Awesome review straight forward, in depth, and easy to understand at the same time, I was in the market for a laptop mostly for Emulators, OS Game's, and just Game's in general that aren't graphically demanding, and you pretty much sold me on this one, it meets all my needs, plus it'll take some weight off my Desktop, I wouldn't pay 1k for it, but I see it's down to $650 now, so for that much I'd definitely say it's worth at that price point.
Hello! My acer nitro 5 laptop recently broke down and I'm looking at this as my next laptop, I hate acer design with a passion cause obviously the issues started occurring after a year even with good maintenance. How would you describe your experience with the laptop if you got it? Games played and their performance? Any problems?
The fan doesn't need vents. It''s a shroud based fan as you can see after you removed the back. After seeing it not sure why you would be confused. A shroud based fan doesn't need vents. It's job is to push the hot air out of the case. It doesn't need vents or cool air coming in to do that. The vents are over the heatpipes and fins. The fan on this laptop exhausts the hot air both out of the top and the side. I have never really been a fan(haha) of laptops. I keep my desktop PC basically as good as it gets for gaming. Currently duel 1440P 165hz monitors, Ryzen 5900X/RTX 3080 ti, and 32GB 3600mhz CL16 ram(4x8GB) sticks as populating all 4 dimm slots can be up to a 10% performance boost on Zen 3. I enjoy playing games at Ultra settings but still want really high fps so I keep my PC updated constantly. Recently had to start traveling for work. Didn't wanna spend alot as I won't be using it that often but I wanted a laptop to game when I do have to travel. I have this same model. I paid 650 US dollars for it on sale brand new which imo was a great deal. The I7 and GTX 1650 Max Q. The only thing I did was upgrade the ram to two 2933mhz 16GB sticks for 32GB total and added in a second 1tb SSD. I also have my GPU overclocked +140mhz on the core and +500mhz on the memory. So when gaming my core clock actually runs around 1740 mhz and my memory clock at 5500mhz. Doing this with the custom fan profiles I made in dragon center my GPU runs around 65-70C as does my CPU. This is without Cooler Boost enabled as that max's out the fan and it gets pretty loud around 6000 rpm. My fan profiles normally have it running around 3000-3500 rpm. I can't hear it and it still keeps it really cool. Note my gaming room ambient temperature is around 67-68 degrees Fahrenheit. I use a Cooler Master cooling pad that has no fans. All it does it keep the laptop elevated nicely so that it always has fresh air. Thus the internal cooling is doing all the work. Having those temps on laptop at full GPU load while gaming and overclocked is extremely good imo. The cooling system in this laptop works surprisingly well and obviously the fan doesn't need vents under it for it to do it's job. It's not an open air fan like you find on most modern GPU's today. It's job is to push the hot air out of the chassis and it does an amazing job at that.

