Always loved this film the older version from 1966, Michael Caine was superb for the part of Alfie,as he was born in London and a cockney I think,so he was totally suited to this role, this is my favourite of his movies, amazing actor
Not a cockney. He was born in South London. A true Cockney is born within the sound of the Bow Bells from St Mary Le Bow Church. Although most people from East London are considered Cockneys.
A gem of a film that is still 100% relevant today. Also valuable as a look at the way our parents (if you are aged 40-50) used to live. And one of Michael's best performances!
Calling women "it" seems a bit strong now but poor old Alfie gets his comeuppance. It's actually a very radical film for 1966. We woz cutting edge back then.
I'm an American in my 50s and have not watched many movies over the years, especially those churned out by Holly wood. This film amazed me when I watched it so many years ago. I rented it and watched it with my son when he was a teenager, about 10 years ago. He was so very impressed by it too. We love how the story begins and ends with the little stray dog. "Alfie" 1966 is truly unique among films and what an excellent actor Michael Caine has always been!
Yes it’s pretty unique, funny on one level but brutal on another. As a teenager in the 70s, before discovering that women were human beings, I found it outrageously hilarious, until the end which was sordid, squalid and depressing. A cautionary tale, you might say,
Indeed! This film reminds me of many many good times when I lived in Cambridge, where I saw it and enjoyed it. That WAS fun. How lucky we were to live in that golden period of the 20th century: future had a future then...! The new version is a pale copy of "that special atmosphere" gone for ever. The "plot" has never changed however!

I saw this film for the first (& only time until now) when I was in secondary school. It broke me up. I survived it better this time. Many years later. How sensitive we are when we are young. We usually have no idea. But seeing this again, I recall all the terrible moments for me then. They are still terrible, but abit muted , w a glint of humour slipping through the cracks left by the breaking. I didn't recall the film being so moralistic either, altho' What's it all about? is THE question all right.
Yeah, it hurts, especially as a young man, It shatters your perception of what relationships and love are, it's a huge dose of realism and the true human nature of both men and women. That's why this movie is brilliant. One must face the realities of life instead of running away from them.
Caine is brilliant in this role; Denholm Elliot as the abortionist and the blokes who play Humphrey and Lily's husband are also fantastic. British realism at its best.

It is now 2024 and Maurice Mickelwhite( Michael Caine is still hanging in there at age 91. Graham Stark plays Humphrey. Two years earlier he was in the second Panther film “A shot in the Dark1964. Graham was a favorite of Director/, Writer Blake Edwards. He would appear in Edwards classic “ Victor and Victoria”” Julia Foster or Millicent Martin in 1966. Bloody difficult choice. ?????
I went into Blockbuster and asked if they had the original 'Alfie' and the guy said "duuuuuuhhh, there was an original? duuuuuhhh" Really, that's what he said.
ok, we know the soundtrack was by Sonny Rollins, Stan Tracey was on piano, who improvised "Little Malcolm Loves His Dad" (although never credited), Rick Laird on bass, Phil Seamen on drums, Ronnie Scott on tenor sax. Anybody knows who was on guitar?
The movie that is taking place is the date July 22-31, I think, I not good at the setting. I good at the setting almost. The movie is quite good, it is sometimes dark most of the time.
What a dreadful shame, the virtues of Alfie's flawless character aren't promoted in the classrooms of the higher eduction establishments of today. What a much happier world it would be.
If you like this film, you'll like Natalie Wood, Steve McQueen "Love with the Proper Stranger (1963). With the coming of the pill, and penicillin, things have turned full circle. The woman still ends up with the mansion and Ferrari, if she isn't a Merry Widow. It's a dog's life for a man. Better to me eunuched at birth than be lead by the chopper.
Loved the movie Alfie in the 60’s and this is the first time I’ve watched it again in over 50 years. Michael Cain is still an excellent actor!

Ahh, the good ole days of UA-cam, where there's 100 ten minute videos
Lol shit. Remember that?😂
Annoying little bloke that Alfie..😂😂
This is my jam

I lived my life like this for years n years...❤🇬🇧
A genius at work. All actors listen ,watch and learn.
Michael Caine - perfection always!!!!
Should have a jazz soundtrack for all movies. It takes a classy movie and makes it classy squared!
One of the best movies from the so called swinging sixties - and swing it does from the very first frame.
Love it..... "Enough's as good as as feast". Fabulous, one of my all time favourites......🏴
my god he's so young, im not used to seeing him look like that its weird haha. awesome, one of my fave actors
The lockdown is making us nostalgic to the good old days.
You took the words right out me glum mug :(

Were you sleeping with other men's wives as well?
What a soundtrack!
Sooo crazy to think that’s Michael Caine, he was for sure beautiful when he was younger 😍
This is a classic ..great upload
Loved the film, especially that there's no Hollywood style attempt to demonstrate any total transformation in Caine's character. He is what he is.
Alfie and The Italian Job are, Caine's, best films in my book.
My dad worked on both movies

unpopular opinion - i like both Alfie movies, i think they suit the times in which they are both made
素敵な音楽!観客に語りかけるのも好き。
"You get one of them laughing and you wont get nothing else" - the friend zone
That's not true! I've made lots of girlfriends laugh!

