I was just enjoying the carving, and then Johnny comes on. Fond reminder of conversations with my kids at the age. He's so sweet. It also makes me realize how long I've been watching your channel. You had two kids and he was a toddler back then.
Gotta appreciate the honesty of the kids. If they don't want to play with the canoe, at least they let you know straight up. Probably better than playing with it for 5 minutes and then never again.
I want to second the vote for “Paddle to the Sea”! Your older boy is probably ready for the book and the video. Doug Linker did a carving tutorial around the story as well. Classic!
Nice project. Some ideas, how about carving a pickup truck (56 Ford F100), tank, bull dozer. Slightly more complex would be building a wooden wagon. Could make your own Lincoln Logs.
I have a toddler also and I completely get that difficult challenge of pleasing them at random times. That canoe looks awesome! I would have stopped without the seats but then when I saw them on it I thought “dang! That took it to a new level”. Love watching your videos. Keep up the good work
It is very natural with kids, the way they react here like your kid. You are a very lucky dad to have two beautiful adorable kids we see here in your video !
You make my favorite videos on UA-cam. I started watching years ago when I was still in school. Your videos were my first exposure to hand tool woodworking and joinery. Now I have the means to have a small shop and Ive been practicing my joinery and quickly falling in love with the craft. Thanks for making the videos you do. Liam
Hey andy, I started watching your videos a few years ago and i got hooked i started to watch every new video and went back and watched some older ones, but i found out about a year ago youtube stopped recommending them to me. I recently saw an airstream camper and got reminded of yours. I never forgot your name and so i quickly got on youtube and found your channel again. Now i have post notifications on and i plan to go back and watch all of the videos ive missed. Im glad to be back and i wish you all the best.
This really inspired me to come up with something for my nephew that was born 4 months ago. He's young so still have a bit of time to figure out what to make.
Love these carving videos!!! Also the tool restoration videos. Like the Stanley chisel video or the 4 1/2 restoration video you did a while back. It’s all good stuff though man. Keep doing it hat your doing!!
Great video, I really enjoy seeing you working with your son. Those are the best memories of my life. You might consider building a coffin plane to become an heirloom for your boys to remind them of who you were. I only chose that wooden pattern because it’s my favorite and I would love to see your take on it.
That was a great video. I love working with wood but I don’t have a proper tools. But I still try. Now that I’m retired, I might get a little bit more serious and get the proper tools. You are very talented.
Ah that was a lovely task you set yourself there, great to see your lad in the shop with you, won't be long and he'll be your apprentice. His poor little brother looked like he didn't know if he was coming or going bless him, terrible twos eh?!
Beautiful work, Andy! Nicely done!!! 😃 But yeah... I didn't even understand myself when I was a kid, so... 😬 Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
LOL, sad thing is they don't seem to grow out of it. Most things I've built for my kids go unappreciated. One day when I'm gone maybe they will, for now I'll just keep building.
Hey Andy!, this could help you a bit with the matter if him maybe not liking it much currently. From the experience, I am 19 years old, (maybe I could still feel like a child?😁) but I do have a suggestion for you, since it happened to me the same before, and it is that most likely, little kids tend to feel more attracted to plastic, shiny and colorful toys. It isn´t that they don´t appreciate wooden toys, but their current interest. Happened to me with hand carved cars, were not the best... but what helped me with some children, was to take the time to sit with them, and get into their minds to ask and understand them what they currently like, and that´s how they tend to like more woode toys. As for example, they might currently like animals, would´nt mind to have a canoe, but definately they would incline towards more to their precently likes.´ Also you can have a box with the wooden toys, not only to preserve better the wooden toys from environment and wear. But also for shared use, and when interested in them, they can be used and shared Hope it helps 😁 you have beautiful children 🥰
This brought back memories of a movie I was shown as a kid in elementary school called PADDLE TO THE SEA(I had to look it up) I am now going to try to carve a canoe out of a tree I just cut down If you want to see the movie(short film) here is the link ua-cam.com/video/kLSsAFB9tGA/v-deo.html your son might be more into the canoe if he watches this film
I did not expect that kid reaction 😂. Poor Andy
That's 2 year olds for you! He will look back one day and wish now all he had to worry about was not wanting to play with the canoe in the bath haha
@@redC16 he doesn’t look 2
A kid that old with nuk... I definitely expected that reaction. Fake crying and all.
I was just enjoying the carving, and then Johnny comes on. Fond reminder of conversations with my kids at the age. He's so sweet. It also makes me realize how long I've been watching your channel. You had two kids and he was a toddler back then.
Same! So sweet
It really is crazy how fast they grow up!!
Just keep building the boats, Andy! the tub will bring the boat to life! Thanks for sharing this special build with us! Carve MORE BOATS!!! ;)
Haha! Thanks guys! Maybe next will be a full-size canoe!
@@AndyRawls We are here for it!!
Gotta appreciate the honesty of the kids. If they don't want to play with the canoe, at least they let you know straight up. Probably better than playing with it for 5 minutes and then never again.
Hallo Andy. I like your video. Can you make a short video how to use the scraper you used to finish the bottom of the canoe. Thank you
That was totally awesome, Andy! I loved every second of it.....except the tears/it's not easy being 2! LOL
Haha! Juds having an especially hard time with it!
I want to second the vote for “Paddle to the Sea”! Your older boy is probably ready for the book and the video. Doug Linker did a carving tutorial around the story as well. Classic!
I enjoyed that movie when I was a kid......many years ago
Nice project. Some ideas, how about carving a pickup truck (56 Ford F100), tank, bull dozer. Slightly more complex would be building a wooden wagon. Could make your own Lincoln Logs.
I also have a 2 year old so I wasn’t surprised by the spontaneous crying! Keep up the good work fellow dad!
Nice! Pine wood derby car next, follow by a soap box derby car which the kids can ride down a ramp!
I have a toddler also and I completely get that difficult challenge of pleasing them at random times. That canoe looks awesome! I would have stopped without the seats but then when I saw them on it I thought “dang! That took it to a new level”. Love watching your videos. Keep up the good work

