My son and I picked up a 57" TV on the side of the road, and went through this same process to test led's to replace the ones on the backlight that were burnt. One LED burns out and the whole backlight refuses to turn on. We were so proud of ourselves when it all worked. But the screen was ever so slightly crooked, so I took it apart one last time. Picked it up slightly to straighten it, and it snapped diagonally across the screen. 🤣 Great videos!
No more larger, larger lighting. You! have delighted us all & showed the the way-to-go with the old cow, The satisfaction when you pull the trigger, Ahh that's Better! 😁👍🏻
I know this video is a year old, but I am amazed you just did not turn the board 180, or the board holder and then not have to deal with your shaky left hand. :D
Thanks Tidder! Yeah, I knew it would be difficult but it surprised me just how easily they melted! Still, it was really good to have a go at this, and I know I'd be better at it next time! 👍
Best way to remove them is to use hot air from the underside of the board. i have repaired two for the local pub one of them was only just over a year old.
Aah, thanks Rob! I did think of doing that but wasn't sure if I'd melt my table! I really need to get rid of the plastic table and get something a bit more sturdy! 😁
I use a second small soldering iron when dealing with small plastic leds and with both heat up both sides at the same time and removes everytime all the time, works like a charm with no destruction needed, excellent fix bro
First I tried to play with LED PCBs I also tried with a solder iron but made an even bigger mess than you because my LEDs had pads fully underneath. I therefore bought a hotair station and it works perfectly. Plastic doesn't melt at all. Resoldering I use solder paste. I've tried to remove LEDs from an aluminum PCB with an iron underneath (I never iron clothes, so at least it got some use now), and that worked perfectly too, but underneath heat is not necessary with standard PCBs, which I think you had here. PS: I really enjoy your videos, thanks!
yay you did great on those tiny plastic components. I tried removing and replacing some momentary buttons on my wii remote. It wasnt pretty. I was amazed when one still worked LOL. Im learing loads from watching you.
I had to replace a few of those leds, I got cheap spares from a meter of led light strip, turned out cheaper than just buying the leds... My attempts with the soldering iron didn't go as smoothly as this so hot air was my friend, melted a few that way too though :D
Thanks Marc! 👍 That's a really good idea with the LED strips. I looked for some SMD LEDs and struggled to find anything at a decent price! Alot of guys have said to try hot air from underneath, so I'm gonna try that next time, but I think my method in this one worked out quite well, so I'm happy enough! 😀
