One-Netbook's OneGX1 Pro Mini Laptop - Didn't Buy it for Gaming (with Teardown)

  • In this video, I'm taking apart and reviewing One-Netbook's OneGX1 Pro Mini Laptop. I wanted to do a teardown review of it because I didn't buy it for gaming (though it does have a gaming-oriented design -- with no dedicated GPU). Instead, I bought it for its creative design and impressive specs for the price.
As you'll see in the video, the OneGX1 Pro Mini Laptop has a lot to offer for the price. It features a very nice design, decent specs, and it's very portable.

Very nice review, very thorough! The teardown is greatly appreciated! Thanks for sharing the case you found for it. I've been curious about what I'm supposed to carry it in.

Does the M.2 slot support a double sided SSD or will it only fit a single sided one?

How are the side controllers powered if they have no connection to the main laptop? Seems a little awkward if you have to charge them separately.

The laptop has been in operation for two months. From the very beginning there were problems with its overheating, it is always very hot. Well, you can be patient. USB ports do not always respond to the device the first time. But the most important thing is that after two months, the left side of the screen began to flicker terribly, considering that I rarely use book mode. I am trying to return the device and get the full payment back. This is where it will be clear what the manufacturer is. At the moment, I strongly do not recommend buying this laptop for serious and responsible work.

Can you do a video with this being on a egpu for us, I've been looking at this for on the go gaming and was looking at the sonnet breakaway puck with a rx5700 and wondering what gains you can get from the difference of internal, would be great to see, thanks

One Netbook mini laptops have existed for a while. You should check out their other models like Mix 3, Mix 4. GPD brand also got their small laptop line up.

And also let's mention Aya Neo, which is more gaming oriented, but still (in contrast with gpd or onenet with a lot of different purpose PCs)

Not sure if you still use this but I have one and it plays pretty much every game out there at around 40 FPS @ 1080p/60 FPS @720p...this was after quite a bit of tinkering...Ciphrays bat file changes, lapping the heatsink which was very uneven, repasting the CPU to the heatsink, latest driver. This allowed me to up the TDP to 20-25W and keep good temps and get the most out of the machine.

Hey Scott, I recently picked one of these up myself and I was wondering if you could help me identify the SSD in this guy. I see (as you mentioned) that it's branded as a One-Netbook m.2 2242 drive. It appears as though that the socket is "B" keyed. I'd like to upgrade mine to have a 1TB SSD but I'm unable to find any drive that works let alone solely "B" keyed. I've tried M keyed drives, they don't fit. M+B drive will fit but do not register at all. So I'm guessing B keyed only is what is needed but finding those seem to be the tough part.....

I am just looking for a 2nd SSD ang glad I found this comment. Did the 'B' key do the trick?

Interestingly, the BM706 does appear to be a Bluetooth 4.2 BLE module, which is weird, because the AX201 already provides Bluetooth 5.0 BLE. The second BLE plus the tiny ARM CPU makes me wonder if there's some undocumented functionality going on.

    • @bigleyling
      @bigleyling 2 роки тому

BM706 could be the RF receiver for the gaming handles. Additional ARM cpu more than likely controls the RGB and tail light

I got mine off of ebay and ordered the controllers separate ( they sent silver ones that don't match my black mini laptop ). I did no tweaks whatsoever. I installed steam and attached an external ssd and played fallout 76 just fine. I dont know the FPS, I just know it seemed just as good as my ryzen 7 1700 desktop with a gtx 1650 non super.

I’m surprised you don’t use an ESD strap to ground yourself when opening devices. They never get damaged from static? I’m newer to computer tinkering versus smaller originally designed mobile devices.

I bought the controllers for this model. I never managed to make them work. Out of the box they have driver issues. Windows reporting Code 10 on Bluetooth device. No existing driver on their page and no reply from their support. Returning them.

I like how you didn't even try to review it from the perspective of anyone who would actually buy it. Pretty sure it was geared toward handheld gaming scenarios where mouse and keyboard aren't a viable option. Also, obviously it's underpowered. It's meant for handheld gaming use cases, not full size laptop use cases. Think a lot of emulation and 2D indie games, not really stuff you'd play with a mouse and keyboard.

Just received one today - defective straight out of the box. The AC adapter rattles inside and does not provide power, the PC itself flakes out if you move the LCD lid - fading, color-shifting, streaks.. A total waste of money.

Not much of a retro gamer, are you Scott? I think the intent of the addon pads is largely meant for more vintage games and emulation. Try installing RetroArch (or RetroBat for a more curated frontend experience) and see how you get on with it. It should be strong enough to drive most Dreamcast, Gamecube/Wii and even PlayStation 2, while easily letting you do the heaviest shaders to enhance the older systems. Is the dpad actually segmented? Because that might be godawful. Anyway, I don't exactly know why you'd get this over a GPD device, especially when those can be had under USD$1K.

GX Pro has the best design out of the 3 & is only 2 generations away from desktop graphics so i'm sure they have already taken those mods into account for the next 2 models.