A train carving would be a good one to make, one of those high speed trains tho, quite simplistic.

Thanks for watching and it’s great to have you back!!
Wholesome.
This Is awesome had a carpenter friend who named his kid Chip he didn’t even realize the humor your son will enjoy this forever
With everything going on in the world these days, it's great to see some wholesome stuff like this. That's an epic canoe, thanks for sharing!
This really inspired me to come up with something for my nephew that was born 4 months ago. He's young so still have a bit of time to figure out what to make.
I was blown away when I heard Johnny say you’re welcome. Well done dad!
This was a very satisfying video to watch. I wish I could carve with hand tools vs power.
1911 grips could make for a cool little carving/checkering project
Love these carving videos!!! Also the tool restoration videos. Like the Stanley chisel video or the 4 1/2 restoration video you did a while back. It’s all good stuff though man. Keep doing it hat your doing!!
The airplane was the first video I watched and have been hooked ever since

He loves his canoe so much!!! 😁. Nice little canoe! Glad you shared.

Beautiful job. I think I just saw your next family project after the Argase is done. Lol
I really enjoyed watching you carve the little Canoe.
The detail you go into for the kid's is exceptional. thanks for sharing. Good stuff Andy!
cool project. Hope that you will have time to share more like this in the future
That cookie looked really good. I remember carving a canoe many years ago when I was in like 4th grade.

I was curious how well it floats. Love your work Andy. Thanks.
Of course a paddle, don't want to be up a creek without one !
Beautiful job on that canoe.
This is gorgeous and relaxing to watch 😍 your son is a lucky guy!
That's pretty cool..three generations sitting in your shop...

Beautiful work, Andy! Nicely done!!! 😃

Definitely love these videos! The reaction made me laugh a bit. I can definitely relate right now
LOL, sad thing is they don't seem to grow out of it. Most things I've built for my kids go unappreciated. One day when I'm gone maybe they will, for now I'll just keep building.

Very Cool.
Good video
Needs a lighthouse for the side of the bath now
very nice!!!
Awesome!!
I love it! I am not good with carving at all lol
Enjoyed the carving. Go MuskOx Love their flannel shirts especially up here in Michigan
Their flannels are the best. I’ve got way too many!!
Does your wife borrow them one in a while?
What wood did you used?
Reminds me of the book "Paddle to the Sea".
Tractors and cars would be cool
Ill never forget the spoon carving video
Great canoe carving Andy! Can you make a replica of the Titanic daddy?😂
The boys will remember you forever, handmade toys are the cherished ones.
👍
Good 👍
Supper colle dad ❤
How awesome! Too bad the little guy didn’t like it.
мне понравился лодка👍
Is that more of a dug out than a canoe? 😊
The original canoe was a dugout.
My 2-yr old is having a "grumpy stage" of life too LOL
Sungguh menyenangkan hati bergitu kreatif saya hobby I'm glad to you dari aceh indonesia
I have a 1.5 month and wow. Do they cry. I cry too haha.
"Axes are for carving" best thing ever said

Do you worry that he might use a hatchet like that?

Mr Rawls where is your Apprentice of late dont see him much
He’s still here working hard everyday.
👍👍👍
9:40 LMAO.
Nice job, except for the CA glue, this is how toys were essentially made pre-plastic.
Mantaaap
Terrible Twos 🤣
As a father of a two-and-a-half-year-old...I understand your pain 😔
A figurine of a fisherman for the canoe
SOMEONE NEEDS A NAP
Had a 6 month “grumpy phase” with the 2 year old. Nice to get past it.
I can’t wait!
kids......
came to this expecting a ridable canoe tbh
It’s completely rideable, depending on your size and weight
