Such a great video...makes me want to go back there! We also did our research and discovered that was a truly humane place. However, so interesting they've made a lot of changes...when we were there about 6 years ago, they let us feed, pet, and bathe certain elephants on a limited basis. But apparently they're continuing to develop ideas of dignity. I find it interesting, though...if dogs and cats like being petted in a loving, positive way, why not elephants? At any rate...I love that this work is being done--and you two have inspired us to volunteer there if we return one day.
Yes, these are good points you make. I think the point is that if one person can pet then all the volunteers should pet, and that's a lot of daily hands. Even though they're captive, they aren't domesticated like dogs. I did sneak a trunk tickle when a trunk was offered!