Honestly 4 hours isn't bad vs the 1-2 hours of all the other gaming laptops, it's cheap and can play doom eternal at 60fps that's enough for all I want it for plus it doesn't insult my intelligence by highlighting movement keys I had to choose a different laptop in the end but honestly, looking at how this operates I recommend it for gaming. @@masterjm5161 Very bad purchase, the battery can't hold it's charge. Discharges in less than 2 hours completely with just windows in background. Less than an hour of gaming, this is outrageous. What is the colour gamut range of this laptop? Can you tell me if it is good for content creators, I do mostly video editing. Which is the better graphics to get with this laptop, 1650ti or 1650?
Computer noob here. Very informative video! Thank you so much for that! I'm thinking of buying this model with the Intel Core i5-10500H and GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q 4 GB (versus ASUS TUF GAMING F15 FX506LH-HN004T with Intel Core i5-10300H-processor and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 4 GB). In the thermals section of your video (ca. 8:50), your HWinfo logs core maximums of 93. Is that not dangerously high, or am I misunderstanding something? I was under the assumption that computers will literally shut themselves off at around 100. I'm not a demanding gamer and don't care about ultra-high settings. I just want to play single-player survivals, RPGs and the occasional MMORPG at passable quality and heat levels that won't fry my laptop and force me to buy a new one a year later. Is this a good laptop to get for those needs? Or would something like the ASUS i mentioned earlier be a better fit? I can get them for the exact same price where I live and as far as I can tell, there's basically no difference between their specs, so heating is really the biggest factor for me at this point. I just want it to run as cool as possible, although I know laptops will never get below certain temperatures compared to a stationary rig. Sorry for the ramble, but I just really don't know how to explain these techy things concisely, and don't have any real frame of reference. Thanks for the help!
93 is high, but not abnormal; a lot of CPUs especially mobile hit those temperatures. They don't shut down, rather they thermal throttle to try and keep themselves cooler. In fact some CPUs have a maximum of 105 before they thermal throttle, so you don't have to worry too much about it being dangerously hot
@@TechRodent Thank you! I suppose the number to focus on is the average rather than the maximum. I might go ahead and get my hands on this machine, since you seemed to rate it nicely! The laptop should be perfectly fine for content creation, though the screen isn't the most colour accurate; you might want to get something with a better display of at least 100% sRGB. I would recommend to stay away from the Alpha 15 as that laptop is still on the older Ryzen 3000 Zen+ architecture.
I don’t understand why people keep complaining about the one fan aspect when you can buy a measly external cooling pad for a few bucks. I’ve always used a cooling pad with both of my laptops and I believe that’s why my oldest one which is still kicking is almost 10 years old. I wouldn’t dare not use one. Just because they’re call laptops doesn’t mean you can just neglect to make sure it’s well being well ventilated and properly cooled. This stands true for most electronics tbh.
Undervolt it , 60-65 c temp , played battlefield V on midium setting , for 2 hours , but its overall good for Programming with extrnal keypad ( buy Bluetooth ).

It runs eldenRing max settings with 60fps above .. and im loving the laptop.. about the heat its normal for most of the gaming laptops out there! Its does not get too hot if you max out the fan speed! Its the build quality is good, not the greatest out there, but for the price its perfect! i love it!

you will have no over heat problem, the only thing is that because its an metallic chassis, the metal gets hot while playing videogames ( next to the qwerty or azerty keys)
Can’t you just use it with an external fan pad? I mean I’ve been using one with my Samsung for years because I’ve found in my experience that even tho they’re called laptops it’s better to use them with something that helps with ventilation and/or cooling.
Yeah u need to use it with charger if play game if u use the cooler boost fan the batery will drain faster as hell and the charging is a little bit slow
I am quite late here, and I got the 11uc version of this laptop, which is basically the exact same body with different specs, namely being that it has an i511400h, a 3050, and an 144hz display. There are a few things to note though; the speakers are horrendous, my phone gets louder than those speakers. It can get quite warm while just doing nothing except browsing the web, but interestingly enough; the GPU it never goes past 75 degrees C under heavy load, and the CPU 80 degrees C. Also don't really find the sharp edge thing a problem, although that may vary from person to person. The display is not bright enough in the day, I always find myself constantly trying to find something to cover the light with, and that's indoors, didn't take it outside just yet. I would talk about performance but that's irrelevant since they're 2 different specked laptops, although 8gb is not nearly enough, and it's single channel so it's a huge bottleneck that the company decided to cheap out on for a few extra bucks, which is a shame and the average Joe wouldn't figure out why it's not a great performing laptop and probably end up selling it for a cheap price instead of spending $20 on a single stick of 8gb ram. Just sticking in another stick of 8gb in there could double the fps in some extreme cases, will definitely 100% more than double the performance in more productive tasks like editing or photoshop or anything really, but if we're speaking realistically, it will probably give a nice 25% boost in games, which makes it much more than worth it. Although this is not only my first gaming laptop, it's my first computer as a whole, and I am more than satisfied with it.

And a 3 cell battery of 55W is supposed to be enough to power all that according to msi....
Well it doesn't alright severly underpowered.

Very informative video! Thank you so much for that! I'm thinking of buying this model with the Intel Core i5-10500H and
GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q 4 GB (versus ASUS TUF GAMING F15 FX506LH-HN004T with Intel Core i5-10300H-processor and
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 4 GB).
