Deanna Tikhonov WHNP-BC breaks down what the mini pill is and how effective it is. Ever heard of the "mini pill" but not sure how it works? Wonder if it is as effective as the regular birth control pill? Recently had a baby and wonder why you were given a different birth control pill?
Today's video is an overview of the "mini pill" or progestin only pill. In this video I discuss why someone would start the mini pill and how it needs to be taken in order to be effective.
As a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner I am here to provide ladies with the education we need about our bodies, our birth control options, changes that occur in pregnancy, and everything there is in between that us females go through!
As a lady I get it! There is A LOT of information out on the internet and spread amongst friends & family that is not always true. Anecdotal information is commonly over generalized causing confusion and fear. I am here to help teach you about your body and empower you to play an active role in your health!

I’ll be 40yrs old this year. My hormones have been out of wack: night sweats, cramps, bloating and heavy periods. I’ve been on the mini pill for 3 weeks now and I feel so much better!!
I have been experiencing the same symptoms at the same age so it is very encouraging to hear this as I was just prescribed this medication today! I appreciate your input! 💙
❤❤❤ I just thought it went to mini pill three days ago so far I love it
I’m 38 and haven’t been on bc for a long time. The mini pill is what I’m starting. I’m happier now to see women my age seeing additional benefits.
I had a horrible OB-GYN experience a few days ago in which I tried to have this conversation with her since I struggle with migraines (and have had friends complain in the past). She was so rude/intent on getting me out of there we had NO discussion at all. I mentioned getting frequent migraines (especially around my cycle) and she completely ignored me. I was written off a prescription for the patch and within 24 hours of putting it on got the worst migraine of my life. I am sitting here watching this series in actual tears wishing I had found this before I put something on I didn't want to in the first place - feeling bullied by a doctor who made me feel small and humiliated on the table after making a comment about the tattoo I have for my mother down there. I feel a lot more informed and even though I couldn't get a conversation at the doctor this makes me feel so much better. Going to a new OB-GYN and consulting primary care as soon as I can and asking about this option since I have been diagnosed with chronic migraines for several years now. Thank you so much!
Hi Megan! Oh my goodness I am so sorry to hear you had this experience. That sounds very upsetting. I applaud you for finding someone new. I know it's easy to feel discouraged but not all providers are the same and there are absolutely great ones out there. You know your body best so stand your ground. Sending love xo
I recommend you check out my video that helps you pick the best birth control method for you-ua-cam.com/video/IfiIxDW8QkQ/v-deo.html GOOD LUCK!
@@TheLadysGuide revisiting this video from a year later to say thank you so much for this! After visiting the newer OBGYN I was prescribed the mini pill since I have chronic migraines (often with aura) and it has been so much more pleasant for me than other forms of birth control. I didn’t experience as many negative symptoms like I had with others - such as interfering with my migraines or suicidal thoughts. Having this video a year ago empowered me to advocate for myself and a year later I’m on a birth control method that works for me. Having your series helped me open more conversations with my doctor that I wouldn’t have thought to ask about. Thank you so much, and as someone who’s struggled with estrogen based ones or implants this information was a life saver. Much love ❤️
@@megankeel7363 Oh Megan this is so wonderful to hear!! Thank you for your feedback and taking the time to share your experience a year later. That is my goal with these videos. So happy to hear you are doing well! xoxo
@@megankeel7363 Hi Megan. I also have migraine with aura. :( Most doctors in my area prescribe Yaz (combined pill), what brand of mini pill are you using or have you used?
It works well for Fibroids. Been on it for 9 months and my periodic pain is gone, blood flow is normalized and size of fibroids are stable . But I’m not in favour of taking it forever.
The headaches and nausea along with sadness makes me want to stop the mini pill, I already have migraines. Wow!
I haven't been to the doctors nor can I drive, never was taught how to use the bus either. I also don't want my parents to know. Since I couldn't get my blood pressure checked I went with the mini pill and have it delivered to me descreetly
I was just prescribed the mini pill through Simple Health. I’m using combo birth control right now, so I’m really nervous to switch over.. but also excited to see if it works better for my body!
How’s it going for you?
I love norethindrone and I'm taking it everyday! I was honestly looking for birth control options but this one was a good start for me for now.
Do you still like it? Have you had any side effects? Depression, spotting?
