I'm sorry to see something bad happen to you, but I'm happy that your thoughts and actions are correct. It's wise not to get involved in any side!
Although you wasted time and money, you gained safety and can continue traveling!
Your face looks like an angel, it has pros and cons, so be careful no matter what you do in the future!
You may encounter unsatisfactory things during your travels, so you should be open-minded and seize the moment!
I wish you all the best and happy travels! 👍🥰🙏
    p. s. Be sure to keep the video that captured the driver's crazy behavior. It may be useful in the future. This is a way to protect yourself!

After watching the video, both seem to be at fault, as a biker myself, if a car wants to overtake you, let them, never get into a fight with a cage driver as at the end of the day only the biker will come out worse. They admitted to that they were speeding and didn't want him to pass them, and if they tell the cops that, both will get done for speeding and dangerous driving for than likely. Least everyone was able to walk away from it, that's the most important thing

Bus is safer . Next time don't hire taxis or private cars for long travel because it's way expensive and fraught with danger

Use Grab in the cities and busses (Five Star or Victory Line) are your best bet. I was lucky to have a family friend drive us around with a rented car. Taxis and any random person offering you services are a HUGE no-no!

My gf and i hired a private taxi to boracay from iloilo. No joke she puked 11 times! The driver scared the hell out of me, he was going over 110kph on 2 lane country rds, passing around corners. Just nuts.
Glad you made it safe finally

I speak Cebuano and hiligaynon, I can understand them. The two filipinas got angry with your driver because he cut them off near a bridge 'taytay' in their language. She's saying that he almost caused them an accident and their family was with them. Your driver didn't hit them actually and said that they were the ones not giving him way. But probably the fear of being in an accident with your family members with you got them really angry.
Be safe but still enjoy your journey.

The Ceres Bus has certain points in the cities where it officially stops. Because otherwise, you would never arrive you destination, if you just stop everywhere someone is waving hands. Only when your on the bus, you can ask the driver if he can let you at a certain point. Sorry but what do you expect? There is only one lane per direction! Does your Greyhound busses just stop somewhere along the roads?
I feel sorry for you because of the accident of course. I only understood after 20 minutes what was going on though.
btw, nice, 1000 Pesos. I think he would have brought you to Cebu for that money :D at least somebody got very happy this day :D
Just use the Ceres bus next time, from Bacolod to Dumaguete. Nobody dares to cross the road in front of them. Even the really good ones with proper seats and aircon are just 500Peso for the whole route

What an unfortunate event you went through. But, anyways, I hope you enjoyed Dumaguete. It's actually where many expats choose to live. It's been voted as one of the Retirement Havens of the World by Forbes Magazine. But, yeah: what a FRIGGIN' day!!!

I got into a similar situation in Indonesia. Me, my wife and son were driving with a Driver from Grab, and he just turned right to turn around in the road, and a motorcycle hit the car on the right side and flew at least 5 meters. He started fighting with the driver, and at least 10 other people who saw it started pushing the car. I got super scared. Luckily, my wife's friend, who works close by, saw it, shouted that it was a kid in the car, and let the driver leave us at the hotel.
My son slept through it all in the car and didn't notice a thing.

It's all part of traveling and adventure. I listened to the driver and he was VERY apologetic. He knew he made a wrong decision and he knows that he's guilty. Those women were right and hysterical to the point of being violent. Zane, no need to be sentimental or apologetic. That's ALL part of experience. Take it or stop traveling. Good luck and enjoy the rest of your island adventure. Just for the record, I travel a lot. Last year i went to five countries here in Europe. This year, I traveled to another five countries. I am lame and have to ask people to help me board a train or taxi driver had to be told not to rush, etc.

From the sound of the situation, yes the driver drove crazy, it is expected when you’re in the Philippines, those women being from Canada should have stayed away from road rage. I don’t condemn the driver to drive crazy but it’s already instilled in his brain from living in the Philippines that’s normal to him. Those women who got involved in the road rage, did they really think they won’t get run over?! They sound arrogant and full of themselves being from “Canada”
You have to realize the Filipinos in the Western World think differently from Filipinos who actually resides in the Philippines.
Anyway glad no one died! The Taxi driver is less privileged compared to the women from Canada. Dont feel cheated for paying him. I hope he does learn his lesson, but I doubt it.

Your video just came up randomly on my feed. Thanks for sharing your experience. Welcome to the Philippines. Having visited the Philippines on many occasions, your experience isn't anything too unusual. Sadly Pinoys don't drive carefully which pretty much explains the number of accidents that one sees. It's way too easy to get a driving licence. They might as well give them away in cereal boxes. LOL I've driven a few times there and you really have to have your wits about you. As you probably noticed road rules are optional and might is right. I suspect your road trip was anything but relaxing or restful. Personally, I would not have paid the driver, but did as you did and that's pay the company. Did you get a receipt? Regarding the business associate not keeping the meet up appointment. 1. I'm a bit surprised as it involved him/her receiving money. 2. Filipinos are not known for their punctuality. Think Mexican time. You will notice the same in Thailand. Just one thing to be aware of. I'm glad you didn't name the driver or show his face. In the Philippines you can find yourself in very deep trouble if you say something about a Filipino that they don't like. Especially when it comes to identifying them when it comes to allegations of any wrong doing. As you said he got off Scott free with allegedly running those two Canadian Filipinas off the road. The explanation would probably go a little like this. The two Filipinas may not hold Philippines citizenship (just Canadian). They were there as tourists. He's a local so the barangay captain is more likely to believe his story over those of tourists unless there is compelling video evidence to support their claim(s). It's how things roll in the Philippines. Also when it comes to compensation there is a mindset with nearly all Filipinos that foreign tourists are wealthy and ripe for the picking / extortion / exploitation no matter what your actual financial status may be. Take care and safe travels.

