Also, apparently no one painted their subjects as being exceptionally yellow! I'm not sure why I didn't connect that yellow = age, but here we are, me watching your restoration videos and seeing how light all these skintones really are. Fascinating.
1:14 "And that was probably the result of mishandling on the dealer's end, though the dealer did not own up to that..." Baumgartner, mentally, during the period of displeased silence: *Coward*

"Generally.. No." The attitude and confidence are one of the biggest reasons why you're a great conservator. If you're not confident in your skills, your client won't be either.
Right? it must be equally as awesome for the client, they get to see a blow by blow break down of everything they paid for, the love and care involved.
Funny how that statement hit home with me. I rebuild old tube amplifiers as a hobby.. and I thoroughly enjoy working in absolute silence. I get so into my job at hand that I don't need distraction.
He must change tasks to stave off going crazy. Doing multiple tedious tasks throughout the day takes a special kind of person. Being able to view the piece of art at the end is greatly appreciated.
One thing that I would love to see is a video of you reacting to terrible conservations or really messed up paintings! Idk I just feel like it could be a fun video.
Sure would like to know the final cost of a restoration like this, the cost of materials, and the total number of hours involved. I imagine the bill for this job is quite hefty.
When I see how you've taken an item that is badly damaged, poorly preserved, left to the divisiveness of time, and taken nearly to the state that hand whom made meant it to be, one can do little more than smile gratifiably at your efforts. I'm certain the artist would bestow many blessings on your head for given his a work a loving touch.
I cant imagine the amount of patience that is needed to do this job... I admire you so much for what you are doing. You are an excellent example of having love for the job one has selected.
"A lot of people thought I was damaging the painting" oh no, we do know you know what you're doing! We're just very emotionally invested in these videos (and the paintings). Amazing video as always!
From one conservator to another. I wait for your videos. I find them very relaxing. I wish I could do what you do. Granted my medium is much different. I conserve Cello's. I know I always get, "but the patina"; when I clean them. Sorry, the patina is nothing but rotted glue, resin, rosin, or just dirt. The instrument is much happier with all that grime off of it so it can breath again. I love the passion you have for your work.
As a amateour-ish cello player I would love to see the process of cello conservation! I know it exists but to be honest I have no idea how it looks ot what is involved.
@@Malcadicta What is involved is a lot of time consuming boredom. Just like with paintings it takes days and weeks to properly conserve a cello. A lot of time is in educating the owner in the difference between patina and dirt. Just because it's old dirt doesn't make it valuable. It's still just dirt. Yes you have to e careful on the original staining and lensing of the instrument, but in many cases it has been damaged beyond repair by past conservation efforts. In many cases you have to humidify the instrument to give the wood elasticity before you can start working on the inside. I find revoiceing the instrument the most rewarding part of the process. Giving it's voice back.
LittleHappyBeing no, he has 20 years of experience as a conservator, so he is in his yearly fourties, or late thirties EDIT: misunderstood what you wrote

I find great peace in watching Julian take something that once beautiful but which is now damaged and then restore it to wholeness and beauty again. It’s a parable of sorts to the way with help we ourselves can be restored to wholeness and beauty. May God bless you on your way to peace.

Tery Wood Sr. Would absolutely watch your channel! Get some content up, my friend!
Yes, I would love to see this kind of process on a cello! You should start making videos too!
