷♀️

Thank you for the frank and thorough information on foiling from a laser printer. Like many others, I was given the impression that foiling would work with any laser printer and had been trying to find a laser printer that could handle heavier cardstock because of that. I'll stop looking and driving my sweetie nuts with that search. We still want a laser printer for home printing, but I won't hold that up for any foiling desires.
Don't give up. See Nancy Stamps video's regarding foiling. I think the reason the minc bubbled was because it actually comes with a carrier sheet that isn't parchment paper. Nancy has some awesome videos.
I send 100lb through the back door of my brother print 100% perfect foiling... though thicker isn't always better. I prefer hamilco simi gloss for my foiling... toner sheets aren't even 100 lb most are 80lb
Just a kindly FYI, this is not really thorough information on foiling with a laser printer. There's quite a bit of information missing, but then it's not a video about laser printer foiling, so I don't expect it to be. I foil beautifully with an $88 brother laser printer, the right paper and a Minc (but a laminator works too). No problems with the right tools 😃 so don't let the video discourage you from trying with whatever printer you purchase. Good luck 🤞
My laser printer is not an expensive one. It just uses black toner. In fact when I first got mine Heidi Swapp suggested which one she uses. I bought it and works great, I just looked for one that can print 600 dpi. My printer is set at the dpi and works great. It also depends on what paper you are using. Don’t give up, there are lots of videos out there if you want a good foiling experience.
I have to disagree with some of this - I have an inexpensive laser printer (a Canon from Amazon that was under $100) and I can print on 80lb cardstock and it foils beautifully with my Minc. I have some other preprinted foilable designs from Thermoweb and there is no difference that I can see between foiling those images and the ones that I have printed. I did have to play with the printer settings a bit to make it print at its best quality and to let it know it was printing on cardstock, but once I got those set I am getting beautiful results.
What is the model number of your Canon. I purchased a Canon laser printer on Amazon and it does not work well at all-for foiling. It works great for everyday printing.
@@margueritefrancis1957 it's a Canon image class lbp6030w. It took a little bit of messing with the print settings, but now that it's dialed in, I'm very happy with it. I make sure to use very smooth cardstock as well. And it also works to print on acetate for foiling. You just need to be sure to buy transparencies for laser printers and use the transparency print settings.

@@margueritefrancis1957 I should have mentioned - there's a lot that comes together to make the foiling look good, and it might be that yours will work fine if you tweak your settings a bit (make sure you set it for highest quality printing, and make sure you set it for printing on cardstock or thick paper. Also, make sure that you are printing on smooth cardstock - I've been using Accent Opaque 80lb from Amazon and that works; I also have some Hammermill Laser 80 lb and that works (but it's pretty pricey!) I have some Springhill digital and that doesn't work for foiling at all - too much texture to the cardstock. Great for colored pencils, though. And are you trying to foil with a Minc or a laminator? I know a lot of youtube folks say a laminator is fine, but my Minc works way better for me, and doesn't take nearly as long to heat up. (My minc also works better for laminating than my laminator does, for what that's worth.)

I’m working on settings, but I have “toner leakage” (made up that phrase) on my paper meaning I have toner where I don’t want it. I tried cleaning my toner cartridge but just ordered a new one In Case it’s the toner cartridge. Truthfully, it cost less than $100 so I’m not complaining. Will keep trying setting changes... I actually like the grungy look so I can sort of live with my less than perfect results. Plus, I’m doing a lot more foiling on alcohol ink backgrounds, stenciled gel panels, and am playing around with stamps. Thanks so much again...I appreciate the input. In order to get a good print from your laser printer it needs to be a black toner only NOT a COLOR printer. My Brother black works wonderful with foiling on all kinds of foil
If you want good foiling, I’d get the minc, it is made for foiling. Carrier sheets are great because it doesn’t wrinkle like parchment. Laminators have to be heated at least a half hour before you use it, must be at the hottest to work. Good luck with your foiling. And don’t tape down your foil and paper to be foiled.
I haven’t had any issues foiling with the laminator it works amazing and was very affordable. I also love that Alex gives her very honest opinion of items. Hope everyone has a great week.