She's a cracking little standby.
pix046 😂
Much better than the Remake!
One of my favorites.
"C'mon now, enough's as good as a feast!" No one says them like our Michael.
The Kinks wrote the song "dandy" on face to face album after watching this film
mmm. not sure about that one...it was written about his brother
Michael Caine as a bad boy...WHOA! I love it though!

Also, Shelley Winters, Vivian Merchant, Jane Asher, Eleanor Bron........
They're all perfect in their roles. I tried watching the pathetic remake and lasted about 7 mins.

Alfie, some lad with all them birds,& doing unspeakable things with them. Hello, hello
With Sonny Rollins on the soundtrack!
I went into Blockbuster and asked if they had the original 'Alfie' and the guy said "duuuuuuhhh, there was an original? duuuuuhhh" Really, that's what he said.
Continual breaking of the forth wall - but, hey, it works!
Thanks ever so much!
sorry jude but there is only one alfie: MICHAEL CAINE
Jude did a great job
Jude is my Alfie. Bleeeh
👍🔥bagus

Great Michael Caine!
thank you so much!!
I adore Michael Caine.
me too!
never saw it, not even the remake. but im convince that it would be good, after all, Micheal Caine is a great actor.
Thanks for that movie :)
I...I need subtitles, honestly.
Turn ‘em on then
i dont. learn the lingo
@@saulmarinoni1274 It's not the words, it's the accent

Gilda made the right choice later with Humphrey. Alfie isn't the loyal type.
The typical case of giving wife privileges to bfs.
The July calendar is for the year 1967.
“you get a lot of his sort Chelsea supporters” …so funny!
Where's Mick and Keith's corner shop?
I'm here coz of MR. Sonny Rollins!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dear Hollywood,
Please stop remaking the classics.
Thanks.
I second that!
Anyone came here because of Tom Torero's book 'Street Hustle'?
He still has a good accent
Rock band Web, I Spider album ... "You can keep the good life." Sounds like a tribute to the film. 🤔
'all the more reason to do em!' proper eastender lol
I thought he was talking about married women.. then realized it's a quote from Alfie talking about fiddling the cash till.
09:35
Millicent Martin was in Mrs.
Palfrey at the Clairmont
Alfie was a bastard!
Love Michael Caine.
THANK YOU!
Oh wow! Awesome! Thanks!
Was this the first film where the main character talks to the camera?
09:14 Anyone can tell me why Tuesdays and Fridays are printed in red?
Gilda, like most women, tracks her menstrual cycle on a calendar.
Isn't there a full version of this film
The 2000's remake with that pretty boy Jude Law was terrible. Just like the Wicker Man remake (I consider a disaster).
Christopher Gullo Although I do like like Jude Law, did the same demolition job in the crap remake of Sleuth
I agree Christopher. As well, Michael Caine OWNED the part of Alfie. I don't want to hear Alfie's words come out of another actor's mouth.
I didn't like the 2004 remake I prefer the michael Caine version
Alfie as a movie character is amusing....an Alfie in real life would be a POS dog........
Jude laws version was fine
Es la segunda vez que veo, Jude law interpreta u. Papel de Michael Caine.
Michael Caine es el Jude law del pasado ❤
0:33 OMG Night London at 1966
Swinging London's most loveable shit!
I am looking for the stage script for this play (yes it was a play before a movie) does anyone know where i can get a copy?
Compare to Five Easy Pieces (1970), starring Jack Nicholson and Karen Black.
The movie that is taking place is the date July 22-31, I think, I not good at the setting. I good at the setting almost. The movie is quite good, it is sometimes dark most of the time.
Wow. That's Daphne's mom in Frasier. Damn

Watch him in Zulu. Whole thing on UA-cam ....
What a dreadful shame, the virtues of Alfie's flawless character aren't promoted in the classrooms of the higher eduction establishments of today. What a much happier world it would be.
Jude Law was good on the remake and the overall movie was good but i don't know why remakes (of good films) never quite make it for me.
@pame2584 of course, far sexier than Jude Law will ever be
harsh acting charactor though lol nice guy in rl
exquisite
Still in " wonderful condition . "
8:58 a doll!
Only came here because of Sonny Rollins
Brutal. Absolutely brutal. I'm referring of course to the theme song.
Caine. The Red Pill.
Ah the 60s when Men ruled Stan Smith
i never knew that theres alfie in 1966. wow
@rocknrolla379 I've met him :D he's wonderful!

I've seen both films. I don't really see s correlation but they're both great.
Um, bin don, we were meant to work together, not one dominating another.
That's Daphne's mom!!! Does that mean, that perhaps Daphne's dad, is indeed Alfie????? O.O
Best Michael Caine film 😂
its too bad for him. He f'd up a relationship with sienna!!!!
@pame2584 he was indeed :)
Classic film about an inhuman womanizer who keeps back alley abortionists happy. The soundtrack is bright and cheerful as well.
caine is my hero
@goddamnsaint HE'S NOT DEAD
Alfie's name is short for Alfred.
+Matthew Smollen
Or it is a longer version of Alf.
On wikipedia it said Michael Caine as Alfred "Alfie" Elkins.
No kidding.
No kidding !
Matthew Smollen or Alfredo if you're Italian
I'm like Alfie, except I don't sleep with women. Fear of intimacy and fear of the inquisitive looks to get to know me better.
NO SUBTITLES!...REALLY....YOU DON´T MIND DEAF PEOPLE??.... YOU´RE MEAN!!!
