Be sure to keep the video that captured the driver's crazy behavior. It may be useful in the future. This is a way to protect yourself!
Use Grab in the cities and busses (Five Star or Victory Line) are your best bet. I was lucky to have a family friend drive us around with a rented car. Taxis and any random person offering you services are a HUGE no-no!
My gf and i hired a private taxi to boracay from iloilo. No joke she puked 11 times! The driver scared the hell out of me, he was going over 110kph on 2 lane country rds, passing around corners. Just nuts. Glad you made it safe finally
I speak Cebuano and hiligaynon, I can understand them. The two filipinas got angry with your driver because he cut them off near a bridge 'taytay' in their language. She's saying that he almost caused them an accident and their family was with them. Your driver didn't hit them actually and said that they were the ones not giving him way. But probably the fear of being in an accident with your family members with you got them really angry. Be safe but still enjoy your journey.
Bro this is the part of travel vloggers life. Nothing will happen bro take care. Dont worry. You did the right thing by removing yourself from the situation.

There are big beautiful air conditioned Ceres bus going to Dumaguete non-stop. Its not crammed and quite comfortable. It is safe too. But good to know you are okay. Take care always buddy and thanks for visiting my hometown Bacolod city!

I got into a similar situation in Indonesia. Me, my wife and son were driving with a Driver from Grab, and he just turned right to turn around in the road, and a motorcycle hit the car on the right side and flew at least 5 meters. He started fighting with the driver, and at least 10 other people who saw it started pushing the car. I got super scared. Luckily, my wife's friend, who works close by, saw it, shouted that it was a kid in the car, and let the driver leave us at the hotel. My son slept through it all in the car and didn't notice a thing.
Life is a journey of ups and downs , full of good and bad doesn’t matter what country your in ….the more you do in life the more you will experience this 😊 Enjoy your journey…..
Shit happens anywhere. Thankfully you are okay. Most provincial buses wont stop for you if you are near their final stop. They cannot force you to be involve, testimonies are valid only if it is given voluntarily. just to be sure, have your country's embassy number on speed dial.
You’re a nice guy Zane…please be careful of you’re generosity. Seeing your video and noticing how kind you are, I hope you don’t fall prey to others that may want to take advantage of you, though you did stood your ground at first on that taxi saga, in the end your big hear took over…stay safe, fair winds and following seas kind traveler…
Zane, I'm the guy who said hi to you in Dumaguete; the guy who stopped his motorcycle and shook your hand as you were just sitting on the sidewalk, waiting for someone. What an unfortunate event you went through. But, anyways, I hope you enjoyed Dumaguete. It's actually where many expats choose to live. It's been voted as one of the Retirement Havens of the World by Forbes Magazine. But, yeah: what a FRIGGIN' day!!!
Hello, I planned to fly from iloilo to lapu lapu, rent a scooter and drive to Southern cebu, take ferry with the scooter to dumaguete and siquijor, then ferry back to cebu, and drive the scooter back to lapu lapu. What do you think ?
I’ve stayed in that exact same Airbnb and the same exact room! Rooms are expensive in Duma, because the demand is high and there isn’t many rooms available so they can make the prices high. The woman that owns the place is really sweet, she also owns the little clothing store next door. It’s not that bad, I just took a bird bath… with room temp water it’s not that bad. There is a nice bread store down below…
I’m sorry for what happened Zane. That must’ve been so scary. to experience that. Thank God you’re fine and everyone is fine. They weren’t talking in Tagalog so I couldn’t understand them. Taxi drivers are notorious for crazy driving just like most drivers here. Idk if they ignore the road rules or just don’t know. Anyways hope you’re enjoying your time in Dramaguette. Yup those expats are seniors. Hope you meet them…most are vloggers also. Get used to Filipino time and just chillax 😂
Zane, my option is still public transportation if I'm new to the place and I'm just alone. If ever I'll use private transportation, it's mostly with family members and relatives. So careful man.