@@mamiiswiing429 Bloating, rashes/itchiness in the skin, mild depression, mood swings and spotting / irregular bleeding may also be one of the effects especially when missing a pill.
@@vellbariaofficial Thank you
@@vellbariaofficial thanks for the update. Do you plan on staying on this pill?
I was just prescribed the mini pill because I was taking the combination pill and it caused to break out in hives. So hopefully this will be a better option for me.
Hi Rachel, ah sorry to hear that happened to you! Hope you have a better experience with the mini pill!
How was it been for you so far?
I have PMDD, PCOS, endometriosis, fibroids, depression, anxiety, and high blood pressure AND migraines with AURA. so..yeah..mini pill it is for me lol
Hi can I ask how u got on with mini pill I also have pmdd
Is this a good pull for women who have had estrogen dominance issues?..also can you reccomend a brand?
I’ve been on the mini pill since 2010. I had been on the combination pill a year prior to that and it made my periods right on the dot every month. I was switched to the mini pill due to being diagnosed with lupus and having a higher risk of clots. The first year my periods were all over the place. Then my periods stopped for about 2 years. Then they slowly came back and became more regular. In the past couple years my periods slowly got more unpredictable and now I have been bleeding for 5 weeks! Sometimes it will stop for a day or two but then it starts again. It is very light, almost like spotting but 5 weeks is a first for me on this pill. I am 41 now so I don’t know if age is part of it or not but can this happen after years of use? Help!
My gyno ran tests and says nothing is wrong to be causing it but I don’t know how to get the bleeding to stop.
Thanks for this video. Just one question, when you said it is suitable 'if you are a smoker and you're over 35'...did you mean 'smokers' and 'women over 35' as separate criteria? Specifically in my case, I am a NON-smoker who is 37, as such would I still fit the criteria for the mini pill?
Great question! My comment is in reference to women who are over 35 AND smoking cigarettes can safely use the mini pill since estrogen containing methods would not be recommended. A non smoker over 35 is also a candidate for the mini pill as well as many other methods.
@@TheLadysGuide Hi, thank you so much for replying so swiftly. Truly appreciated. All the best, Maeve in Ireland
I feel like your right in front of me talking to me 😂 thanks for sharing 🥰
You are so welcome Ava!
Hi, I have PCOS and I have been prescribed the mini pill. I am just wondering if it would help reduce or stop my periods?
Also, if I have continuous bleeding and if I stop taking the pill, will everything just go back to normal? Please advise :)
I was just prescribed the mini pill after refusing an iud. I didn't feel comfortable having that inserted. The doctor said the pill wouldn't be as effective as the iud because it's taken orally and would take longer to get to my uterus whereas the iud is in my uterus. That just didn't sound right to me. Was I right to be stubborn?
Ofc, if there are so many contraceptive options and you don't feel comfortable with I.u.d., why should u do it?!
Hi! So I’ve been on lo lo estrine for about 2 years now, I came off a month ago because I was having weight gain. I came off and haven’t changed anything and I have already lost 10 pounds. I dont like not being on the pill since I am in a relationship and I have been considering the mini pill but I am scared of the weight gain again. Have you found people complaining about weight gain on the mini pill (I eat really well and have an active lifestyle and still gained weight and found it hard to loose wight weight on lo lo estrine)
I’m on the mini pill because it’s the only oral birth control you can take while breastfeeding and yes, I have noticed weight gain and extreme difficulty trying to lose it!
I’m nervous to take my pops now, from what i know, I can’t take a break once i started the pill. My question is, can i take a break from the pill once I finished the pack? Is there any side effects if i do?
I haven't got my period since I'm with the mini pill 😰 I'm now with the 3rd package
Hi Indira, this is very common! If it’s a side effect you do not like I recommend talking to your provider to check your other options.
@InvestigatorM because if you don’t shed the lining it thickens and it can become cancerous like my condition
Did u start the pill when u were on your cycle or on a random day?
Hi, thank you for this video. I've been on the mini pill for 3 months now and my period has not stopped. I keep reading people saying they don't have any but mine keeps coming non stop for 3 months now. It is not the same as normal period but I need to have a pad constantly. It's starting to affect my life negatively so wanted to ask if you know more on that? Would it ever stop with the mini pill and if so how long woukd it take to stop? I am really considering stopping it if it doesn't stop. Thank you and take care.
