Lol i was just out in the sticks chopping woods for 12 hours straight.. do it for free, sometimes hard labour pays more than money.. why spend money on a gym membership when you simply can work hard as shit.
Occasionally I let UA-cam algorithm suggest vids for me, which is how I found this, and it is one of the best produced vids I have seen in the past three years. EXCELLENT work. Thank you very much for sharing.
Now you see why the birch bark canoe, was so revolutionary! Gota hand it to you for sticking it out, & not quitting! Can't fathom doing that without modern day equipment!
They usually burned/charred away the wood they wanted to remove, only the finishing touches was done by hand with tools. Stone tools wittle at wood pretty good, and I do not mean sharp flint but to the layman's eye would look blunt and ineffective for the task. Just to give an example a stone axe (they don't look like they could compare at all to iron axes) requires about 3 times the swings to do the same task iron axe would. So it's not terribly difficult.
I have nothing but the greatest respect for you brother. This is an engineering masterpiece, and your skills are next level. Thank you for sharing this with the planet. Take care and God Bless. ❤
I tried doing this forty plus years ago. I found this perfect cottonwood log, already dry. I used an antique adze and used fire to my advantage when I could. It weighed a ton ! I finally got it into a local pond and jumped in. I had evidently made it off center. It got accidentally burned in a brush fire. No loss.
I agree, I have never thought the people who would hallow out a log and use it as a boat used gas powered chain saws but I like how the lost art of doing so is coming back.
I admire the adventurous spirit in you. I too possess this spirit. It gives purpose to life. (Besides family.) Great job with the canoe. Is well thought out. Can be tweaked later. I bet you feel a sense of pride about your canoe. Well done my friend. May you fulfill the adventure brewing inside you. Be well. Be safe. God Bless 🖐🏾😎
If I ever find myself trapped on a deserted island, with just a pair of ice skates (like in the movie Cast Away), I officially know who I want to be stuck with me! This video, from the music, to the sound effects, to the tools and techniques, was a pure joy to watch!
That’s the best build I’ve seen in ages, all that work and WOW it worked like, it’s so good so buoyant so very grand, thanks for the video owesome stuff
As a 34 year old man who hasn't seen the ocean up close since he was 2 (I hardly remember it) I've always held a fascination for sailing. Amazing that someone could take a log and turn it into an oceangoing vessel. The UA-cam algorithm really knows me.
Awesome video Mike - I found about you through Alone and now going through your UA-cam catalogue. Your survival skills speak for themselves, but your camerawork is also in a class of its own. Can't wait to see your next project!
Wow! Felt like I accomplished something just watching! Sign that dude up for the next, "Corp of Discovery"! Brilliant, concept, visuals, and talent... well done 👍
You cannot help but admire, all the Hard Work; that this Man put into sculpting, carving, handmade, Canoe! It looked Beautifull in the Water!! Amazing Work!!😊
Not sure what is the coolest thing... the work to build -carve?- that canoe or the fantastic editing of the video where music and tools noises match so well... whichever... fab!! ❤😉
Holy smoke! That's incredible! This man is a master crafter. I thought it was going to be too heavy and it wouldn't float. But I was wrong! Very impressive!
That is absolutely amazing! I was just looking for ideas on how to outfit an aluminum canoe to sail but that blew my mind! Truly something to aspire to.
This video is beyond what I thought I would be viewing. The video kept my full attention and the time lapse was great. It absolutely amazing watching you take a massive tree and transforming it into a one of a kind, true piece of artwork. Your vision and execution amazing, as well as your craftsmanship. I must admit, watching you sail out in open water, I got teary eyed. May your sail time be many. Best regards.
Blown the fk away... speechless... wanted to write my amazement but just second your comment.. nuff sed.. To the channel..WOW fella.. how far have you travelled n what's the biggest swell you hit ?? Liked n Subbed ez choice.. just noticed vid a yr old.. lol dunno why it hit my feed but glad it did.. cool as..
I love that he uses all kinds of traditional tools and solutions for his project and then pulls the chainsaw like "ok fuck that shit there are limits". 😂 I'd be curious to know if there is a technical reason for that or if my interpretation is actually correct haha. Amazing project and skills, thanks for sharing !
As a boat builder I can tell you: You are correct, the reason is 100% because "Bugger this for a game". Even with powertools you can see how the project has aged him, at 7:45 he has grey hair ;)
Chainsaw helps take the bulk out and is percise he knows how deep it went . Rather than stripping the inner log he may go to deep. Another thing g there's no hand tool to chainsaw in I mean he can drill but that's annoying af
You could sail across the ocean in this. Dugouts are the most primitive kind of boat there is, but what people forget about them, is that because they are carved out from a single tree, they are incredibly strong. This could take whatever the ocean can throw at it, and it's not going to start coming apart.
Absolutely amazing! Loved how you tried to remove the wood in larger sections to keep for later use I assume? And the Fred flintstone calipers 🤯👏🏼 awesome work. Take care. Si 🤠
Fantástica construção deste barco principalmente porque foi feita de uma peça de madeira inteiriça. E ainda com muitas montagens feita com cavilhas. Muito legal mesmo, parabéns!!!!!!!!

Great to see that some true rugged men still exist. One must admire the patience of this guy.

It's the platinum edition! I like to imagine someone hundreds of years ago in history finding that canoe, and how excited they'd be using it. 🌴
You are a real man. I’m 17 years old and I admire you and your life style! Respect! 💪 Hello from Ukraine 🇺🇦
Thanks!
I find it amazing that Aboriginal, Native Americans and Polynesians could do this without modern metal welding and tool crafting. Really awesome work!
And did/do it way better
Modern tools just save you time. Its wood you can carve it if you have patience
They usually burned/charred away the wood they wanted to remove, only the finishing touches was done by hand with tools. Aborigines usually made their canoes out of bark, few tools required.
They also built boats from leather in the polar region!
Bring a Oscar to this man! Super skillfull, smart and totally dedicated. Respect from Brazil!

Time-lapse of some incredible craftsmanship. And a man aging in front of our eyes at the same time. His spirit burns brightly. Great video!
Very well made kayak with some really nice features. A value for what you get. The grandson has already caught some nice fish from it.
Do what you love, and love what you do - sums up this guy! What great determination on such a large project. Hats off to you dude!
