Jane’s Addiction won the evening with an exceptional hourlong set marred only by lead singer Perry Farrell’s insane between-song patter talking to the crowd about some LA memories including surfing the wedge in Newport Beach.
Queens of the Stone Age’s Troy Van Leeuwen lacked Navarro’s over-the-top rock persona, but he did a great job replicating Navarro’s memorable solos and added his own flourishes here and there. I really wish Dave was there but Troy was rocking it! I was secretly hoping he'd show up.
The real secret weapon, though, was bassist Eric Avery, who has declined to participate in most reunited Jane’s Addiction activities, beyond a brief spell in the late ’10s. His distinctive, bass-as-lead-guitar approach is what made Jane’s Addiction’s early work so compelling, particularly on 1988’s “Nothing’s Shocking,” songs from which made up about half of Friday’s set list, and I was not complaining.
The band opened with the slow-burning “Kettle Whistle,” a track from Jane’s Addiction’s first, short-lived reunion in 1997. And while it was clear there were some effects being utilized, Farrell’s voice was shockingly on point. Perry is 63, has not led the healthiest lifestyle and, you know, the vocals on a lot of Jane’s Addiction songs are really weird and tough to sing in the best of circumstances but he powered through
Farrell and Avery soared on a huge “Ocean Size,” an even huger “Mountain Song” and an extended “Ted, Just Admit It …” Yes, Farrell did kind of mess up here and there but who cares. Once they get Navarro back in the fold, these guys will be unstoppable, which no one was expecting from Jane’s Addiction in 2022.

...but was kinda of weak with the 3 days solo; nobody beats Navarro when it come to soulful licks.
By all accounts Troy was quite a last minute replacement so he probably didn't have that much time to rehearse. And he himself has also mentioned that guitar solo's, like the Three Days one, ain't really his strong suit.

Agreed, saw them twice in the past 6 months, and his voice is the best I've ever heard it. He uses the microphone like an instrument: effects like a guitarist uses pedals, and he is a master at it. Those effects are part of the JA cosmic magic. Avery's might balances out his pixie shaman cosmic sparkle so perfectly.

Amazing tour🤘🏽🤘🏽 I caught them in Tampa and they were awesome. Troy did Dave proud. Perry was a bit tipsy but he still put on a great show. Jane's has been a favorite of mine since I first saw them live in 1988 and met them at my job. I worked at the hotel here in Orlando and they gave me free tickets to the show. Such nice guys.

Love those Palladium shows in the early 90's tons of benefit shows. Lollapalooza in Irvine Meadows, NIN playing a day show. IceT with Perry Whittie! Lots of Amazing memories. I cherish those day with all my heart.

Yeah hey I've listened to the entire thing. If nobody in the audience knew a single Jane's Addiction song, they would be in the audience saying "What is WRONG with the singer? Can't understand a word he's saying," and " How come the rest of the band are so good???"... I don't think a single note in "Aint No Right" is in tune at ALL. and even LIVE AUTOTUNE wouldn't fix it. But, I love these guys. And thank you for posting this. I've seen Perry live a few times where he's been SPOT ON!! and so energetic!!

Primus pixies janes was the trifecta and I've never felt stupider for missing a show in my life. Ive seen all 3 bands separately at least. Then she did AND Ted just admit it!! Wow

🙋🏼♂️ I missed a lot of great bands was working all the time former poor dirt bag grunge era owed itself to the Alternative scene which was thriving I went to some shows but missed a ton of great music I ain't so poor anymore might go see Jane's Addiction if they're still playing this sounds pretty good!! I bought Nothing's Shocking about 8 times over the years listened to em to DEATH ☠️💥 I have been renovating houses since the 1970s and supply chain consultant now a good 30 years I spent a lot of hard earned money on those bands to at least listen to good music while I earn the Benjamins 💰😎👍🏻
One of my all time favorite groups. I just missed them in October they had to cancel PITTSBURGH PA supposedly Perry was injured. HOPEFULLY they make it back this summer..I missed them back in the day. You're a lucky guy. ✌✌

Great video. I think it was Irvine Meadows not Pacific Amphitheater for Lollapalooza. We got seats for the 3rd night but the lawn had a mosh pit of its own so I was up there for a few songs.

You were a bunch of things that inexplicably most you tubers aren't...you were relaxed and yourself. You were genuine. And you weren't indulgent. Un lujo este nuevo regreso de Avery! Parece estar disfrutando genuinamente de revisitar su obra y legado, incluso recuperando algo de la camaradería de los viejos tiempos con Perry.
El bueno de Chaney merecería su lugarcito (por su talento, lealtad y compromiso), al menos mechando un tema de Strays o The Great Escape...

I saw them last Fall on this tour, in CT. Couldn't believe they opened with Kettle Whistle. Great trippy song. THough I will say Perry didn't even attempt to hit ANY high notes. AND they didn't play Then She Did. Which was upsetting. And I missed Dave too.
Perry ain't a young man no more I turned 51 🎅🏼 yesterday I never even tried to hit the high notes in my prime 😉 AMAZING they're all still alive they were a MESS back then w heavy drugs incredible band tho when hitting on all cylinders 😎👍🏻

no in JA is fighting...Navarro has "long covid" and took this tour off to heal...they're already recording new music! Perry, Perkins, Avery Navarro = New album!
Once again, Yeah, great energy. and JANE'S is probably in my top 5 bands ever. However, Perry seems to own the band and on numerous occasions, when I've seen them live, has said things like "Welcome and I am so glad you guys are all here to hear MY BAND, Jane's Addiction!" (different variamts) ,, if he wasn't so horridly out of tune, I could almost accept that. Ironically, it wouldn't be Janes Addiction WITHOUT him, would it? He actually sounds a lot better recently than he ever has live.
Why wasn't Dave playing at this gig ?

So I’ve been totally playing their live show in Hammerstein Germany which to me is perhaps the best recorded (sounding) and also performed rock show on utube or whatever (live show). This is a mere fraction of how epic that was. To me, this is unlistenable. I would advise anybody to listen to the show I just mentioned. It’s a Phyllis Killer. This one sucks. I’ll post a link.

Two things. I forgot to mention a huge reason why the Hammerstein show I mentioned is so epic is it was filmed and recorded for MTV. The other thing is maybe it’s time for Perry to hang ‘em up. This show sucks compared to how they used to be. This shit is barely better than elevator music imo. Sad. He probably partied too hard for too long. (Fuck I think that’s me too 😅)