Little disappointed with this video, I think a comparison video should include more than 2 tries on each machine. It was 5 minutes of the foiling then you started stamping and went off topic. Wish you had did more of the foiling.
I’ve got a laser printer. HP laser jet pro set on CYMK colour. I apply the foil with no tape into parchment paper and through a standard laminator. But the results are never good. Like the foil attaches but not only roughly 60%. And there are lines missing etc. Or sometimes the top and bottom sections are done completely. Any help?

Maybe when you demonstrate something you can make sure you follow the instructions and equipment provided in the box? I used to watch this channel as you were helpful, now it seems disorganised and full of misinformation.
If you want to foil, get the minc. Laminators are somewhat good for some things, but if you want good quality foiling, get the minc. It’s made for foiling. If you want a laser printer, it doesn’t need to be expensive, just look for one that has at least a 600 dpi setting. Mine is set up that way and everything foils. Also good quality paper is also important, maybe some 100# semi gloss. Besides laminators you have to heat it up at least a half hour before foiling, needs to be really hot for the best coverage.
If I were you, I wouldn’t purchase two-sided paper to foil. You are melting toner on both sides of the paper. Gina k, Brutus Monroe, Simon says, local craft stores all have foilables.
@@oliviapizana1022 good luck on which machine you decide to get. There are some good inexpensive laminators that do well in foiling, you just need to have it on a half hour before foiling. Check Amazon, Joanns, Tuesday Morning for sale prices on the minc. I have used my minc for decorations at weddings and various party decor and my customers love that extra look or elegance.

Clean the carriers with 100% acetone and you can use over and over and they are relatively inexpensive
You would not have had as much trouble with wrinkling if you hadn’t taped it down
Your wrinkles are caused by the parchment. Use the carrier that comes with it not parchment.
Noticed your paper that you sandwich between the foil have ripples in it so that could be why it has ripples on it

I put a piece of copy paper inside the Minc plastic folder so toner doesn't transfer to it.
Me too.
If toner does transfer to the Minc folder, a little acetone (nail polish remover) will take it right off.

The settings control heat not pressure. If you are going to post a snarky comment, at least you could make it accurate.

I had to return my Minc and it started smoking and melted the carrier that came with it! It was a horrible experience!

Do heat presses suck for foiling? Ive tried a bunch of different heats and it just doesnt seem that it closes tight enough to foil :/ ?

Can you foil tags in the minc
This is so weird! Funny, but weird...I just found you like two days ago and subscribed. This evening (like right now), I click on this video to watch the replay and as soon as it starts....you say, “hey Lisa!”
Maybe when you demonstrate something you can make sure you follow the instructions and equipment provided in the box?
I used to watch this channel as you were helpful, now it seems disorganised and full of misinformation.

If you want to foil, get the minc. Laminators are somewhat good for some things, but if you want good quality foiling, get the minc. It’s made for foiling. If you want a laser printer, it doesn’t need to be expensive, just look for one that has at least a 600 dpi setting. Mine is set up that way and everything foils. Also good quality paper is also important, maybe some 100# semi gloss. Besides laminators you have to heat it up at least a half hour before foiling, needs to be really hot for the best coverage.
Where do you get the precut sheets that you use to insert the foil
If I were you, I wouldn’t purchase two-sided paper to foil. You are melting toner on both sides of the paper. Gina k, Brutus Monroe, Simon says, local craft stores all have foilables.

@@oliviapizana1022 good luck on which machine you decide to get. There are some good inexpensive laminators that do well in foiling, you just need to have it on a half hour before foiling. Check Amazon, Joanns, Tuesday Morning for sale prices on the minc. I have used my minc for decorations at weddings and various party decor and my customers love that extra look or elegance.