The Ceres Bus has certain points in the cities where it officially stops. Because otherwise, you would never arrive you destination, if you just stop everywhere someone is waving hands. Only when your on the bus, you can ask the driver if he can let you at a certain point. Sorry but what do you expect? There is only one lane per direction! Does your Greyhound busses just stop somewhere along the roads? I feel sorry for you because of the accident of course. I only understood after 20 minutes what was going on though. btw, nice, 1000 Pesos. I think he would have brought you to Cebu for that money :D at least somebody got very happy this day :D Just use the Ceres bus next time, from Bacolod to Dumaguete. Nobody dares to cross the road in front of them. Even the really good ones with proper seats and aircon are just 500Peso for the whole route
Sorry you’ve had to experience such in my home country🙏God was with you still and hopefully that driver learned his lesson well! Goodluck and stay safe for the rest of your travels❤
If you went with any other option you wouldn’t have this story to remember about how you got to Dramagete for 1,000 pesos! You should definitely pay for the service provided… expecting a safe and sane trip is an unreasonable expectation… it’s the Philippines 🇵🇭
Hi Zane! My unsolicited advice for you is to take much bigger vehicles, if you want to travel long distance in the province, like bus than trikes or even taxi, more safer. Take care and God bless!
Hello, I planned to fly from iloilo to lapu lapu, rent a scooter and drive to Southern cebu, take ferry with the scooter to dumaguete and siquijor, then ferry back to cebu, and drive the scooter back to lapu lapu. What do you think ?
You dodged a bullet ...I'm a subscriber, lived in Thailand for 16 yrs. They do anything to "SAVE FACE" and never take responsibilty. You learned sumthing but I understand as I've been there too.... it's NOT comfortable cause police will usually blame foreigners. File this away as an experience and stay safe
Glad you made it safely - it'll be a good story later. Something like that happened to me in the Philippines about 13 years ago when I hired a private driver from Manila to Angeles City. Getting through Metro Manila was nuts and then just before we got on the Luzon Expressway the guy stopped by the toll plaza and crossed himself in the Catholic manner. I asked him what he was doing and he said he was praying for a safe drive. I joined in. In the Philippines, it's never just a straightforward drive somewhere. It's an ADVENTURE, haha!
Crazy Taxi turned Trike Patrol. Wild day indeed i hope everything gets better after this hurdle. Normally in the Philippines, the passenger isn't involved in anything traffic related incidents.
Great vid, I m planning a trip to iloilo, cebu, dumaguete, and siquijor, which is similar to your trip. But I decided to fly to cebu and rent a scooter and drive to Southern cebu and take the ferry to dumaguete and siquijor. What do you think ?
Of course you'll have to brake no matter who is not giving way. Don't let your ego get you and just brake period from a safe distance. Try to overtake only if the coast is clear. Don't race if you don't have the skill and patience.
Its no big deal but worth noting that its 6 hours by bus. They are air conditioned, never crammed, enough stops including an extended one for lunch. Movies playing and plenty comfortable. I found the bus to be prefable to car. I lived in Bacolod 3 years....
The driver did not deserve any payment in my opinion. I hope he learned a lesson there and will not drive like a crazed maniac. He should be very very grateful he did not take a life and received half the payment for gas to get him back. Stay safe Zane and hope the rest of stay will be smooth and fun!
As you've probably discovered by now, every journey on the road in the Philippines is perilous, full of near misses and chaos. It's just part of the culture there.
@ 22:00 you are walking down a street toward the beach. Where is your backpack? Did you leave the first AB&B and rent another and left your backpack there? I'm confused, which is not unusual. 🤣🤣 I was watching your First Day in Dumaguete video which you kept referencing THIS video, so I paused your First Day video... to get this video watched. Yep, messy situation. Ok. I'm heading back to your First Day in Dumaguete video. Mark in Dallas. 👍
Take care stay safe Sir your a very good vlogger and Ive always been watching your channel....try to take the bus next thankyou and I support your channel..
