I LOVE this camera!!! It caught 2 burglars in progress. The police had them in perfect view and sent the still pictures out state-wide. Unbelievable!! I would have never expected such a professional, time sensitive camera. It is so valuable! I will purchase 2 more!! THANK YOU!!!

thank you for the awesome production. i purchased a dmzok and it is nothing but horrible to configure. i see someone on one of the comments that you are pinoy, so am i, living in cincinnati ohio. i'm really glad you opened my eyes to this camera. one of the problem i ran into with dmzok, i can't even configure any settings on my iPhone 6s(i know i'm old school haha!!!). it connects when you initially power it up but then once you enter the settings, i.e. to set up time zone, trigger sensitivity, email push notification, etc. every time i access any of these, the camera locks up and the only way to get it to connect to iPhone again is to remove power to it, reboot. i can ptz, use the two way audio, but as soon as i access the settings, it locks up. needless to say, i cannot set it up to notify me when i'm not there, nor record activities when it gets triggered. i've been in contact with the manufacturer for a couple weeks now and there seems to be a bis language barrier. part of setting up is to put in my google email password. i had to give them my email password as much as i hated to give it away, compromising my security. so since i had trouble setting up my iPhone, i started to set it up for my mac. same deal, absolutely impassible. now that you've heard my dilemma, is this yi camera easier than what i'm experiencing? can i use both iPhone and mac to access the yi camera? by the way i will be coming home in december, hence the reason for camera needs. if your in pi maybe we can meet up. thank you again for this awesome awesome video and i'm looking for ward to your reply, or maybe meet up in pi haha!!! salamat po

This was posted 3 years ago and it was great, however they have now changed the app so it's almost impossible to view camera footage on your phone. They are doing everything they can to make sure we have to pay for the cloud service. Any info on that you may have i would appreciate.
Can I set this up in a location that has electricity but no internet? I just want it to record to the SD card. Would I have to adjust the settings when connected to my wifi and then move it? Or can it use my phone's wifi to do the setup?
You do need to have a WiFi to set it up..then you can move it to where you want to monitor. Now, there is only one catch, you need to keep it powered when you move it..either a UPS or a power bank. - ua-cam.com/video/ZLCK3-Vk9UQ/v-deo.html
How much data/GB does it use in one month? If your settings are constant, that is. I'm wondering, if it well work with those small portable internet modems ? Thanks in advance.
If you have the motion detection ON and only record when there is motion, it will upload a 6 second video to the cloud. It stores most of the video footage in the micro SD card. I'm not sure if you will be able to connect it with portable internet modems.
Great Review! Thank you. I have some questions: - Is it okay to have it installed in Africa region? - Can I view the recorded videos on SD card remotely while I'm abroad, i.e. not on the same Wifi? and can I extract them remotely? is there any fees? - Can extract the videos without removing the SD card from the camera? - When I view the videos while I'm on the local wifi where the camera is connected, that will be via the internet or via the wifi network i.e. no fees? Thanks a lot.
Omar Naas - 1. Yes. It should be ok to install in a different country as long as there is Internet. 2. Yes. You can view recorded videos as long as the camera is connected to Wifi and you are connected on the Internet. Fees for the camera- No. But how you get internet in a different country can have associated fees. 3. The only way to download the videos without removing the microSD card is through the app...go to the footage that you want and push the video camera icon to record to your phone. 4. If you are on the same network as the camera...it still has to go through the Internet/wifi.
Nice review! Want to buy one! Can you please tell me if there is any noise coming from the camera motors? I mean, if there is a thief in the room where is quiet, and the camera is moving, can the thief hear the camera moving and be aware that he is filmed? Thanks!
If the room is still and quiet then it can be heard but in my case, there is always some ambient sounds like my fridge motor's humming that it is not noticeable.
Yes, you need to be near an outlet plug and as long as you have a good wifi reception...then you will have no issues. In my case, I actually was running an extension cord in my attic because I have a router setup as an access point and DVR cameras around the area. That is why I was able to just drill a hole in my ceiling and access the outlet from the extension cord. Anyways, I actually have a video of it and I just need to do some editing. I'll put it on my list to upload in the near future. Thanks for the suggestion.
Hi, Thanks for the video! can you please check what is the approximate maximum distance, at maximum zoom, you can identify a person with this camera? Thanks!