Hi Anastasia, I'm sorry to hear you are going through this! Unfortunately some women do experience non stop spotting/bleeding while on the mini pill which is a common reason for stopping. Typically by 3 months, the body adjusts and periods regulate but if this is still going on for you, it's reasonable to discuss an alternative birth control method with your provider. Your quality of life is so important!
@@TheLadysGuide Thank you for the reply. Thanks to your advise I have already made an appointment to discuss alternatives. ❤️❤️
I'm not on birth control pills but I'm curious about the reason of spotting or having period when you on mini-pill..cause I'm considering to take POP and I'm watching lot of youtube vids about menstrual cycles and hormone roles but still have lot of questions that i wanna address before making decision to try POP
Hi Erdene Mashbat, the spotting can occur more often with the mini pill because there is only one hormone in the pill and sometimes it does not do the best job at regulating bleeding. It effects everyone differently so it’s not possible to know how you will respond until you try it for at least 3 months.
Please answer. I want to stop my progesterone only pills for 7 days to get a withdrawal bleed. Will i get a withdrawal bleed once stopping this medication for a break?? How long will it take. I’ve been spotting everyday and i would like to have a withdrawl bleed to kind of reset the uterus.
I just got my pills but I’m not sure when I can start taking it. According to the day? For example can i start now or does it need to be on a Sunday
Hi! I was prescribed this pill for 4 days 3 times a day. I was having light bleeding for almost two months. I have PCOS. Does this pill help with regular periods?
My OB-GYN doctor prescribed the errin minipill.
Thank you for this valuable video! I wonder why the minipill is not the first choice treatment even in women without contraindications for the combined one... why not give minipill when it brings less health risks? Could you please explain that? Thank you!
Hi Lucie! Great question! So the mini pill clears the body a bit quicker than the combination pill making it slightly less effective if it's not taken around the same time every day. This is the main reason it's not a first line method.
@@TheLadysGuide Thank you!
lucik1992 you are welcome!
Hello! I started the minipill a month ago and had my period before the first week of starting the first pack and got my period on the last row of the pack. I started a new pack this month and started my period about a week after my last period should I be concerned? It’s light bleeding but still enough to need a pad full time and I have minimal cramping.
I’ve been on it for seven months now my period lasts for 10 days straight and now starting my seventh month I’ve been getting it twice a month I’m so frustrated
@@nicoleyoung8689 girl same! Mine have been irregular but it’s somewhat regular now but I recently stopped the pill..

So my girlfriend took norethindrone pill the august 30th and i looked up how long you have to wait to not use protection and it said 28 days and that be this sunday the 27th and she takes her pill at 2:30pm everyday somethings alittle after should i stop usin condoms or keep using them

Hello. I’ve been on combination pill for 8 years and this last year I’ve developed a histamine intolerance ( migraines, hives, allergic to so many foods) do you think the mini pill would help this problem? I also have endometriosis so If I have to get of the combination pill then I’ll be in a lot of pain. Thank you!
Hey my doctor put me on the mini pill because it’s my first time on the pill and I can’t go into the doctor surgery due to the coronavirus. I’m really nervous about it because I don’t like the sound of not getting my period. How common is not getting your period whatsoever on the mini pill? And how easy would it be to switch to the combined pill if I wanted to?
Hi Abi, It is pretty common to not have a period on the mini pill, but not a 100% guarantee. It's very easy to switch to the combined pill as long as it is safe for you. I recommend maybe finding a different provider, it's important your concerns are heard and you feel comfortable with the method prescribed. Good luck!
i was put on the mini pill but i’m honestly not sure why. the only thing i can think of is maybe the traditional pill interacted poorly with my other medications
Hi, I’ve been on cerazette for nearly 8 months and I’m really struggling with PMS like symptoms, even though the mini pill has stopped my periods. I’m mainly suffering from tender/sore breasts, is this normal after 7/8 months of taking them? I took a pregnancy test to put my mind at rest (these symptoms made me paranoid) and it was negative, so wondering if the pill might be causing these symptoms
Hi Emma, unfortunately it definitely could be. It sounds like you probably have an underlying hormonal imbalance and the pill is worsening things. Connect with me on @_theladysguide on instagram and we can set up a call to discuss your concerns further!