From the sound of the situation, yes the driver drove crazy, it is expected when you’re in the Philippines, those women being from Canada should have stayed away from road rage. I don’t condemn the driver to drive crazy but it’s already instilled in his brain from living in the Philippines that’s normal to him. Those women who got involved in the road rage, did they really think they won’t get run over?! They sound arrogant and full of themselves being from “Canada” You have to realize the Filipinos in the Western World think differently from Filipinos who actually resides in the Philippines. Anyway glad no one died! The Taxi driver is less privileged compared to the women from Canada. Dont feel cheated for paying him. I hope he does learn his lesson, but I doubt it. Stay safe!!
I can relate to your experience, Filipinos can be unpredictable sometimes and commutes and travels. But your vlog is great and i love watching your experience the Philippines.
Zane i watch your channel all the way from zürich Switzerland.thank god you are alright.Zane pls dont let the driver situation ruin your time in the philippines pls dont.by the way i am from Manila philippines.
Life and death is not determined by luck. Luck didn't place the sun in the sky. Luck doesn't keep the waves in place. Luck doesn't give us four seasons. There is a time be born and a time to die. In fact, He who placed the sun, holds the waves back and set the seasons says "I knew you when you were in your mother's womb and formed your muscles and have named you." "I have made the stars and each have a name. I hold each breath that you breath of the air I have made for you..." He is very specific in His love for you, Zane. Life and death have nothing to do with luck. Thank Him that you are still alive. He'll appreciate it and you might even engage in a conversation with Him, who loves you. Stay blessed, Zane. Mark, in Dallas.
Sorry for what happened and I'm glad no one perished. I hear Ilongo dialect in the argument, but I don't understand. It's my mom's dialect and she's from Capiz. I can only speak Tagalog. Remember, you are not the captain of the ship. Your driver is responsible for your safety.
That’s horrible 😢 tsk tsk be thankful it’s not nighttime. Pls. don’t give them your passport. And beware of modus most of them charge too much even it’s not your fault. Better to take videos while riding different public or private transportation to show more detailed evidences. Take care always and have a blessed trip
Car and people traffic are downright scary, dangerous, and awfully terrible anywhere you go in the Philippines. There’s no escaping! Makes me wonder if this “business associate” is sincerely going to give the full price
In Cambodia and Vietnam it's far safer to take a private car. The busses and minivan drivers are usually about 16yo and positively suicidal. Last time from siem reap to phnom penh the minibus driver was so terrifying even the Russians were complaining and Russians are lunatics.
My heart would have said to pay him nothing. The fact that he lied and twisted the story! If he gets some compensation after reckless driving and twisting the facts… this is bound to happen again.
God sent guardian angels to those women run off the road & to you. They must’ve prayed in that moment …Otherwise yes it could’ve been worse. Thank God for His protection. Thank you Jesus 🙏🏻. I always ask the hotel staff/ concierge which is best / safe transportation. Or ask locals. Be safe and hope all runs smoothly. From Filipina in California USA… new subscriber
For my long trips I take... Cooler with ice, fruit, juices and sandwiches. I buy a cooked chicken, cut it up and make chicken sandwiches. There with hot coffee! And my favorite honey roasted cashews!
You didnt do anything wrong so likely you wont get involved since you are just a passenger. Likely he just wants you to be a witness from the accident so he has a fighting chance thats why he wanted you to come along the police station but good choice for not coming along.