Hi wanting to buy this and the outdoor camera. However, I have clarifications regarding connections : 2g vs. 5g . Is this on the phone or my wifi connection?
If you record only to an SD card can you remotely access the video stored on the SD card, or do you have remove the SD card to access the stored video. How much video can be stored on an SD card? If the SD card is full does it automatically start overwriting the old stored videos?
You use the app to view the recorded footage so there is no need to remove the SD card. The camera will loop record which it will over write old footage to record new ones when the SD card becomes full. Video storage on the card depends on the amount of motion.
First thank you for your wonderful review , Second Can I speak with my kids throw this camera ( me in work and kids in home ) can make conversation Thanks
So, you don't have a setup for putting a battery in it? I keep seeing that I need to install a battery to use it while unplugged from the USB. I was planning on using this outside, but can't with it plugged in
Hello. this camera records to a micro sd right? My idea is to set the camera to record every morning while I'm not in home, then to watch in the afternoon the work of my nurse whit my sick wife. how can you watch the stores videos? yo can do it from your phone? or you need to in mount the card?
Yes it records to a micro SD card that you put in the camera. And yes you can schedule the recording and you can watch the videos through the phone via the app; on your PC by downloading their PC app. You don't need to remove the card everytime you want to watch the footage.
Great review! Question: would you spend the extra cash for a 1080p cam or does this one do the job? The 1080p is about $75 more on Amazon. Thanks for the review.
I notice that the power brick has only 2 flat pins, how do I connect with this to get a power supply in Ireland? Which needs 3 pin plugin?is there an adaptor I can use?
I don't know if they are going to ship it with an adapter that will work for your country. Any USB charger adapter should work for this camera.. If you have one for your phone, it should work too.
If you have the micro SD card.. it automatically records when it senses motion..if you turn on notifications it will also record a 6 second clip to the cloud (free) and also notify you.
I heard there were security concerns as the YI app wants to access all administration, etc. info on your phone. Is there a true privacy issue with that and should I be concerned?
I haven't had any issues on mine...once in a while when you open an app..they will offer you an ad (their other cameras or their cloud service) that you have to wait for ~ 3 secs. or just skip it..
Hi, LifeHackster, me again, your new fan. I know that this an old post (I recently watched your evaluation of this selfsame camera after use of 3.5 years), but I wanted to quickly point out that, to my surprise and horror, you made a common error, one that is causing a lot of confusion. The issue is not a difference between 2G and 5G WiFi, but rather between 2.4GHz and 5GHz. The latter refers to frequency used by the router and compatible equipment when connecting to devices with a signal from an internet service provider. This is similar to the difference between AM and FM radio, wherein you cannot receive an AM station on an FM radio, and vice versa. The letter "G" by itself is most often used as an abbreviation for "Generation," as in the current attempt to upgrade our cellular network from 4G to 5G. One more point: you should get a washer with an internal diameter large enough for the power cable and adhere it to the ceiling; it would make the hole you drilled look a bit more finished.
Can you connect to the camera/s trough a computer and save its records in the hard drive? I don´t like the SD card option and paying for the cloud service is a bit too much for me. Thanks!
No you cannot. You will have an option to view the camera in your computer but to manually download the footage, you will still need a cloud subscription.
Maria Aijerry yes, as long as you set up the camera first and it is hooked up to wifi in the Philippines, then you will be able to access the camera in UK.
Hello. A quick question. When I'm trying to play back and save a portion of the video recording is there a way to get the timestamp showing as well ? The video just downloads without the timestamp.
Hi, very nice review and setup looks very easy. Just wondering, if I use this when I will be away from my home for a few months, could I use this? I'll keep the ISP on where the cameras will be on and using their cloud service. I'll have a different ISP in the other state where I will be for a few months. Just want to make sure there are no conflicts. thanks
Yes you can use it. You can have access to the camera anywhere there is an internet connection. You don't have to subscribe to their cloud service. The camera defaults to record to the micro SD card.
Thanks for reply. So am assuming by what you said, I could have it use the micro SD card, get alerts and then monitor footage on it via their app. Also, do I have control of the SD card that I could monitor and delete what I don't want to save memory space via the app while am away? Thanks too, as I have purchased an outdoor and indoor camera after seeing your review.