My doctor has just got me onto pop after coming off the other pill as it was no longer save for me to take, I’m a bit confused about this tablet, it doesn’t have sugar pills like the others have, is there a period in time where you can fall pregnant or are you covered the whole time of taking the pill, is there meant to be a period time between starting a new pack ?
Hi Georgia! So you are correct there are no sugar pills. As long as the pill is taken every day around the same time they are effective against pregnancy and it is extremely unlikely for pregnancy to occur. Some women taking this pill get a period, some women will not get a period. It takes about 3 months for the body to adjust and see how you respond to the pill.
Same girl! I've been on the same birth control pill for years now and my blood pressure was high my last 2 gyno visits. She stopped the birth control pills I was on and switched me to these today. Great question! This is literally the question and the answer I was looking for lol. Thanks y'all ❤️
@@BH0889 hey, this is exactly why I was switched from combination pills to the mini pills. Honestly the combination pills were great and I knew exactly when my period was coming but because my blood pressure was high, I was prescribed this mini pill instead. I’m kinda of nervous for how I’ll be affected because I don’t want acne and the thought of irregular periods makes me anxious so hopefully can deal with this blood pressure thing so I can go back to the combination pills. They just work better for me. Not to mention I’m extra anxious with having to take these mini pills every day at same time non stop.
I started it 2 days ago I take it at the same time within 3 hours at night and my doctor told me I should start it because I am sexually active but I still use condoms and I hope it dosent make me get bad skin or cramps because my periods are very bad .
How has it gone so far ?

I’m on the combination pill and my periods aren’t short enough ( get them every 2-3 months). Do I need to switch to this pill?
I’ve been having vaginal dryness form the combined pill, will switching to the mini pill lessen that side effect?
hello Diana! i've had blood clot with combined pill when I was 20 and never smoke, never drink, was super healthy with no disease etc., should I be worried about progestin only pill also be causing maybe... blood clots if im in late 20s now?
You may want some genetic testing. I found out that I’m high risk for DVT (deep vein thrombosis - a type of blood clot) because I have hereditary thrombophilia. My doc now has me on non-estrogen birth control and a blood thinner. I’m not a doctor, but this is just my experience. It might be worth looking into. It’s worth noting that I have not had a blood clot and hopefully never will. Be well!
@@Lady_Katie hi! this is my exact situation, i just found out i have hereditary thrombophilia through 23andme, my family has had several deaths related to blood clots (i’m 20 and never had a blood clot before). I also have pcos so I have been taking combination pills for the past two years (before learning of my inherited disorder). I have been recommended switching to progestin-only pills since they don’t have estrogen. If it isn’t much to ask, what type of birth control are you on? should i also be on blood thinners? I haven’t discussed it with my gynecologist since I found out a couple of days ago and I would like to be informed when I do. I also haven’t gone to a hematologist since I have never had a blood clot, would you recommend going?
i forgot to mention they found a heterozygous mutation in my F2 gene when they tested for hereditary thrombophilia
I've just been changed over from the combined pill to the mini pill to see if it will help with my headaches I have been having. I personally don't think the headaches are related to the pill, however my GP wants to trial it, which I am very nervous about changing. How come it is that the combined pill is offered as a first choice? it has taken me a while to find a pill that I am happy on and I'm concerned about changing this as I don't want to experience mood swings, once or weight gain. Any advice would be great, thanks!
Hi Lauren! Good question! So the combined pill is the first pill typically offered because it is considered slightly more effective then the progestin only or mini pill and is less likely to cause irregular bleeding. However when the mini pill is taking daily at the same time it is just as effective as the combined pill and many people won't experience irregular bleeding on it. Many things can cause headaches, the combined pill being one of them. Many times lifestyle habits (diet, specific foods, caffeine and stress) are big factors leading to headaches as well. I understand why your GP switched you. I recommend maybe trying to have a discussion with her exploring possible causes for your headaches other then the pill. If you receive any push back on this, it might be time to find a new provider. Good luck! For more support you can find me on instagram @_theladysguide.
Same here! Going to start the mini pill this week hope you’re reacting well to it!

