Great video, your quality is amazing, well put together and I look forward to more here. Being a fellow NYer myself learning from old timers in the Adirondacks and Catskills, I must agree with what you said about having opportunity to teach this stuff. Well done, loved those mittens you made also.
I have personally been to coyoteU. It was an extremely interesting class and at the 3 day class Mark was an awesome teacher and an awesome host. They will feed you like a king and surprisingly let you in to his home while serving a couple cocktails. Doesn’t sound like anything out of the ordinary but in this day an age that’s allot. Some people will learn allot from coyoteU. However allot of people will walk away with nothing more then bragging rights. ( I’ve been to Mark Zagger’s class). Trapping is based off common sense and hard work. If you have common sense you will NOT once have a jaw dropping epiphany. However that is what you will be lead to believe. I know Mark on a very small personal level. He is hard working and he traps more coyotes then probably 95% of coyote trappers out there. However he is a professional salesmen , in the white collar world. Trapping hardly pays for itself anymore so this is a great way for a person to supplement there passion for trapping. Making over 30,000$ a year off your high expectations. Unless you lack common sense. Like I said very interesting, however never had a jaw dropping... edge of my seat experience! Mark has personally told me one thing and done another. After he did that, I was told we are competition. Even thoe I’m a student of his. This is the most honest way I can fight back is to tell you my personal thoughts on the class and the man that runs it.
Zach, I'm a local guy like you who went to CoyoteU. I agree that Mark is a great teacher and host. I learned a lot from him and if you take what he teaches and apply it as a no nonsense approach anyone can start to be successful. Then add miles and traps to the equation and a trapper can start adding up the numbers with the knowledge gained. Now I know Mark on a personal level. I've been on his trap line with him. What he preaches in CoyoteU is exactly how he runs his line.No BS... We have given each other leads when it comes to landowners in the areas we trap. I don't consider myself competition but I guarantee he would if I was trying to access the same properties or areas he has been trapping. Im sure you know Mark has 30 years invested in building the portfolio he has today. That's a lot of hard work and maintaining that permission all these years tells you what kind of person he is. Common sense would tell anyone not to overstep boundaries. Look at O'Gorman's rule when it comes to coyote instruction. He won't consider anyone who is in a 300 miles radius.
In the face of a world pandemic and possible economic disaster the fur market is toast. Hopefully when we come out the other end of this we will have numerous states put bounties on coyotes so the art of trapping can live on. Until then Marks talents will help many stay in the game and pass his knowledge on to the next generation. Good luck to everyone in the dark days ahead.
Very good! Love it 👍😁. Keep up the good work.