As to the video on the micro SD card... you cannot delete a specific or a group of videos on the app...you can delete everything by using "format card". You don't have to worry about saving space because the camera will automatically delete old footages when it is full... loop recording.
LifeHackster you mean the mount itself has a piece of glass/plastic that went over the dome camera? Does the night vision also work through a window? What is the mount you used?
One day I noticed my camera recording continuously even though it was set up for motion detection only. It didn't take too long to figure out what was going on. I had it positioned directly over a chrome/metal mouse trap (in a pitch black room) so I can obtain close-up footage of capturing a mouse at night. The reflection (of the infrared lights, I suppose) off the metal trap was triggering the motion sensor. So I had to reposition the camera on an angle instead of head on.
Hi, considering buying this one. now that my question has been answered by reading on the comments section, just want to know what is the optimal sd card capacity if I am to record continuously for a day? Thank you!
When first it came out of the box the camera views as sitting down on table top perspective, then when I turn it upside down to simulate ceiling installation, the view on my phone also turns upside down I had to turn my phone to view it correctly, How do you correct that
I'm not sure if I get your questions correctly...but WiFi for the camera is the one that you have at home and to access the camera, you can be anywhere as long as your smart phone is connected to the internet.
You will have an option to record continuously or just record whenever there is motion. It will record to an SD card plus Yi just rolled out their cloud service which I'm on a "trial period" right now and will be reviewing it and posting the video around this weekend...but it looks promising and you can add up to 5 cameras in one subscription..for the cheapest option.. $9.99/month for 5 cameras. You can always just use the SD card so that no more additional fees...
I would like to install one of Yi camera's behind a window, either a Yi home camera 720p or this Yi dome camera. So if the Dome camera is behind glass will it still detect whats outside and follow it? Or would the glass mess with motion detection, Also how would night vision work behind glass? I know that the Yi home camera is in fixed postion but same questions, would it detect motion behind glass, an if the night vision looked good? I'm aware that the Yi outdoor would be the best for my situation but i dont want anyone to have access to the cord or camera so im looking to put one behind glass.
You will have no issue in motion detection behind glass because it doesn't use PIR sensor. It uses the change in pixels and their algorithm will decide if it is a motion or not. The night vision on the other hand is another story. It uses IR sensors and when it is on, it will reflect on the glass and you will have a glare and will not be usable footage. Their is an option on their app though to turn off the IR light...which will work if you have some IR lights outside - amzn.to/2nGaXMh
great review! :) Will I be able to access the cams out side my home network (for example office or mobile data)? via internet... Can you watch live feed away from home? can u explain on how can we access camera when away from home? do we need to configure it in our router? using port forwarding?
Yes, you will be able to access the camera outside of your house via wifi, internet or mobile data. You will have the app on your phone and just open it and you will be able to access it. No need to configure anything. Just download the app, register for an account, setup the camera through the app and use the app to access the cameras. You can also download their PC program, login with your email and password and you will also be able to access the cameras also. Hopefully this helps...
If I only want to use this for live feed video so I can check in on my mom throughout the day do I need the cloud?(I just signed up for 3 months at $19.99) Is there a way to hook a speaker or mic up to for better audio? My mom is hard of hearing and the audio is muffled. Thank you! Technically Challenged.
You don't need to sign up for their cloud service. It still can record 24/7 or during motion by putting in a micro SD card. You can use Live View at anytime.
The motion sensing is via the camera itself. They have some algorithm that will detect changes/movement. So, if you are behind the camera, it will not be able to detect you.
Hi, I bought the *Yi Dome Cam 1080P* about 2 weeks ago. it does NOT Tilt down AT ALL. when I tilt it UP it goes WAY up inside the Cam Housing and you cant see anything only Blackness. Cam also seems to have LAG when I go back and look at the Alert Videos... someone can be walking past the Cam and then they are all of a sudden gone out of the video then Cam picks the person up later in a diff area ...its like lost footage or LAG time. Do you have an answer for this, like maybe how to fix both the {1}LAG time and the {2} Cam does NOT tilt down ? I have now read where other people are have the same problems...
Hi I have had this camera for a few months now. Randomly it stopped allowing me to go back to the SD Card (tapping the bottom of the screen and choosing a shaded area) and review the recorded motions. It will only send me notifications on 6 second videos. Do you know what I can do to make this come back? The 6 second videos are useless if something were to happen.