I’m 21 years old and I was on the combination pill for 8 years and I switched to the mini pill (I get migraines with aura). I’ve been on that for a year and a half so I don’t get periods anymore. My husband and I weren’t very careful about 3 weeks ago, and now I’ve been having crazy symptoms. Does the mini pill cause a lot of weight gain and acne? I get migranes with aura so I don't have many options, I tried the non hormonal iud twice and my body expelled it which threw away all my hope of being healthy and having normal hormones. The nexplanon scares me as I have read reviews on it causing a lot of weight gain more then the mini pill. I was on the mini pill for about a year and notices acne and weight gain but I worked out and was strict with my diet. I took a break for four months and noticed weight loss and clear skin so it makes me nervous to take the mini pill again but I dont have many choices. I think condoms ruin the mood and I dont enjoy them either. Any thoughts on the mini pill on weight gain and acne?
Hi Han, the foods you eat tend to play a much bigger role on weight gain and acne because they are the building blocks to your hormones. Certain foods help to improve estrogen dominance and increase progesterone levels. I find that when women eat in a way to support your hormones prior to starting a hormonal birth control method, then it tends to work better, avoiding unwanted side effects. It's not about eating strictly but looking at food as hormone medicine. On my instagram page @_theladysguide I share a lot of tips how to balance your hormones.
The Lady's Guide The Lady's Guide I understand. I eat very healthy for my body but maybe I am doing it wrong? I started the mini pill today and I’m worried of how it will effect me. So what you are saying it shouldn’t cause weight gain if I don’t change my diet? And I will look at your insta. I know you have 4 stages during your cycle where the the first two stages is when your estrogen is higher and your metabolism is slower then when u are in your lunar and menstrating phase metabolism is sped up and progestin is increased so you should eat 279 more calories. When I am on the mini pill I don’t get periods so eating for my horomones is impossible because I will have a high level of progestin in my body since that is all the mini pill has in it. So I’m still a bit confused
The Lady's Guide also r u saying you can have normal hormones on birth control?
@@hanmorgan4638 Hi Han, there are many foods that help support your hormonal health whether you take birth control or not. I applaud you for being so in tuned with your cycle! Hi Mackenzie, so sorry you are experiencing that! While irregular bleeding is a common side effect when starting the pill for up to 3 months it’s always best to check in with your provider to discuss your symptoms. Stress can also contribute to this as well.
I have a question? I recently had a uterine polyp because I was having abnormal bleeding they put me on this type of birth control and iron pills because I’m anemic and in two weeks I’m having a hysterectomy! But I’ve recently started taking this pill I’ve only been taking it for two weeks the last few days I have fell out of it dizzy just weird and I felt like this before when I had the IUD so my question is could this be a side effect
Hi Dawn, it is definitely best you check with your provider regarding these symptoms. Typically dizziness is not a side effect of the mini pill. Good luck with your surgery!
The Lady's Guide I was only dizzy one day like vertigo maybe and I just feel out of it like not myself could that be a side effect and I go tmrw to doctors appt
Why is this not the first choice of prescription?
Hey! 😃 is weight gain and acne common?! I am so afraid of these side effects!!! As I deal with ED recovery and I used to have cystic acne that has now been dealt with!! I’m feeling so much better, but now I’m getting worried about starting! Thanks so much! ❤️
Hi Amanda! Those side effects are not common with the mini pill. Living a healthy lifestyle also goes a long way to avoid weight gain and acne no matter what birth control method you choose. Your welcome
I'm just turning 40 and having irregular period with short luteal (3-4 days of brown spotting before heavy flow which lasts 2-3 days and then spot for 3-4 more days until disappear) phase for last couple of years and thinking about to go on mini pills cause i have some symptoms of estrogen dominance but haven't conformed with doctor..Does mini pills help regulate hormone imbalance?
Hi Erdene Mashbat, great question! No it really does not. Using birth control to ‘regulate hormones’ is really a temporary band aid solution. If your goal is to regulate your hormones, focusing on lifestyle changes is definitely a more long term solution.
Are there any benefits to taking a progesterone only pill? My doctor prescribed me the mini pill and I’m not sure why.
Hi Cass, as discussed in the video, the mini pill is usually prescribed for those who cannot use estrogen or recently had a baby and are breastfeeding. I recommend asking your doctor why it was prescribed specifically for you, it’s so important to have open communication with your provider!
Joined simple health. They are giving me Norethindrone. From the information is something like the mini pill your talking about. Before this I was taking depo and nexplanon. Is this correct for me?
