I'm with you. I think the deer froze because of so much fear so he didn't move anymore which could also be a behavior to save his own life like "if I don't move meybe he couldn't see me. Humans love to project something into animals that we see as human behavior.
Back in January 2023 my Dad & I were headed out early on a Saturday morning 4 a job. We kinda live off grid & when we drove down our road we saw a spike that got 1 of its back hoof stuck on the highest wire on the barbed wire fence. We assumed that it got stuck over night & we stopped, got outta my Dad’s truck, eventually got the deer untangled, & got back in the truck. When we got back in the truck the deer was so exhausted that it laid down in the field, watched us drive off, & I assume that it was grateful. I’ll never forget that experience. 💯
The deer asked to move into the man’s apartment. The man gladly accepted and the deer shared his list of favorite movies with the man. The man went to Redbox and picked out a few DVD’s. The deer was so happy, he went to the store and bought snacks for movie night.
I’m pretty sure that was a trap he set for a different animal… he had the wire cutter on him out in the woods in the middle of winter, still nice he let the dear go but I’m pretty sure it’s cause your not supposed to snare dear! 😅

Camo reality #1 - All those nifty different shades of green on your real to nature camo - they see them as a shade of yellow. Reds also appear as a shade of yellow. Blaze orange appears as a shade of gray. Browns are less distinctive.

Actually it was more like a teenager, this roe buck would’ve been born at least the previous spring if not the one before, with an expected life span of 7/8 years in the wild

There's three possible reactions a wild animal has to a threat. Fight, Flight or Freeze, when the dear realizes it cannot flee, or fight, freeze is all that's left. This is why that's a GREAT thing for the animals.

Two weeks later, another similar man was walking thru the forest. Same deer now wanted to thank him and came up to nuzzle. Hunter went POW!