Check first if your SD card has any issues. Check in the settings if they are in "good condition". You can also enlarge the screen or go to landscape mode instead of tapping to go to the timeline and try it that way in searching for recorded videos and see if it works.
My SD card is in good condition and I still have no shaded areas when I change to landscape mode. I reformatted the card and reset the camera and I am still having the problem. Do you think I have to register for YI Cloud storage?
No, you don't have to register for the Yi cloud storage. The camera should be recording on the SD card. Have you turned on "Activity Detection Recording" on the storage settings? Have you tried deleting and reinstalling the app?
I have a problem with motion tracking. I have a camera setup with 3 bookmark positions. #1 left door, #2 main room, #3 right balcony door. And I usually leave the camera in bookmark position #2, main room. So here's what happens. Someone enters the room from the left door (#1). When he reaches main area (#2) of the room the camera picks him up and starts tracking him. He goes out in the balcony (#3). The camera follows him there. So far so good. The problem is that the camera then returns to position #2 (room) while the person is still out in position #3! And it's not like the person suddenly freezes up either. It's kind of like what it does in this video at 11:20 mark (although not the same scenario because you're disappering completely). But still, shouldn't the camera have stayed in the last place it saw you? (the camera doesn't see lower to know that you can circle back). So it doesn't really "search for you" but rather goes back to it's "default" position (whichever you had it left on before it started tracking) (check camera position before tracking and after it returns to "search for you". they're identical!). This is a major flaw in my books. If someone breaks in, the camera should follow and stay on him! not just track him for a little bit. Can you test/replicate this problem? If you can demonstarte it in a video maybe we could alert the company to fix this!
I have to try it out. I normally don't use the motion tracking feature because you are right..it can easily be tricked...If you move fast enough, it will lose track of you. I keep mine in one position but I can always control it manually if I need to..like checking on where the kids are. I have 2 other Yi cameras that is covering other areas in the house.
Hi, I am not able to get a video recording of my footage on the SD card, what is wrong with it ? Can i still record without a cloud storage - what are the settings for that?
You might have a bad SD card...you need to micro SD card to record footage if you don't have cloud recording. Try removing the SD card and view it on your computer and see if there are footage...if not, then format the card to delete and start fresh...if it doesn't work, then you will need a new card.
Hi, thank you for your reply - and it worked ! I did have a bad SD card! how many days worth of recording does a 32GB card hold? Also what is your recommendation of memory for it to last a full month? Do let me know
Hi Lifehackster, I dont know if you can help me, i just bought one of the yi dome camera 1080p,but my night vision is not working.seems like the ir light not turning on.i have done reset but still the same.contacted yi but there not very helpful.maybe you know how to fix this.thanks.Richard.
Try setting the sensitivity level to high and see if you get alerts. Check also on the alerts tab on the app and make sure you are getting the alerts or it might be it is an issue with your notification settings on your phone.
How do I stop the camera from rotating when someone enters the room. I turned motion tracker off but it still moves around when my son wakes up and is moving in his crib. It is loud and I want to turn it off. Any suggestions?
It should turn off if motion tracking is off. Is autocruise off too? Try unlpugging and plugging back in the camera and the last option is to reset it if everything else doesn't work. Hopefully, that helps.
Hello and thank you very much for your video. Very thorough and well explained. I have a question. If it is mounted on the ceiling, would I be able to see something that is exactly below by tilting it all the way? Thank you very much in advance for your reply. Best
Hello Lifehackster. Thanks for the quick reply. I have received mine meanwhile. I am somewhat impressed. I have found that, although as you say the up/down range is somewhat limited, the large field of view I can even see slightly behind the camera ( although I have to fiddle with the pan settings a bit ) . Anyways, keep up the good work. Great Videos. Best regards
hi I have this camera it works great. I have a motion alert of someone breaking into my house. how do I get that motion alert recorded to something else so the police can use it for evidence?
I'm sorry to hear that somebody broke into your house. This is the reason why we have cameras and hopefully you got a good footage of him/her/them. ? To download the footage, you go to the alerts tab on the app and you will see the 6 second video which on the bottom you will see a downward arrow and when clicked it will download to the "photo/video" of your phone in which you can email, text the clip etc. Also you can click the "fidget spinner" which is the share button and you can text, email etc. On the alerts tab, after you play the 6 sec. clip it will show 2 options " replay" or "complete" clip that will get you to the whole recording and there you can click the "video camera" icon to download the video to your phone. Hopefully this helps and let me know how it turns out. I might do a video tutorial on how to do this soon...
