How about Steel Breeze? they had a top 20 hit with You don't Want me Anymore and a top 40 hit with Dreaming is Easy. Pretty good album but never heard from them again.
As a flight attendant fr South African Airways in the 1980' s, I spent most of my London flight allowances on music: saw Thompson Twins, Depeche Mode, Talk Talk, Fleetwood Mac, Heart, Tanita Tikaram, Toni Childs, Black, Madonna, Level 42 and more
I sure miss the 80s. There will never be another decade like it. Especially music wise. Lies and If You Were Here, always my two favorites. They're other hits were great too.❤
They were really good. The 80's was so dynamic and diverse in terms of music. Wow, I seemed to blink and this year I am 60. I still hum and sing many tunes from 1983, like I am stuck in a time warp. Great memories. [Edit] Thanks.
The Thompson Twins were the ultimate in cool!! When I hear their music, I'm reminded of my buddy Richard (who sadly passed away many years ago.) We went to many concerts together, and one of the most memorable was The Thompson Twins performanace at the Bronco Bowl in Dallas, TX. They put on a fantastic live show. Glad to hear they're all doing their own thing now. They certain left an indelible mark on 80's music!!!
I was lucky enough to see them in the early 80s in London's Heaven nightclub. They were just so hip and cool, and put on an intense, energetic gig, which the crowd lapped up. Good to hear they are still around individually.
Had the pleasure of seeing the Thompson Twins perform in New York in 1983 on a floating stage out in the water down at an NY river - can’t remember the name of it but it was a great concert 😉👍
Great video! I love the Thompson Twins! I feel very lucky to have been at live aid as a teenager. I also have seen Tom twice over the years. So amazing !
It was Howard Jones who persuaded Tom to dip his toe into performing the hits again I believe. They both did some dates together to get him back out on the road again.
Here' s To Future Days is a masterpiece 🌟🌟🌟🌟 In my native France 🇨🇵 I was so in love with their sound and their song Don't Mess With Doctor Dreams had a huge impact on me.I realised the danger of drug addiction with this incredible band 🙏🏼🌄 Thank you for your channel ❣️👌🏼
"New Wave" was THE best music genre and competition was fierce in the 80s with so many talented artists and bands. Most created their own distinct signature sound and style.
Thanks for the comment and can't disagree--the 80s overall were amazing for music, from Rock to Pop to New Wave and R&B with the emergence of hip hop...
The Thompson Twins were an amazing trio. I was a Dj in the 90s and I use to play a few songs by Babble (Tom Bailey) that was a hit for the crowd. Love this channel, I would love to see your channel cover something on the Teen-Girls in the 80s, before the Britney's & Christina's, like Debbie Gibson, Martika, Tiffany, Shanice, Traci Spencer etc...
I saw them live in 1984 in their prime and also saw Tom Bailey last summer and he still sounds very good. I listened to his solo album "Science Fiction" from 2018 and it is also pretty good.
@@GIXXERUKX @djflashback80s Thanks both for these great ideas--do you also think people would enjoy Ultravox and Howard Jones "Where Are They Now?" videos? Trolling for ideas here...
@@musicgoldminer yes definitely and maybe also the human league and heaven 17 as they were all originally the human league 👍🏻 Ultravox have an extensive history if you cover the original band with john foxx and on to midge ure and live aid and billie currie with visage, tubeway army, gary numan.. a lot of history And maybe japan…mick kahn, david sylvian, ryuchi sakamoto etc
@ I love our era of music My favorite era of music is the 80’s slash early- mid 90’s I’m so glad I discovered your channel!! Great channel- have you highlighted 1980’s 1 hit wonders??? That would be awesome 👏
Loved the Thompson Twins 👍 I was at a pub gig with friends, we were watching the small time band that we followed through the 80s/90s. We were invited back to the dressing room afterwards, and there was Tom Bailey, quietly sitting in the corner (he was friends with a band member) letting the band just do their thing, WHICH i hasten to add, wasn't sex or drugs, but just an after gig catch up!! I didn't approach Tom. I just thought he'd appreciate not being hassled.
Hey thank you for the update, I really liked the T.T. and yes they were part of the sound of the 80's. I often wondered what became of them and hoped it was good ❤😊
The only albums I remember were Quick Step and Sidekick and Into the Gap.Produced by Alex Sadkin. If you bought the cassette versions you were treated to a whole side of great remixes.Dub versions if you will.Revollutionary stuff.
So in 2024 another 80's band, Haircut 100 had a new hit The Unloving Plum, a really great tune. The music video was Directed by some bloke named Tom Bailey, yup .... that Tom Bailey.
I got a laugh out of 'If You Were Here' playing at the end of 16 candles. It seemed like such an odd choice lyrically ("If you were here/I could deceive you", etc.) akin to politicians playing 'Born In The USA'. Uhhhh I don't think you're paying attention to the lyrics, guys hahaha
Lies was the 1st T.T.'s song i ever heard in 1982, MTV rarely played it though and the radio's never played T.T.'s except '' Hold Me Now'' since it hit # 1 they had to play it. U.S. radio airplay choices totally s*cks !!
We respectfully disagree completely. And we’ve seen him twice live recently, once in the UK and once in Mexico. But we don’t work for or represent Thompson Twins or Tom Bailey and we respect everyone’s opinion!
Many artists came across badly at Live Aid because they had audio problems and a lack of sound checks. There are many people that have commented on this video that they loved the TT shows they attended.

I saw Thompson Twins, Oingo Bongo, and The Fixx opening for The Police in 1983!
I enjoyed the concert tremendously!
Great lineup! One of us saw The Fixx with The Police that tour also--great show and The Fixx were playing "Red Skies" at sunset--fantastic timing!
I met all three members of the Thompson Twins in 1984 on the Into the Gap tour. They were very lovely and chatty!

Gee I wish I had slept through the 80s,,, so full of cringe..... Well.... for me anyway
To each their own, right? But lots of rock, metal, pop, R&B, even early rap in 80s--with all those choices nothing good?
The band that should have been, but didn't.
