While the Governor's true evil colors where unbeknownst to the residents of Woodbury, the Saviors are very much aware how Negan is like, and they fear him. The Governor was a politician, Negan is an emperor.
Negan genuinelly took a liking to Carl and seemed to be trying to groom him like a prodigy, him being Rick's son is probably a bonus too, taking him and making him his own son. Carl has a dark side but has come through it after the prison. Negan killed my boy Glènn and is messed up on how he sees things but has a weakness for kids, especially one like Carl. Carl's punishment was an actual song.
@Bita Bishopp U mean tried to lol...I know, people tend to forget that he actually was gonna kill him. Even Negan forgot because he says he would never kill a kid after carols let him out.
@Bita Bishopp Erm..Yeah he definitely was..He felt like he had no choice and wanted to break Rick. Didn't matter at that time, how much he would love a son like Carl.
*Fun(ny) fact: I saw on Talking Dead that JDM wanted Olivia to really slap him for the real effect; however, she slapped him so hard it really startled him! After the take, she said, “Are u alright?” and he and the crew just laughed 😆
I enjoyed this Negan centric episode. We get to see just how sadistic, egotistical, and narcissistic he really is. Combine this with his natural charm, and understanding of human nature, and you get a very bad and dangerous guy. He looks at someone and figures out how to use them for his own ends. It's interesting that he sees something in both Deryl and Carl, that he respects. Probibly, because everyone else is too afraid of him to ever dare do resist. I loved duo's observation in that one scene that everyone in the room hates him. Yet they don't dare try anything.
This episode is defo one of my favorites of the season, Carl being a young badass who doesn’t back down and gunning down some Saviors and great moments with him and Negan
When Negan dug his bare toes into the carpet I couldn't help thinking about what Joe the Claimer said; "There's nothing sadder than an outdoor cat thinks he's an indoor cat!"
Negan is a master manipulator. He’s charming and charismatic, but he’s cold and calculating. He’s a snake with two heads. He’s got a twisted sense of what he believes is the true path. He’s an interesting character to watch cuz you hate him but you can’t keep your eyes off of him.
Even when unexpected shit happens, Negan’s ability to re-assess situations and stay calm is really quite impressive. Even though this wasn’t supposed to happen he still knows exactly what he’s doing.
Negan is definitely my favorite character on the show, what he did with Glenn and Abraham was horrible and I hated him, but he's such a charismatic character, combine that with him being a psychopath and you have an amazing character, very well written.
He's probably my favorite too, just because he might be the most interesting character. I really love Carol though, they might be tied for my favorite.
Could you imagine if Abraham was still alive how great a one on one convo he and negan would have? Those two have the best one liners in the whole show. It's a shame we never got to see it.
I love this episode. I’d been wanting those scenes with Negan and Carl and was so happy to see them. Negan always makes me laugh because he’s so inappropriate. Steve’s face at Negan’s dialogue = like he didn’t want to laugh but couldn’t help it 😆😆 The bit with Negan and Fat Joey was so stupid and funny and when Negan said that part about a bat not having a 🐱 and then Steve looking puzzled at his own Lucille 🤣🤣🤣
When she slapped him, I was like "Are you crazy?! The last person who hit Negan in the face ended up wearing a yellow vest and spending time on Easy Street!"
There is something so unabashedly charming about Negan, that I can't help but love. He plays the role of self-aware asshole so well. His quips, his use of psychological torture, as well as his physical threat, makes him a man to be reckoned with. Carl was also great this episode. Negan succeeds in breaking him, but just for a moment. "Future Serial Killer" Carl is right back to his old self, real quickly. Negan recognizes talent when he sees it. Daryl, Carl, and Rick. I also have to give props to Father Gabe. That was a wonderful little speech he had with Spencer. As always, great reaction and discussion. I eagerly await future installments. Until then, keep on keeping on.
I forgot how hilarious Negan's lines are in this episode. Still, it is a scary episode because you just can't trust Negan around Carl and Judith. The fact that Rick and Michonne both have no idea what's going on at Alexandria at the moment is even scarier. Great reaction!