Hi Sofia, yes Norethindrone is the mini pill. Without knowing any of your medical history I cannot determine if this is correct for you. It seems like you have taken progestin only methods in the past. I recommend checking in with the provider who prescribed your medication if you have any concerns about the pill :)
How did the Norethindrone pill go? are you still taking it?
I'm planning to get on the mini pill. I'm currently breastfeeding for the past 3 months. Does it lower milk supply?
Hi Gigi Roman, good question! No it does not. That’s why it is usually the one recommended to start with while breastfeeding. It also helps that you’ve already been breastfeeding and have established a good milk supply 😊
Been taking for 3 months now and I haven’t gotten my period, and also because I breastfeed! Only spotting! Before the pill I’d have really heavy periods and long too!! I have lost some weight with the pills but broke out 😏
Hi Dulce, yes when women breastfeed and are using the mini pill it is common not to have much bleeding. Unfortunately acne could occur with hormonal birth control.
@@TheLadysGuide good to know, it’s new for me so I am confused! Thank you 🙏🏻
Does this mini pill cause weight gain???
This pill doesn't cause blood clots right? I'm on it and kinda scared
Hi Yessica, since this is a progestin only pill blood clots are extremely unlikely as they are associated with estrogen containing birth control methods.
Some people have a genetic condition called “Factor Five Leiden” which puts them at greater risk for blood clots. If you have that condition and take birth control pills containing estrogen you are in danger. You can ask your doctor for a Factor Five Leiden blood test.
I get migraines but not with aura but pill vlub subscribed the mini pill, why?
It's my first time taking mini pill (noriday) but I'm scared because some people said it can cause cancer and acne breakout..is it true?
Hi Lulu, unless you are at high risk for certain cancers the mini pill is not known to cause cancer. Any hormonal method can sometimes trigger acne but there are many other factors that contribute to acne as well. Check out my instagram @_theladysguide for more info :)

Is a condom still needed for the mini-pill to prevent pregnancy?
@@asmrdreams6397 Hi there :) A condom would provide extra reassurance against pregnancy and also protects against STDs but is not needed to prevent pregnancy if you are taking the pill daily at the same time.

My dermatologist put me on isotretinoin for severe acne and I was wondering if the mini pill will still be effective on this drug. I’ve seen so many mixed reviews and info on whether or not it still works with this medication.
I'm also interested in this! I'm on tretinoin. And if this is the case, are there any retinoids that don't interact with Slynd?
I really liked the combination pill. No acne, no periods, no weight gain. Will I have the same reaction with the mini pill?
Hi Colleen, the mini pill affects everyone differently. Some continue to not have a period, others experience irregular bleeding. Acne and weight gain are typically not reported. It's best to discuss your concerns with your provider as well.
Hiya, I'm being prescribed the mini pill because my periods are heavy and very irregular. I also have some acne that makes me feel insecure. Will the mini pill help with the acne?
Hi there, it may help but there's many other things that effect acne including stress and diet. It's really important to address these things first as they provide a long term solution to helping get rid of acne for good and not relying on birth control.
I've stopped taking my combination birth control pills for about 2 days now due to migraines. I'm debating on if I want to try the mini pill, or let my body do it's own thing and use condoms as our contraception method
try camila mini pill thats what im on and its great its called camila
How does it work ? What are the risks taking this pill ?
Hi Mikela, it works by altering the endometrial lining, thinking the cervical mucous and preventing ovulation. The risks involve the side effects that may occur which is different for everyone.
Now I'm rethinking this, I requested the mini pill because other combo pills lowered my sex drive. Now I'm thinking I should find another one. Help
Hi Krystle, unfortunately synthetic hormone birth control methods can lower sex drive. Everyone responds differently to this side effect depending on the method. Check out my video on IUDs which have the least amount of hormones or none at all and are 99% effective at preventing pregnancy. ua-cam.com/video/WlnGG0eLji0/v-deo.html This may be a better option for you.
I use the minipil for endometrioses. But i still have a bleeding like menstruation but only lighter. I hate that.
Hi Rosalie, yes unfortunately the mini pill doesn't always control bleeding well. Many other lifestyle factors also effect endometriosis like the foods you eat and your stress level. I work with clients both in person and virtually to help improve painful periods and symptoms of endometriosis. Many times when these things are modified endometriosis symptoms improve.
I’m on norethindrone the mini pill and skipped a period. Currently breastfeeding but still took some pregnancy tests and were negative. But I’m currently cramping and nauseous. Is this normal?
