I remember when you first told me about the idea for this project. It completely drew me in. Even though I got to be involved throughout the process of creating this, and I’ve seen it countless times, it never ceases to amaze and captivate me when I watch it. Incredible work from you and Jenna! So excited that it’s finally here for everyone to see!
Correction, incredible work from the THREE of us, YOU included! Thank you as always for being my partner on all these projects and for all the support you continue to give me. This film wouldn't have happened without you. Love you to the moon and back! ❤
Looks and sounds stunning, and in such a short time frame! Congrats on you and your crews success. Thanks for sharing the link on Reddit. Looking forward to seeing more of your work. Subscribed
This is a great short film! I watched the bts video first, and it's still so impressive to watch the final thing. You did a great job with such a short amount of time!
Absolutely! They vignette to varying degrees based on which focal length you use, but with the FX3’s clear image zoom, it pretty much goes away. Some shots barely even needed it, since I don’t mind a bit of vignetting if it’s not too strong.
I’m using the Phantom LUTs by Joel Famularo in combination with the Dehancer plugin to really help achieve the film like look. Might do a proper colour grade breakdown of the short film soon.
No not really, I actually don't really get hung up on chromatic aberration all that much. I just always try to emulate film as much as possible, and love the look of some blooming and halation, especially in combination with film grain.
Thanks so much! Yep clear image zoom definitely helped, although some shots barely needed it as the vignetting wasn’t too strong depending on which focal length I used.
Your shots, music and editing is on point. I have some questions. 1) Did you shoot solely with the Sirui T1.2 Nightwalker lens? 2) Did you use any anamorphic lens or did you reframe 16:9 in post? 3) Where your shots in Slog then color graded in Resolve? I love your shooting style and I hope you do a complete film of this. 😊
Thank you so much! To answer your questions: 1) Yes, this whole short film was shot on the three lenses in this set. If you haven't already seen it, you can watch the behind the scenes video here ua-cam.com/video/Zd810lXFIac/v-deo.htmlsi=DTkHiLch1DWcklHp 2) I reframed in post, but shot accordingly knowing I wanted the anamorphic aspect ratio. 3) Absolutely, I always shoot in slog3 and do all my grading in Resolve. Again, thank you so much. It would be awesome to do a feature length version of this one day!
Hello! Thanks for the amazing content as always! I'm trying to signup on your website to get the few free stuff. I tried 3 times with 2 different emails, but still, I didn't receive a confirmation email. I checked the junk mail too. So could you kindly help me with that?
grey bars are so bad, distracting.....and footages are so dark...not so sharp n clear. its pain in the eyes. but filming, story, cinematography, music is good.
That’s so strange. It plays normally for me on both desktop and mobile. The video was exported at the proper 2.39:1 aspect ratio, so there’s no black bars baked in. So if it’s misaligned it would be a glitch on UA-cam’s end. And yea I prefer traditional black bars when viewing, but UA-cam does this weird blurred background thing now which can be quite distracting.
It's actually a beautiful, wonderful farm run by a very lovely family. They were kind enough to let me wander around their property and meet the animals, and film any footage I needed. We didn't make the animals do anything, as they are not trained for film. I just filmed them as they naturally were and tried to make the shots fit where I could in the film. With a bit of sound design, it's kind of easy to make it appear a certain way. Hope that eases your mind!
I don't normally respond to these kind of comments, but since you took the time to watch (assuming you actually watched all the way through) and comment, I'll take the time as well. It's totally 100% fine if you don't like the film. You may not like the story, the cinematography, how it was filmed, the acting, or any of a million other things about this short film, but to say it's not a short film is just ridiculous. If you actually watched beyond the opening shots, which were more a 'mashup of shots' to set the scene, you'd very quickly see there's a story here. And if you put on your thinking cap for a few minutes and used some critical thinking skills, you may have even noticed there's 2 stories going on here. There's the literal story about a girl working on a farm who is seemingly abducted by aliens, and there's under the surface story about a girl who is stuck in an abusive relationship, who finally gathers the strength to leave. She's being pulled to the light, or a better life, but is still scared of leaving the dark, or the familiar. And at the end, she decides to walk into the light, even though she's afraid of what could be on the other side. I've spoken to countless people who watched the short film online, and many more who watched it in person at the film festival it premiered at, and most people picked up on the dual nature of the story right away and very much enjoyed it. So again, you don't need to enjoy the story or the film at all, that's the beauty of creative works like this. Everyone has different views, likes, dislikes, and opinions, but to completely write something off as not being a short film and try to gatekeep what is and isn't considered art or a film is exactly what's wrong with the film and filmmaking community. Be better than that.