I remember thinking back to the first time I saw him put her on his knee on the front porch "The most dangerous man in their world, falling in love with the most innocent one". Negan is very complicated...Great reaction you two.
That's the thing with negan hes all charismatic one minute then threatening the next you never know if it's just mind games or at moments he is actually being genuine. Which is why I'd say he is more unpredictable then the governor.
A good fair amount does get to happen this episode. You see more of how the Sanctuary works with Negan in terms of his wives, how he punishes his own men, and a little more tension between him and Dwight. And also his interactions with Carl, Olivia and Judith are opening things up. Because at one point, he comes off like he is enjoying tormenting everyone around him, but Carl kind of does something that makes him stop himself almost in a "I'm having too much fun" kind of way.
Negan sure is something. Gosh I really hate this guy. And when he took Judith in his arms I was like, " Oh hell no!". Angry at Negan, scared for Judith and upset with Carl that all of this could've been prevented had he not gone off to do a solo mission. And I agree that the Alexandrians should've at least talked out their frustrations to each other and at the same time I understand that they feel they can't do that because of Rick, who's given up on doing any retaliation against Negan for fear of losing more people. Oh and how can I forget Spencer. I don't like what he's saying or what he's thinking. Father Gabriel told him straight up he's a tremendous shit and rightly so. This guy wishes Rick dead. I cant stand Spencer. Thus is such a mess. Smh.
@Yvette Rodriguez Hey my friend :) Great to see you!! I agree with you completely about Spencer. I haven't liked him since he opened the door for Sasha at the welcome party for our family. He's small , just like Rick said, and he is weak and a coward. He wouldn't even go in the walls with Morgan to help his own people when the wolves were attacking. And at the time he refused to go in he had no idea if his mother was in there or not. He is a shit, just like Father Gabriel and you said lol. And a coward lol l
@@amyfender1 What up Amy! Great hearing from you again. Thanks for the comment. Spencer is so unlikeable. Which is why I like where the writer's will be taking his character next. At this point, I feel it's necessary. Wish Rosita gave him that same stern talk that she gave to Eugene. Spencer isn't useful. All he's been doing is whine and complain. StilI ticks me off in the scene where he has the nerve to be upset at Rick for being in his home instead of being concerned for Olivia who almost DIED. And you're right. Fool didn't even want to help his own community during the Wolf invasion. Smh. Anyways, hope you have a wonderful Sunday Amy. See you on the next episode. PEACE!
gravityprone part 2 - Not at first. I began to really like his character during the episode where the group storms the satellite outpost. I admit I laughed at his second response when Rick asked him about why he still wears his priest clothes. Gabriel gave the response I was expecting about still being who he was, but the tack on response of, “It’ll make it harder for them to see me in the dark,” cracked me up. Then there was the scene with him with a rifle on the older injured Savior. The old guy is threatening him and he’s citing Bible verses before shooting him, and ending with an, “Amen,” afterwards.
I wanted Gabe to die SO MUCH in season 5! Especially once he "turned Rick in" to Deanna. But that's one of the things that TWD does best. Take characters and flip 'em. Or at least show another side to them. I was completely abhorred by Merle in season 1. But I grew to enjoy him 3, and right when I felt he finally got some great character development and a chance at redemption they killed him off. Some people bitch about TWD having a formulaic quality to it; I love it. Feels like they take the chance to correct mistakes made first time around.
Comic Comparisons : Everything That happens in the Sanctuary (Negan’s compound) is almost line for line scene for scene ripped straight from the comics Everything was done so well Carl lighting up Saviors the iron scene Carl unwrapping his face the singing In the end Negan does go to Alexandria but not the way it is in the show. In the comics Negan hands Carl back to Rick unharmed Negan comes back in a few days to collect his offering. The scene with Rosita and Eugene doesn’t happen in the comics.
I didn't notice it at first, but have you seen that Eugene has his mullet back? If tying his hair signified Eugene's status as a survivor, him putting it back to a mullet might actually show he's regressed to being a coward after Glenn and Abraham were killed.
I don't expect you to believe this part but Negan does have a soft spot for kids. When Negan was with Carl, he realized he couldn't scare Carl with the fear of death the way he could with Rick or other adult survivors. Carl is a child of the apocalypse, he's been molded to not be as fearful for his own life. Negan's next best choice is to attack essentially Carl's pride, the first strike was making fun of his eye, but then he realizes that he's picking on a kid and making him cry, something that without context is seemingly in disapproval of. Instead he chooses another form of humiliation by making him sing a song.
With Amber, she married Negan so her mom could have the medicine she needed and so she and her mom could be off of the point system and live more comfortably. So when he told her she was welcome to go back to Mark she wouldn't be harmed by Negan, but she would be back to working for every green bean she ate and for every pill her mom needed to survive. She chose the easier life.