Thank you very much sir I will try that. and let you know how it know works out. this is the second time he broke in .and i got a real good video of him five feet away. this camera works really good the police were even impressed on how good the video was. again thank you!
Thanks. The camera will not be pointing towards the front of the house, it will be on a wall facing towards my neighbors house so the panning direction of the camera will actually be up and down and the up and down of the camera will actually be panning. Clear as mud?
I think it will work and it will actually depend on how high you are going to install it. The camera has a limited range on tilting up if you are going to install it on the wall. So, the higher you are able to install the better. Hopefully that helps.
LifeHackster just updated to 1 more black dome 1080p for 43.99! 15$ coupon with prime and I got the 1080p Home 1 for 39.99! Pretty sweet haha. I got the vase you showed on how to make it and outdoor camera also just got the hose gaskets for it. Awesome vdieos
I noticed that when you were searching through footage the timestamp was not changing. Is this another reskinned IPC360 app...because that thing is worse than useless.
when the app is updated it i did not function anymore, it stopped offline, and have reset the camera and keeps on rebooting waiting to connect. cannot pair anymore.
With a 1080p and I'm recording when there is motion only. My 32 GB can store ~ 10 days of footage. This will really depend on how much motion the camera records. If you set it to 24/7 recording, it will definitely be shorter.
Go to the settings menu...Click on the settings for Smart Detection. Turn on "Activity Detection" and by doing that, the "alert settings" will be clickable and you will be able to change the alert frequency and change schedule. Now the alerts will be via your app not text or email. You need to make sure that you are getting notifications (notification is on) from the app which is found in the settings on your phone. Hope this helps.
I deleted all the video clips in the app, but it doesn't show a difference in the storage space available on my SD when I checked it. Is there a way to delete them off the SD card without having to remove it and delete using a computer?
You can use the "format" option on the SD card setting in the app to delete videos on the card. I don't mess with mine because the camera will just record in a loop when the SD card is full meaning it will delete the oldest videos and record over it.
If there are no background noise like the TV, you can hear it clearly 20-30 ft. and probably farther if you already know that is somebody talking and you are listening. My kids can hear me even with the TV/their game on.
Check to see if there are no problems on your micro SD card. Go to settings...microSD card and it should show "in good condition" if not, you can reformat it.

Hi LifeHackster! Does this camera have a fully continuous recording mode? or it only records the moment it detects movement?
Just got this for Christmas. Can't wait to set mine up. How much does each cost ?
This is the 720p version and costs ~ 33 dollars at Amazon.
Can you have multiple users connect to the camera? For instance my phone and my wife's phone. Very informative video.
Yes you can. There is an option on the app to share your cameras.
LifeHackster Thanks for your help!
Can I set this up in a location that has electricity but no internet? I just want it to record to the SD card. Would I have to adjust the settings when connected to my wifi and then move it? Or can it use my phone's wifi to do the setup?

Great video! How do you stop hackers getting into this camera to observe your activities? is there a password controlled access for example?
Yes.. password protected account.
@@LifeHackster ...
But I don't know how to set a password for this camera.Could you please advise me. Thankyou
Greetings from Greece! My question is that the app must run at the back to recieve motion alerts or it works even if the app is closed?
No, it doesn't. It will work even the app is closed.
@@LifeHackster why do i not have any notifications when motion is detected? i receive none...
Fantastic job on this video, ThanQ.
Can you also add a link for the SD card you recommend for this unit?!
I use this one. amzn.to/2kqqlLv

Best Security camera review that Ive ever seen.
Thanks very much
You are welcome.
Great Review! Thank you. I have some questions:
- Is it okay to have it installed in Africa region?

Nice review! Want to buy one! Can you please tell me if there is any noise coming from the camera motors? I mean, if there is a thief in the room where is quiet, and the camera is moving, can the thief hear the camera moving and be aware that he is filmed? Thanks!
If the room is still and quiet then it can be heard but in my case, there is always some ambient sounds like my fridge motor's humming that it is not noticeable.