Everything about this short is great. The audio, cinematography, and lead performance all shine as outstanding. Great stuff.

Me too Jenna, thanks as always for being down to work on these projects with me!
I really enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing the link from the previous video. Amazing what a little camera can do
So happy to hear that! It really is an amazing camera.
Wonderful, and I love the BTS before watching this !!
Thanks, so happy to hear that!
That's probably one of the most cinematic short films I ever saw on UA-cam! Congrats, it looks awesome :)
Well, that was excellent! Hard to believe you shot it in a day (more or less). Great job! :)
Thank you! It definitely was not easy but still had lots of fun making it.

Loved the cinematography, and the acting was great. Thought the "silent argument" scene was fantastic. Great work
I'm so happy to hear that, thanks so much!
Awesome video! Love how you shot this on sirui lenses. congrats on your success!
What matters is how much it was shot on an FX3 and a Sirui lens guys
Winna Winna chickin dinna! Profound concept executed with much art!

Nice! I just ordered the 24mm Nightwalker, and I can't wait to use it!
That's awesome to hear!
Great acting &
amazing cinematography.

hwy man , thanks for sharing this is fantastic , hope for some more awesomeness in future.
No problem, I'm so happy to hear you liked it!
Aren't the Nightwalker lenses for super 35 cameras? Wouldn't they vignette on the FX3?
Absolutely! They vignette to varying degrees based on which focal length you use, but with the FX3’s clear image zoom, it pretty much goes away. Some shots barely even needed it, since I don’t mind a bit of vignetting if it’s not too strong.
@@AlexPerri ah makes sense. very cool. thanks!
This is great
❤❤❤ Espectacular
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it!
what LUT are you guys using?
I’m using the Phantom LUTs by Joel Famularo in combination with the Dehancer plugin to really help achieve the film like look. Might do a proper colour grade breakdown of the short film soon.
Love it ❤
Thanks man, much appreciated!
@@AlexPerri welcome ☺️
Please Tell me about white balance throughout the shoot
Do you feel you needed to add the red halation to cover the chromatic aberration of the lenses? I personally love halation, just curious though
No not really, I actually don't really get hung up on chromatic aberration all that much. I just always try to emulate film as much as possible, and love the look of some blooming and halation, especially in combination with film grain.
This was amazing I get the whole set in the mail today for my Red Komodo 😮💨
That's awesome, hope you enjoy them!
CAN you film in 4K with the Fx3 and the sirui night walker ?? Because and can’t…
Huh!? Of course you can lol
Yes you can! You'll just have to crop it a bit or zoom in a bit to reduce some of the vignetting.
Nice shortfilm! how did u manage the vignetting of the nightwalker lenses? Did u use clear image zoom?
Thanks so much! Yep clear image zoom definitely helped, although some shots barely needed it as the vignetting wasn’t too strong depending on which focal length I used.
Really good!
Thanks so much Kidchris!

Great work! Excellent
Definetely getting the Nope vibes (but my bitrate is fucking suffering)
is hard to tell the quality of the lens when a lot of film grain is added!
nice
i think thats how gawkx yutube channel able to make hi cinematic yutube videos

They have them in movies, but yeah the bottom black bar seems to be more higher. I think it's not exported correctly
That’s so strange. It plays normally for me on both desktop and mobile. The video was exported at the proper 2.39:1 aspect ratio, so there’s no black bars baked in. the real horror is what is being doen to the animals in real life. Are they being brutally killed? what kind of farm is it?
True

@@AlexPerri DO they KILL the animals? Do they MURDER the living beings?
pretty mediocre stuff, I'm not sure where "short film" lost its meaning but this is just a mashup of shots with some vague "story line"