I find it funny that Spencer fancies himself a leader as if it's an inherited trait. Leaders influence others. Inspire them to do what needs doing. He can't get anyone to turn against Rick. I've known officers like that in the Navy. Sad.
After singing I almost imagined Carl saying „no my Dad turns it up in the car“ after Negan asked If his mother used to sing that to him 😂👌🏻 would’ve been such a troll moment right there
Loved it. Great episode. Jeffrey was fantastic in this episode. Negan is awesome but in this episode you are like really dude? And him holding Judith was like omg and kinda cute. He is crazy but he would never hurt a baby. Spencer is an ass. And I just hated him at this point, father gabriel was amazing as well, telling spencer off. After this episode aired I heard a lot of complaints regarding the iron. The CEO of AMC told them to cool it with the gore/nastiness.
Funny how everyone says they hate Negan. I love Negan he’s such an interesting character. Think about it, no one even blinked, must less cried when they gunned down the saviors in their sleep or threatened to take over Alexandria. But people hate Negan for “reciprocating” what Rick and the group did to his people by only bashing the heads of *two* of them!😂
I agree. 💯 Doesn't have anything to do with Rick&co., no spoilers. Just the back story on Negan. I devoured that thing so fast. Gave me a little different look at the man.❤️🧟
@@ellereacts528 Ok. The Here's Negan comic was the first TWD comic I read. I got the rest in the 4 Compendiums. I dropped those on my bad foot a few times. Ouch!
@@leila7132 Same here. But I like the JDM version better. He's charming. Have you seen pictures of his farm on Twitter? I follow his Twitter account. One of their pet ducks is named Norman!
The ultimate power play and show of dominance would be to take Rick's children away. Not by force, but to have Carl (and baby Judith) go with him and start to see him as their father figure.
People can despise Negan all they want, I've seen plenty of reactors of TWD unable to resist the Negan quote on quote "Charm" lol (Gotta thank JDM for that love him lol)
Seriously, Narcissistic Personality Disorder! Look it up! I'm sad to say I was in an 8 year relationship with someone like this... They have the ability to make you feel like crap, be scared, but feel awesome all at the same time. The dominance and confidence is really nothing more than a show, a show to cover up insecurity and trauma...The wives (plural indeed) show the inabilaty to actually really connect to any one person, and the kneeling everyone has to do shows the fear of being left alone. But they kneel out of fear, because that's the only way he knows to keep people from leaving him without having to show his more vulnerable side... Knowing this disorder really helps you understand a person like Negan. Like I said before: not a bad person at core, but seriously messed up.
Negan is a sociopath who pretends to feel things. On the inside, you've already seen how screwed up he is, but he keeps up an act of humor even though it's obvious that its more of an act. Obviously there are things I'm not saying because I think the intent of this season is to show this one side of Negan.
@@peach5438 I wasn't talking about that, I was referring most of the times he usually acts happy or comes up with his dark jokes. I should've been more specific sorry for the confusion.
@@leila7132 Socially speaking, it's the people who act the happiest that are the most empty on the inside, they're putting everything in a performance in order to appear that they're the opposite of what they really are.
Negan DOES feel things. Thats the biggest difference between him and the Gov. And all I'll say so I dont say too much for Steve and Lacy's sake is this quote from Hershal: Negan isnt "too far gone" like the Gov was.
@@cindyspangler3982 If that's your perspective, there's not much I can do, but can I tell you my perspective. Negan and Governor are different, but to me you're wrong about Governor not having feelings. It was because of his feelings and more specifically his emotional vendetta that drove him to kill everyone he came in contact with. In my perspective Negan has a level of detachment and chooses to feel only basic emotions for personal reasons.
It's weird with Negan. Out of all the people Rick has felt with. Negan is the only person not to lie or anything. Shane lied, the governor lied, terminus lied, but Negan is truthful. From their first interactions with the lineup, he said he will kill someone and did until someone stepped out of line. I think he's power hungry but unlike everyone except Shane else he has a heart. He always smile and laugh around but as soon as he gets serious he calms down and I actually think he speaks from the heart. When he made Carl cry he didn't laugh or put him down he seems to actually like Carl and tells him to be proud of his eye.
@@russellballard6473 no, if you remimber, he took all the medical supplies. The food was untouched but everything else they took what ever they DECIDED was half. Negan therefore, lied. He also pretty much lied when he acted like he wasn't abusing the wives. And to say that it's not rape, when they can't refuse without dior consequence is also a lie.
@@gravitypronepart2201 Yeah, people want to defend Negan. They like him. Hell, I like him. But he's still the villian in Rick's story. And that's what TWD is, Rick&co.'s story. There's always that what if we'd been following someone who comes up against Rick&co.? Would they have been the villians then? Of course, because that's a different journey. But for the path we're on, Negan is the bad guy. And he did lie. Right off the bat. 😄 He said one week. Then showed up early to get the drop on everyone. As Joe would say; Now that right there, that's a lie.
If Rick was Negan in this episode, the kid would be Dead, and his people. Here Negan humiliates Carl, but he’s fine. You can tell that Negan is better than Rick. (I didnt say Negan was good or not crazy 😅)