Either way be safe Zane, the local cities you are planning to go in the provinces arent really a touristy area even for a capital city so you are treading unknown waters
Those two Filipino women from Canada were also speeding… that’s called dangerous driving! I don’t know where they got their driver licences from but I don’t think they would dare to drive like that in Canada…
This is one abusive driver obviously. I think one good option is to report them to the police together with the video footage to teach them good lesson and also to help his victims
Zane, sorry to hear what happened on the road. I can understand their dialect. Your driver did apologise but the women were angry and saying the what he did was too dangerous that they could have been pushed them off the bridge. I believe your driver was also remorseful and frightened of what will be the outcome. He should have waited and not try to overtake Actually many drivers in the Philippines are like dangerous F1 racers but not their fault cos they have to manoeuvre out of the busy/messy road system. So, it became a habit learned not to wait and just overtake. In many busy city streets with no proper lanes, (maybe lanes are better nowadays) drivers have to be daring and filter or be stuck for half a day. If I may say this, driving in the Philippines is not for the faint hearted. Zane, may I suggest that for now you vlog more in Metro Manila areas and neighbouring provinces. No need to take ferry. Until you are really familiar with Philippine geography and travel systems. Metro Manila and surrounding provinces is big.
That sucks... Glad you are the ladies are safe... There are def. sketchy drivers from time to time, some drivers have a reputation for being drunks and into drugs... So it is good to avoid private operators and maybe find a reputable company? Also the Ceres bus does have designated stops now... It can be frustrating in a place with barely any sidewalks
Hi..bro..I watching your all vlogs but don't panic about that you experiencing in that taxi that's is a normal here in 🇵🇭 they can't understand each other.about something like the deal I think.....the other side if the bus ignoring you is they are full passengers, next time before you going another places just ask the locals what is the best way to take a ride bus or taxi, grab,or check in your Google..we apologize that kind of your experience but don't worry about that..don't panic..you can do what is wright..just relax bro..✌🏽♥️🇵🇭🙏..
Welcome to island/filipino time. Up to 2 to 3 hours late and the person is still on time. After 3 hours then they are running a little late. This is very common in the provinces.
Smart not to get involved. Some countries will blame YOU for the accident because YOU hired the taxi. Smart not to get involved but never ever hire a taxi for long distance trips in a foreign country
Glad Your okay Zane❤. Maybe this can be a great story for your travel diaries when you publish them in the future ❤ Hey it’s been very successful for Chris and Morgan❤
Charge to experience. It is still safer to take the bus or boat going around the area. Less convenient, but they are accuatomed to the places where they are going. Keep safe
I'm sorry to see something bad happen to you, but I'm happy that your thoughts and actions are correct. It's wise not to get involved in any side!
Although you wasted time and money, you gained safety and can continue traveling!
Your face looks like an angel, it has pros and cons, so be careful no matter what you do in the future!
You may encounter unsatisfactory things during your travels, so you should be open-minded and seize the moment!
I wish you all the best and happy travels! 👍🥰🙏
p. s. Be sure to keep the video that captured the driver's crazy behavior. It may be useful in the future. This is a way to protect yourself!
Bus is safer . Next time don't hire taxis or private cars for long travel because it's way expensive and fraught with danger
yea, private cars are also not registered with the regulatory agency and you cant sue them when something happens to you.
How about rent a scooter and take the ferry?
Use Grab in the cities and busses (Five Star or Victory Line) are your best bet. I was lucky to have a family friend drive us around with a rented car. Taxis and any random person offering you services are a HUGE no-no!

Classic case of road rage driving it’s dangerous 😮

Yes lots of stupid drivers here . They don’t give way to pedestrians . They think they’re the king of the road. They need road education .

Car and people traffic are downright scary, dangerous, and awfully terrible anywhere you go in the Philippines. There’s no escaping! Makes me wonder if this “business associate” is sincerely going to give the full price
Fries and rice are good too ;) I’m glad you made it safely .
Welcome to the Philippines. The way they drive there is crazy! No real rules there!
rice? rice.. rice? rice.. rice? 1 rice.... rice?
