Coming across this video in my childhood home turned out to be a bit of a emotional moment for a 50 year old bloke!...Big thank you to all those children entertainers of the 70s and 80s of British television. Thanks for making this video 👍
I'm 53 i grew up watching rainbow rod , jane and Freddie were fantastic always makes u smile rest in peace Freddie u be missed. Happy memories u gave to me and my brother and sister
I think Rod Burton is a remarkable man. He showed absolutely no resentment or jealousy after the divorce and during Janes romance with Freddy. The friendship he wanted to keep was far more important to him
It had that legendary theme tune that still brings a tear to my eye. It's like comedy nowadays -- they just don't make em like they used to. I just can't imagine growing up without Zippy, George and Bungle, but at least other characters like Basil Brush are still going from that era.
Now I’m older I have a theory that the reason they were so good and all so different was that they were made by people who were part of the late 60s/70s crowd who experimented with a lot of drugs, that’s why the programs especially animations & cartoons were so fantastical
Rod, Jane and Freddy were a daily part of my daughter’s life when she was little. She loved Rainbow and she watched it on video when it wasn’t on the telly. We all knew the songs, one in particular was called four in a line, which we sang on her first holiday in Majorca - me, her dad, our little girl and her toy dog being the four! She’ll be 40 this year! 😂. Happy days. Thanks for the memories Rod, Jane and the rest of the Rainbow 🌈 gang. RIP Freddy x
Rainbow was not only the highlight of my childhood, it was also my introduction to UA-cam -- in 2006 my then boyfriend showed me the private video of the Rainbow cast performing an extremely suggestive, not for broadcast, episode that wound its way onto the Internet. This is honestly a pretty wholesome video to be honest. Too many of these groups dissolve into rancour and drugs and other horrific incidents. This is how it really should be done and I salute these awesome performers who made it work long beyond the cancellation of their flagship series. RIP Freddy ❤ -- you not only brought joy to me as a viewer, but to your fellow performers. I hope Rod and Jane are also doing well in their sunset years.
I’m 48 now but remember being really little watching Rainbow on a black & white tv.....when we got a colour tv my sister and I were so excited to guess what colour Zippy, George & Bungle would be......a really happy memory! I also remember thinking how glamorous Jane was and wondering if I would be like that when I was grown up! (I am not 😂)
Wow this took me back. Thanks for the memories Freddy and of course Rod and Jane. 55 years young and loved rainbow as a wean in Scotland. Rip Freddy 🙏🏼❤️✝️❤️🙏🏼
Excellent video taking me right back to being a nipper of 5 years old and then through the years. I was still a teen when I watched Rainbow and passed its legacy onto my own children who in turn have done the same to my grandchildren. Wholesome values in both Rainbow and Rod, Jane and Freddy shows. Thank you.
I used to do exactly the same thing during lunch as my school was a 10 min walk away. I think Button moon came on afterwards followed by the Sullivan's (which was boring) then back to school. Memories eh.
I'm 56 but always have a rye smile 😁 to myself when I think of these people. My memories are filled with warmth and laughter, even to this day. Thank you Rainbow and Rod, Jane and Freddie, also those who left.👍🏽
I adored George and hated how Zippy picked on him. My mum said George was a puppet and I couldn't get a 'George' as a pet as he wasn't real. What did I know, I was only a nipper. Mums told it how it was in those days.
@@FunkySpunkyJunky Don't be too hard on yourself, twangers come in many shapes and sizes but so long as it can fill a pram it'll serve it's purpose admirably 🤣

I remember the very first Rainbow, there was no George and Bungle was not the fluffy bear he became, he was very scary! When my daughter was little, she too grew up with Rainbow (now with George and the fluffier but annoying Bungle) along with Rod, Jane and Freddie. We went to a number of their shows and still treasure our signed posters and cassette music! We went to their very last show at the Assembly Hall in Tunbridge Wells. It was very moving and Rod was so tearful. The final song was 'You put a smile on my face'! Which they all did for many years. Thankfully we have our videos and youtube to continue enjoying the work of this remarkable trio with a smile on our face. And of course, we still have the occasional 'Wobble'!
42, and I remember them so vividly. Not just during my own childhood, but through that of my brother and sister both younger than me. It was such a shame when Freddy died. He was a real inspiration, as they all were. I think I thought Freddy was the cool one. Great memories.
Anybody my age (I'm 65) will remember these three with a fond heart. We were a little bit late to be rainbow's target audience, but none the less we watched it, if only to see Jane (who was quite a hotty!!). Sad to here about Freddie, though. By the by, any old rainbow fans should google 'the original bungle bear'. The original bungle suit had to be changed as it scared the hell out of the kids.
Was there from the beginning, tons of happy hours watching rainbow 🌈.They brought a ray of sunshine into childhoods that at times could be miserable..Nothing compares to making a child smile , feel safe and happy .
Nothing like them before or since. Like others grew up watching them in the 70s and 80s, was Fortunate enough to have met Jane and Freddy briefly once, just carrying out a short job at their home when the lived in Kent, hadnt realised who they were until I was about to leave, totally unassuming and warm thanks for the memories
Thanks for this. It was a really nice view into the world of this trio. You say it was a tragic ending, but it was also a very heart-warming story of love and friendship.