Did anyone ever think Father Gabe would turn out to be a good dude? I sure didnt.
gravityprone part 2 - Not at first.
Gabriel went from bein a horrible character to bein one of my favorites. He gets better and better
He is my happiest surprise character change. I love Father G-Man! We didnt think that could ever happen in S4!
@@cindyspangler3982 Gabe first appeared in season 5. 🤗

Hi, Amy.
@@darthken815 hey you :)
Jeffrey Dean does such an amazing job as Negan portraying his character he is such a great actor.
This episode is awesome! This is why in some messed up way I love negan’s character lol great reaction!
I didn't notice it at first, but have you seen that Eugene has his mullet back? If tying his hair signified Eugene's status as a survivor, him putting it back to a mullet might actually show he's regressed to being a coward after Glenn and Abraham were killed.
I know Negan is a total psycho, but lets be honest ... he is amazing this way :D
"You're gonna be lookin funny...uh...water...having water fall out of your body. That didn't work out too well." 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I had to leave that in LOL... he totally effed up that train of thought hahaha ~ Lacey
🤣🤣🤣
With Amber, she married Negan so her mom could have the medicine she needed and so she and her mom could be off of the point system and live more comfortably. So when he told her she was welcome to go back to Mark she wouldn't be harmed by Negan, but she would be back to working for every green bean she ate and for every pill her mom needed to survive. She chose the easier life.
He also met Dwight early in the Apocalypse
yea...i think my bae rosita is pretty desperate and angry at this point. worried bout her
I find it funny that Spencer fancies himself a leader as if it's an inherited trait. Leaders influence others. Inspire them to do what needs doing. He can't get anyone to turn against Rick. I've known officers like that in the Navy. Sad.
I think Steve trying to say is Negan is a person you love to hate him and also hate to love him
After singing I almost imagined Carl saying „no my Dad turns it up in the car“ after Negan asked If his mother used to sing that to him 😂👌🏻
would’ve been such a troll moment right there
12:57
Steve: Jesus
Negan: CHRIST
😂😂
Epic🔥
20:55 Brave or stupid. Last person who hit Negan in the face ended up on Easy Street wearing a yellow vest.
‘Sometimes things have to happen lacey’😂😂😂 Steve man you crack me up so much

Cool!

@@sagespath6112 that is why they won't look until they get caught up
But people hate Negan for “reciprocating” what Rick and the group did to his people by only bashing the heads of *two* of them!😂
I am about 50% more into you now😂

Jeffrey Dean Morgan is incredible as Negan!!
Read the "Here's Negan!" Graphic novel
I agree. 💯 Doesn't have anything to do with Rick&co., no spoilers. Just the back story on Negan. I devoured that thing so fast. Gave me a little different look at the man.❤️🧟
They are not going to read anything pertaining to the characters until they are finished or caught up. Whether they contain spoilers or not.
@@aprilrichards762 I don't do Facebook or Twitter. But I've looked at Norman's and JDM'S Instagrams. Very interesting. Especially Norman's.😂
I felt like Negan was showing Carl who the adult is and who the child is. I think he feels like Carl is lacking in discipline.
Negan actually likes and respects Carl
See this is the problem with Negan u hate him BUT he’s always saying things that make u laugh whether you want to or not
Seriously, Narcissistic Personality Disorder! Like I said before: not a bad person at core, but seriously messed up.
and now we know what happened to dewytes face
Put that damn bat down Steve....lol
Damn, that was hilarious.
That was my favorite part!😆🤣❤️
@@leila7132 Right, but I think Steve is loving it a little too much..lol
@@ellereacts528 👍🤣
So now its Negan & Lacey?
Always a great way to start my day!
15:12 😂😂 for my friend
Negan is a sociopath who pretends to feel things. On the inside, you've already seen how screwed up he is, but he keeps up an act of humor even though it's obvious that its more of an act. Obviously there are things I'm not saying because I think the intent of this season is to show this one side of Negan.
@@peach5438 I wasn't talking about that, I was referring most of the times he usually acts happy or comes up with his dark jokes. I should've been more specific sorry for the confusion.
Plus, why would he have to act like he was happy? He's been King Shit for so long.... what's not to be happy about?
He actually did lie. When he said they would take half. They took more. He lied.
@@gravitypronepart2201 no he took half of their stuff just not the half they wanted. He took half the beds and furniture but didn't touch the food
@@russellballard6473 this is true
A great episode guys. Enjoyed watching the gears of your brains working as you watch this episode. Hate yourself for liking Negan's antics yet? lol

Remember when you both started watching this and I wrote you and told you that a Tribal mentality the strong ruling over the weak. Well this ep. is a prefect example of Tribal Mentality " His wives " and showing off to carl .......This is someone drunk on power and deluding them self.....Steve When negan is asking carl to sing a song it's not random at all ....He breaking Carl and showing him who's in charge not to mess with him and when Negan says sing ...you better sing ...but in a weird way he respected Carl for trying to end it and taking in his own hands....(Negan is thinking 5 steps ahead of anyone else with asking for a song ) ....