Hi Jasmin, yes this is common to not bleed on the mini pill. Particularly if you just started the pill some cramping and nausea can occur. If this persists check in with your provider.
@@TheLadysGuide thank you for replying. Yes I just started two months ago.
I also wanted to add that I took antibiotics (macrobid) for a uti two weeks before missed period. Does that lower the affect of the pill?
@@jasminw6092 antibiotics only lower the effectiveness if you experienced diarrhea or vomiting while taking it which can speed up the clearance of the mini pill from your body.
Could it be Noriday mini pill making my breast get bigger?. Xx
Hi there, it's possible due to the hormones and every body responds a bit differently to synthetic hormones.
I missed one mini pill on the 2nd to last day of my period and had unprotected sex within days of that where my husband did not ejeculate inside me. What are the chances of pregnancy?
Hi there, while pregnancy is unlikely taking a test two weeks later is helpful to be absolutely sure.
why is it not the first choice?
Hi Kiona! Because it is slightly less effective than the traditional combination pill and irregular bleeding is more common making it the second choice typically among providers.
Can i take my mini pill even it’s not my first day of period
Hi Emlyn, the mini pill can be started any time as long as there is reasonable certainty that you are not pregnant.
@@TheLadysGuide thank you so much for replying ♥️♥️♥️
I’m so confused . I have PCOS my OBGYN prescribed me these pills... I told him I want to get pregnant and I have irregular periods. So how is this supposed to help me ? Lol #HELP
Hi Carina! I highly recommend you check out my instagram @_theladysguide, send me a DM and we can chat. Also check out my video on PCOS here: ua-cam.com/video/VhA6hvsiwe0/v-deo.html Birth control is not the answer to treat PCOS, it's simply a band aid solution but there are ways to manage it and help improve your fertility!
Has anyone heard of the mini pill increasing fat on the glutes and chest area
Is it normal for your period to be late also I told a pregnant test and it came back negative
Hi Keonna, particularly when starting the mini pill periods can be irregular. Sometimes over time, bleeding may stop all together the longer you use the mini pill. While it's always best to take a pregnancy test with any bleeding changes, with a negative test it is reassuring that you are not pregnant.
Okay because I been taking my pills for 3 months and I only miss on time. And when I did that I bleed for a week could have that been a period
@@Keonna828 Yes if the pill is skipped or taken late this can cause irregular bleeding.
@@TheLadysGuide ok thanks so much
@@TheLadysGuide one more thing normal how long would it take for your period to come on
I was taking mini pills every time am going to have sex since am not living with the man I dnt take it everyday but I tested pregnant is it possible
Is there any chance of getting pregnant in this pills
Hi Njan, like with any birth control method, if not taken correctly then there is a chance of pregnancy.
I smoke weed is that considered a smoker 😂
Hi Bianca, it is the nicotine within cigarettes that increase risk for blood clots and stroke, not marijuana.
@@TheLadysGuide what about caffeine? Does this apply to any stimulant or just nicotine specifically?
No cigarettes but occasional vape pen which I think is nicotine based.. does that count? Sorry for all the questions, I just found your channel and I love it so far; thank you for your insights🙏
@@youtube6817 Hi there, no, caffeine does not impact birth control. Vaping would be included with cigarette smoking and is not recommended.
@@TheLadysGuide thank you for your response🙏 Sorry for all the questions but I am afraid of bc pills because of the side effects: no periods/or irregular, weight gain, depression etc and I believe a lot of women are having infertility issues because of it.
Is there a pill you could recommend I should look into? (based on these qualms I have) also, I’m not a heavy user whatsoever with the vape pen, more
Like here and there If it even matters.. I otherwise don’t smoke or drink and am very fit. (Runner, Weigh lifter)
I’m also interested in Paraguard iud but heard the insertion is very painful.. 😓any thoughts ? I need to get on something soon and “doctor shopping” right now. Thanks again ☺️
If you take the pill after the 3 hour mark how is it so easy to get pregnant? Does your body just sense some change and drop an egg? Lol.
Hi Hannah [B] , good question! The mini pill clears your body in about 24 hours time so that is why taking it at the same time daily is very important. If the medication is not within the body, it’s possible ovulation could occur and if unprotected intercourse has happened during that time then pregnancy is possible.