Thanks for the answer, man!
Yay, kababayan! My kind of channel, subscribed!
Salamat...
If its placed in the sittingroom, does it show the footage outside the apartment? I mean like stairs and lift.
It might not.. if the inside is dark.. the camera will compensate will make the outdoor view washed out.
can you please make a tutorial on how to set this up? i mean how to put it on the wall, do i need it to be near or reachable for wifi, and plug?
Yes, you need to be near an outlet plug and as long as you have a good wifi reception...then you will have no issues. In my case, I actually was running an extension cord in my attic because I have a router setup as an access point and DVR cameras around the area. That is why I was able to just drill a hole in my ceiling and access the outlet from the extension cord. Anyways, I actually have a video of it and I just need to do some editing. I'll put it on my list to upload in the near future. Thanks for the suggestion.
awesome! thanks! last question, how many GB do you recommend for the SD card?
I have the 32 GB and have no issues with it.
I have the 1080p. What Card do you recommend?
Hi, Thanks for the video! can you please check what is the approximate maximum distance, at maximum zoom, you can identify a person with this camera? Thanks!
It is not pretty accurate but at 20-30 feet you can see the person and you will be able to identify them...
Hi wanting to buy this and the outdoor camera. However, I have clarifications regarding connections : 2g vs. 5g . Is this on the phone or my wifi connection?
To connect the camera to WiFi you need 2.4 GHz. So, on your WiFi.
Is this wireless? Meaning does it need to be connected to a power supply or can you charge it and use it without mains power?
Thanks
It needs to be plugged in.
Does the camera have to be plugged in at all times?? If so does Yi have one that is absolutely weireless? Thank you.
Can you delete the micro sd card from the app? Love your detail reviews.
Yes you can by using the format button.
Yes you can. It has 2 way audio..
thank you for your reply and God bless you
So, you don't have a setup for putting a battery in it? I keep seeing that I need to install a battery to use it while unplugged from the USB. I was planning on using this outside, but can't with it plugged in
The Yi dome are designed to be plugged in. You can get away using a power bank to power it but you will be recharging it often.
I see that the 1080p has option for SD, HD or Auto. I guess the first two are for standard or high definition, but what does the Auto mean?
Auto means that the app will automatically choose HD or SD depending on your connection speed at time of viewing.
Hello. this camera records to a micro sd right? My idea is to set the camera to record every morning while I'm not in home, then to watch in the afternoon the work of my nurse whit my sick wife. how can you watch the stores videos? yo can do it from your phone? or you need to in mount the card?
Yes it records to a micro SD card that you put in the camera. And yes you can schedule the recording and you can watch the videos through the phone via the app; on your PC by downloading their PC app. You don't need to remove the card everytime you want to watch the footage.
LifeHackster thank you
You are welcome.
Great review! Question: would you spend the extra cash for a 1080p cam or does this one do the job? The 1080p is about $75 more on Amazon. Thanks for the review.
I'll go with the 1080p.
What setting for it to record when motion detected?
If you have the micro SD card.. it automatically records when it senses motion..if you turn on notifications it will also record a 6 second clip to the cloud (free) and also notify you.
Thanks for the info. I'll refer to this once my camera comes in....
You are welcome.
I got the SDHC instead of the Micro SDHC card. Don't think it'll work. I'll need to get the correct card.
@@LifeHackster Thanks man!
do they have to stay plugged in or do they have a battery?
Yes, they need to be plugged in.
Just one quick question. I want to install this camera in the philippines and im coming back to uk. Is it still possible to connect it?
Maria Aijerry yes, as long as you set up the camera first and it is hooked up to wifi in the Philippines, then you will be able to access the camera in UK.
Hello. A quick question. When I'm trying to play back and save a portion of the video recording is there a way to get the timestamp showing as well ? The video just downloads without the timestamp.
I haven't found a way also about the time stamp. I saw that other versions of the Yi that is sold outside of North America has this option...
Can you use the camera outdoors?
You can but it is not recommended. Yi released their outdoor camera this month - amzn.to/2BkGQwQ
Is the motion tracking loud when it's panning? Are you able to hear it panning when it's real quiet?
sherikream - it is not loud but if it is quiet then you will hear it.