Glad you made it safely - it'll be a good story later. Something like that happened to me in the Philippines about 13 years ago when I hired a private driver from Manila to Angeles City. Getting through Metro Manila was nuts and then just before we got on the Luzon Expressway the guy stopped by the toll plaza and crossed himself in the Catholic manner. I asked him what he was doing and he said he was praying for a safe drive. I joined in. In the Philippines, it's never just a straightforward drive somewhere. It's an ADVENTURE, haha!

If you believe in Karma, trying to lower the price of those glasses from 150 pesos to 100 is rude. This isn’t Hong Kong where prices are five times higher. The people selling things that you try to bargain with are just trying to make enough to feed their families. A lot of time it's not even enough. If you can't afford a pair of $3 glasses then maybe you should not be traveling. If Karma is real, I wonder how it will affect you.

Thinking that you should be dead because you thought something would’ve happened is absolutely ridiculous thinking. Do not think like that. You should be grateful that you escaped the situation. But don’t ever think I should be dead because you’re just placing yourself in a situation that you imagined in your head. That’s not healthy. Why did you leave Thailand and go to the Philippines? You should just stay in Thailand, where it’s fun and safe and everybody’s cool like Fonzie.

I think this driver is at fault, dangerous, and should lose his job and/or his license for causing that almost deadly accident.
But you should still pay him at least the 5,000 for the majority of the trip. Because you saw his driving and chose to stay with him. The accident is on him, totally. Voluntarily staying with him for 70-80% of a 7,000peso ride after noticing him drive dangerously? Sorry, but that's on you.
Hope your future travels are better. Take care.

Bus 9 hours and P500.....not sure who or where you got your info from but its not correct.... P295 for non aircon or p380 for aircon and 6 hours will do it...I realise content creators like to dramatise things but, facts are always better than fiction. ..when traveling in Philippines always good and sometimes necessary to have plan a and plan b and if needed plan c. What can go wrong, will go wrong on ocassions.

Life and death is not determined by luck. Luck didn't place the sun in the sky. Luck doesn't keep the waves in place. Luck doesn't give us four seasons. There is a time be born and a time to die. In fact, He who placed the sun, holds the waves back and set the seasons says "I knew you when you were in your mother's womb and formed your muscles and have named you." "I have made the stars and each have a name. I hold each breath that you breath of the air I have made for you..." He is very specific in His love for you, Zane. Life and death have nothing to do with luck. Thank Him that you are still alive. He'll appreciate it and you might even engage in a conversation with Him, who loves you.
Stay blessed, Zane. Mark, in Dallas.

Are you for real? The way you throw money around is unreal . That is what drives prices up. From what you described, the Filipinas were passing your driver and crashed avoiding an accident. You already paid for the trip but get shookdown for another 3000P. Catching the bus is easy. Get on the edge of the road and flag them down. When you get a room at an unfamiliar hotel ask to look at the room then you know if they have hot water. And finally, don't give a trike 1000P for a short ride.

I bought me a brand new car cash 10 months ago! I have been in the philippines now 5 years. I have learned not to do business with them! Your a foreigner and its ok to them to cheat and get over on you. Don't give yourself a bad experience here in the philippines by doing business with them. You will lose everytime. If you buy a scooter or a car. Buy it brand new from a dealership and pay cash!!

In Cambodia and Vietnam it's far safer to take a private car. The busses and minivan drivers are usually about 16yo and positively suicidal. Last time from siem reap to phnom penh the minibus driver was so terrifying even the Russians were complaining and Russians are lunatics.

The bigger vehicle has right of way. Truck vs car, car vs pedestrian. No right of way for pedestrians. Yes you were wise don't get mixed up in an argument. Yes it was all your fault if you had stayed home in the US it would never have happened. So the driver is upset with you too.

You are a young man, so you need to learn that a little polite assertiveness goes a long way. I have been to the Philippines, always make it clear from the start of a road trip that any speeding or unsafe driving is unacceptable. Since you said nothing and he took you most of the way, you should have paid him 2 or 3k out of the 5k that was agreed. It appears to me that he was not the only one 'out of control', the ladies were also at fault, following him with their own rage, hell-bent on teaching him a lesson. As a professional driver with a truck license, I have learned to keep my discipline no matter what other drivers do on the road, to see bad driving habits from a distance and to anticipate an incident before it happens. Stay clear from bad drivers and avoid situations to the best of your ability.

Whenever you pay for a taxi lump sum, they will drive fast as opposed to a metter taxi. As you can see he drove too fast and wild. I have had crazy drivers and even had 1 driver from the airport late night and he fell asleep 2 times. I was in the front seat and grabbed his steering wheel several times. To me its not worth saving 1000 pesos for your life. Have a nice day!