In Cambodia and Vietnam it's far safer to take a private car. The busses and minivan drivers are usually about 16yo and positively suicidal. Last time from siem reap to phnom penh the minibus driver was so terrifying even the Russians were complaining and Russians are lunatics.
You were left at Sibulan, just before it turns towards the town center.
My heart would have said to pay him nothing. The fact that he lied and twisted the story! If he gets some compensation after reckless driving and twisting the facts… this is bound to happen again.
Zane was there any damage to the vehicles . I just can’t see running someone off the road could cause so much trouble .
31:32 Philippine time is a real thing 😂
I've been watching your videos for a while now and can't believe the unlucky situations you can get in 😢
Don’t be upset your safe and make good content . Be happy life goes on .
For my long trips I take...
Cooler with ice, fruit, juices and sandwiches. I buy a cooked chicken, cut it up and make chicken sandwiches.
There with hot coffee!
And my favorite honey roasted cashews!
Take an aircon Bus much comfortable and safer
You didnt do anything wrong so likely you wont get involved since you are just a passenger. Likely he just wants you to be a witness from the accident so he has a fighting chance thats why he wanted you to come along the police station but good choice for not coming along.
Either way be safe Zane, the local cities you are planning to go in the provinces arent really a touristy area even for a capital city so you are treading unknown waters
Those two Filipino women from Canada were also speeding… that’s called dangerous driving! I don’t know where they got their driver licences from but I don’t think they would dare to drive like that in Canada…
Rome to Rio website says a taxi from Bacolod to Dumaguete should be $55-$75.
This is one abusive driver obviously. I think one good option is to report them to the police together with the video footage to teach them good lesson and also to help his victims
Lol you passed by our house!!!
Zane, sorry to hear what happened on the road. I can understand their dialect. Your driver did apologise but the women were angry and saying the what he did was too dangerous that they could have been pushed them off the bridge. I believe your driver was also remorseful and frightened of what will be the outcome. He should have waited and not try to overtake
Actually many drivers in the Philippines are like dangerous F1 racers but not their fault cos they have to manoeuvre out of the busy/messy road system.
One more thing zane always bargain.you will be fine zane.😊
Bacolod port to Capitol Lagoon ₱150
Few Kilometres to Dumaguete: ₱1,000.
Bacolod trike fare now justified
if you help the guy, even though he did something wrong, the hope is that it makes him help someone.
And forgot to add, fair play talking to his boss and paying him some cash in the end. Good job for that and I subbed as well
Always take care Zane❤🇵🇭
That sucks... Glad you are the ladies are safe... There are def. sketchy drivers from time to time, some drivers have a reputation for being drunks and into drugs... So it is good to avoid private operators and maybe find a reputable company?
Also the Ceres bus does have designated stops now... It can be frustrating in a place with barely any sidewalks
Glad you ok Zane Stay Safe And God Bless 🙏🙏🙏✌️👍👍👍👍👍👍💕🇺🇸
Oh its normal here for taxi driver drive like that. Canadians and Americans are very new to this.
You are such a nice guy. They financially took advantage of you. If you had paid 200 pesos for the tric driver, that would have been plenty.
Be safe brother,,, enjoy,, come back to iloilo on january experience dinagyang festival,, the most unique and happy festival in the phillippines,,,
Welcome to island/filipino time. Up to 2 to 3 hours late and the person is still on time. After 3 hours then they are running a little late. This is very common in the provinces.
OH MY GOD PLS TAKE CARE ZANE GOD BLESS
Smart not to get involved. Some countries will blame YOU for the accident because YOU hired the taxi. Smart not to get involved but never ever hire a taxi for long distance trips in a foreign country
You are a good man Zane, I am sure God will always protect and guide you. Keep safe man and God bless.
Are you still in Dumaguete? Try going to Wuthering Heights so you can relax 😊. Take care
I think you should have given him some money. He did drive you close to Dumaguete for many many hours.
Keep safe
It's just a typical Tuesday in the Philippines. 😁