LifeHackster thanks. And how about these Yi cams, will their motion sensor work behind a window?
sherikream - I have a Yi home camera that I placed in an outdoor mount..which has a glass/plastic and its motion detection works...
LifeHackster you mean the mount itself has a piece of glass/plastic that went over the dome camera? Does the night vision also work through a window? What is the mount you used?
sherikream - check out my video of it.... ua-cam.com/video/Z0V3hgD9fjY/v-deo.html
Except that the mount is now not available at Amazon...
Very useful info, is there a need for the 1040p? did you see any pixelation on this one?
I'm planning to get the 1080p version so as to do the comparison. But this version (720p) looks pretty good and I haven't noticed any pixelation...
IM interested in a review on the 1080p version too. Theyve been out awhile but havent seen anyone with one yet.
Yup..I ordered one and will be here by the end of the week..I'll be posting a review of it next week...
Nice! Ill be sure to check it out :P
I have a ceiling fan in my living room, will the turning fans activate the motion detection feature?
Yes it can if it is pointed at it.
Thank you!
You can use micro SD cards from 8 to 32 GB. For me, I use 32 GB on my 1080ps and 16 GB on my 720P.
When first it came out of the box the camera views as sitting down on table top perspective, then when I turn it upside down to simulate ceiling installation, the view on my phone also turns upside down I had to turn my phone to view it correctly, How do you correct that
In the settings, turn on image rotation.
Can use with different wifi connection? How to live tracking at long distance?
I'm not sure if I get your questions correctly...but WiFi for the camera is the one that you have at home and to access the camera, you can be anywhere as long as your smart phone is connected to the internet.
so let me get this right it'll only record when it detects motion? does it cloud storage? or SD?
You will have an option to record continuously or just record whenever there is motion. It will record to an SD card plus Yi just rolled out their cloud service which I'm on a "trial period" right now and will be reviewing it and posting the video around this weekend...but it looks promising and you can add up to 5 cameras in one subscription..for the cheapest option.. $9.99/month for 5 cameras. You can always just use the SD card so that no more additional fees...
do they send u an alert, when the motion is triger ,like the ring spottlight
Yes. There is some delay though 30-40 seconds...Ring has almost instantaneous alerts when it senses motion.
Does it work off of your phones wifi, or your home wifi?
Home WiFi... internet...
Thank You very much, that helps me out a lot
great review!
Hopefully this helps...
thanks sir.. :)
So this tracks movement so long as its in in the field of view/ line of sight?
Yes sir.
nice, bc Amazon makes it seem like it tracks for 15 seconds and then stops.
You can use Live View at anytime.
wanted to know, where is the motion sensor. It is in front of the lens or has 2. If i where behind the camera will it detect me?
The motion sensing is via the camera itself. They have some algorithm that will detect changes/movement. So, if you are behind the camera, it will not be able to detect you.
Does it record audio too like if yout constantly recording
Yes it can.
I think you have a bad camera. Try contacting support or return to where you bought it from for a replacement.
Hi,, How if the internet or wiffi at home suddenly turn off, is the camera still working or not?
Yes. It will still record to the microSD card.
Can you still access or control the camera even if you're out of wifi coverage?
Yes. If you don't have a wifi and using your phone's high speed data plan, you can still access the camera.
Did you have an SD card installed?
Hi,
I am not able to get a video recording of my footage on the SD card, what is wrong with it ? Can i still record without a cloud storage - what are the settings for that?
You might have a bad SD card...you need to micro SD card to record footage if you don't have cloud recording. Try removing the SD card and view it on your computer and see if there are footage...if not, then format the card to delete and start fresh...if it doesn't work, then you will need a new card.
Hi, thank you for your reply - and it worked ! I did have a bad SD card! how many days worth of recording does a 32GB card hold? Also what is your recommendation of memory for it to last a full month? Do let me know
how do you set up the notifications to text you when it detects motion ?
frank buck - There is no option for text notifications at this time. When motion is detected, you will be notified via the app.
You are the best. Thank you. wonderful review
Hi Lifehackster,
I dont know if you can help me, i just bought one of the yi dome camera 1080p,but my night vision is not working.seems like the ir light not turning on.i have done reset but still the same.contacted yi but there not very helpful.maybe you know how to fix this.thanks.Richard.
Is the night vision IR light option in the settings on? If yes, then it is hardware issue and Yi needs to make it right and replace it.
yes its on. i have contacted already the seller. thank you.
