I have Deco foil and didn't know how to use it. I want to THANK YOU for this informative video. I Love crafting so I bought the foil and didn't know how it works. 😂😂😂. THANK YOU AGAIN and your daughter is a GREAT assistant 💟
Depending on which Scotch laminator. Let it heat up for a minimum of 30+ minutes for best results. You might need to run it through twice. Use copy or parchment paper as your carrier.
Thank you so much for doing this, I have been wanting to get a Minc, but just simply can not afford it on SSI. Twenty dollars I can manage to afford and for the small amount of cards I make and the even smaller amount of foiling I do, this is perfect for me. I just put it in my cart and will be ordering it over the weekend. Thanks.
Awesome ...I just bought a 20$ laminator for foiling from Big W here in Australia..so all your tips are so helpful.. Now I just need to get brave enough to try it ..
Your daughter is so sweet. ❤ I bet my problems were dust spots. But I get better. Have a laminator, which Hass some settings. And slowly we start to get along.😊
This was great to find this since the great deal I got on a minc, recently, was a bust since it didn't end up working. Ugh. FYI- I think you *meant* millimeter and not milliliter (which is a measurement of volume) but actually the laminating sheets come in 3 and 5 mils. Mils is a measurement for plastic sheeting and is not short for millimeter. Mm is the abbreviation for millimeter. One mil is approximately 2.5 percent of a mm. So it is extremely thin, as you notice. Lol You would need over 13 sheets of 3 mil (or more than 6 pouches thick) to equal the thickness of just one millimeter ( which is already rather small since you need over 25 mm to equal an inch). :)
I have a scotch as well and definitely have not had to let it preheat for 30 min...10 minutes maybe and it foils just fine. I even used it with my homemade toner (toner powder and glue)
I have to say, your results with the Swingline aren't that much difference to mine using my Minc....and I paid almost AUD200 for the Minc!!! Thank you for your demonstration, that was very helpful. And thanks to your assistant too, she's adorable!
Just came across your video and it was SO helpful to this 'newbie' foiler!! I make a LOT of cards and not able to afford the Minc right now, so this will be perfect for me to start out with and pretty sure my 8 yr old granddaughter will find this crafting project 'pretty COOL' for her artwork as well!! Thanks for sharing...off to Amazon I go...LOL. Take care..
I have a anna griffin minc but after watching this youtube I had to purchase the laminator. Thanks for being an enabler. I love being an foiling snob lol
You can add a shim, one of the rollers will be the heat roller the other will be the roller used just for the pressure, some times if you email the makers they share that info with you like mine did. :D then all you do is turn the foil so that it's facing the heat roller and place a shim behind the card you're foiling. So if the top roller is the heat roller then have the foil face up with the shim at the bottom behind the card, if it's bottom then face down the foil and have the back with the shim facing up. Also I've found through so much testing lol... that strangely enough tracing paper works best as a carrier sheet, it transfers the heat through better than regular paper or baking paper.
Loved this video--thank you! Was planning on purchasing a Minc but read some bad reviews on it and decided not to spend the $-then saw your video. I will try this first, as we need a laminator anyway. So fun listening to your little girl, also-she is charming!
Thank you so much for demonstrating with a laminating machine 😃 helps me a lot I didn’t want to invest so much money into a machine I would be using seldom 😘
Great video… minc have only just come to New Zealand and they are $250 but I want to have a try… I already have a laminator so I’ll give this a go.. thanks
Your daughter made me smile the entire time, loved it! Great information, makes me feel better about buying a budget laminator to start. Where did you get your paper cutter? I've been struggling to find a good one.
Yes, but If you don't let the laminator heat up for 30 minutes and the laminator doesn't provide enough pressure it's not going to make much difference. Not all laminators are equal.
Very interesting. Thank you for doing this. I love that butterfly print for testing. One because it's home printed rather than Factory printed, but also it has the Bold shapes and the fine lines. I wonder if you've tried maybe heating it up for a good 30 minutes and then tried the butterfly print, if there would be any difference in the foiling
Loved your video and your perfect assistant! I don't understand where you buy these images? So, you can't make your own images on a copy machine? I'd LOVE to try this, I was a teacher for 36 years and I own a laminating machine. Just don't understand how and where to get sentiments and images?? Thank you so much!
Yes you can download and make your own images as long as they are printed with a Laser/ toner printer. Inkjet will not work. You can also buy toner printed images from companies. We have free images in the Foiling Snobs Club on Facebook.

I kept getting overfoiling with a foiling machine, and love my laminator! I cant use the dies, but this is cheaper as I can use my printer and my stamps! Yeah!
You might be using the wrong foil. Over foiling happens with hot foil. If you mean the Hot foil machines, turn your heat down if you can or less timer. Take out some shims if you are using them.

I have this laminator, I always let it heat up for at least 30 minutes. Otherwise i don't always get good adhesion.
Hello from Illinois. My question is what is the cold laminating setting do?
Those are for the "sticky" laminating sheets. Basically it has glue inside and just needs to be pressed together to seal.
I have a mini minc but I think I'll get a laminator for my bigger projects until I see a sale on big mama! 😁 tfs how well this swing line works!!!
How about using a heavier cover paper

Yes. I would recommend that if this wasn't getting hot enough, seemed to work ok though and I didn't even let it heat up the whole 30 mins.
why is it always toner printed? why cant i use inkjet printed?
Because inkjet ink soaks into the paper and toner sits on top for the foil to stick to. It's science.

The foil art is the toner printed design. The toner foil is what foil you use to stick to it.