One question, i see the 100k/s in the app screen, what that means, how much bandwidth it is spending?
I think it is...the download speed.
Thanks, best review of yi dome.
Thank You...
motion detection not works good . I only get one alert out of more than ten moves I made for testing . Any ideas please ?
Try setting the sensitivity level to high and see if you get alerts. Check also on the alerts tab on the app and make sure you are getting the alerts or it might be it is an issue with your notification settings on your phone.
can we control it from two different handphone. for example from my phone and my wife's.
Yes. You can view and control the camera from different smartphones that have the app.
I love the camera but can’t get the two way audio working with my iPhone X. I can hear sound from the camera but not my phone end
Try resetting the camera. Mine (I now have the 1080p version) works pretty good.
LifeHackster tried that it’s like the mic in the camera doesn’t work. It’s switched on in the settings .
Best
It you mount it in the ceiling, you will not be able to see exactly below it. The up and down range is somewhat limited.
Yes, the camera is pretty good. It pans left or right almost in full rotation.
do i need an iphone for this? or will it work on android phone??
Will work with both...
hi I have this camera it works great.
Can it write on NAS as xiaomi? Support rtsp?
As far as I know, No.
Sir tanong ko lang po kapag as dinning nakalagay camera mdedetect pa din ba niya kahit saang sulok ng bahay?kht s loob ng kwarto pwde p dn b mkdetect?
Thanks for the video is great, well explained. you got a new subscriber.
You are welcome and Thank you for being a subscriber...
Does this camera record in cloud?
It records to a micro SD card by default but you can subscribe to the cloud as a back up.
Does this camera have battery backup
No, it doesn't.
do they have a motion zone
Not with the dome cameras because it tilts and pans around...
Can this be mounted on the side of a wall?
Yes it can be.
Well explained!!! Well received...Thnx!!!!
You are welcome.
Does it work with androi?
Yes it does.
How safe is this? Can you secure your feed with a new password or something like this?
You can setup in the app to require a pin code to secure the camera.
Thank you for your quick reply 👍
Saw on Amazon that you get £10 off when you buy the 720p version.
So it'll cost only £29
Worth a shot I'd say.
Went for the 1080p just now after watching your comparison video between the two and after finding out you get £21 discount on Amazon on it
I LOVE this camera
;)
LifeHackster just updated to 1 more black dome 1080p for 43.99! 15$ coupon with prime and I got the 1080p Home 1 for 39.99! Pretty sweet haha. I got the vase you showed on how to make it and outdoor camera also just got the hose gaskets for it. Awesome vdieos
Wow. That is a pretty good deal..Cool...
Can I connect this ip camera with my existing jovision NVR?
Yes this really helped me thanks!
You are welcome...
Thank you , your video was very helpful !
You are welcome.
Great review! Thank you :)
You are welcome...
can i zoom in in yi home pc ?
I noticed that when you were searching through footage the timestamp was not changing. Is this another reskinned IPC360 app...because that thing is worse than useless.
Great review. Thanks.
You are welcome.
when the app is updated it i did not function anymore, it stopped offline, and have reset the camera and keeps on rebooting waiting to connect. cannot pair anymore.
Hi does anybody know if you can use cloud storage like iCloud or google drive to save footage to?
Not with the Yi..I’m not sure if there are any hacks around it.
How many hours 16 gb sd card can store footage?
With a 1080p and I'm recording when there is motion only. My 32 GB can store ~ 10 days of footage. This will really depend on how much motion the camera records. If you set it to 24/7 recording, it will definitely be shorter.
@@LifeHackster ok thank u
Could u talk through the camera
Yes.
I just got my 1080p up and running, but for the life of me, I dont understand how to set up alerts to my Android . Help
Good to know! Thanks!
You are welcome.
hi, how far can you stand away from the camera and stil hear audibly when someone is talking from it?
If there are no background noise like the TV, you can hear it clearly 20-30 ft. and probably farther if you already know that is somebody talking and you are listening. My kids can hear me even with the TV/their game on.
hello... why my yi dome 720p cannot record.. already put the sd card inside. please help.. tq
Check to see if there are no problems on your micro SD card. Go to settings...microSD card and it should show "in good condition" if not, you can reformat it.
