    As someone with capped shoulders, adding extra to the top and then doing tiny gathers at the center top to make it fit the arm hole, absolutely helps. Can’t wait to combine that with this tip!

    Hi there, great video, great narration and details! Just one question, now that the cap peak is lower wouldn’t it completely change the “attachment angle” of the sleeves? (Used to be more vertical but now more raised)? Isn’t there a way not to affect the sleeve angle?

    When you are opening your video and that loud music just comes on strong... I almost did not watch any of your video. I am sure you mean well but that introduction music is to much. Harsh

    Would this work for a raglan sleeve ?

  • @normbutler22
    @normbutler22 3 місяці тому

    Hi Seamatress Sarah, how do you make this adjustment without shortening the sleeve cap height?

    • @myrubbishusername
      @myrubbishusername 3 місяці тому

      Hi Norm. The sleeve cap height shouldn’t need adjusting unless you are adding a lot of width in the adjustment. Although the sleeve cap height gets shorter when the pattern is flat, if you take your paper pattern and position it to recreate the curve of the original sleeve cap, you will see that the sleeve folds up a bit where there has been additional space added for the bicep. When setting the sleeve the same thing happens - the sleeve cap will fit the arm hole opening and manoeuvring it to fit the arm hole will form a ‘bulge’ at the bicep position where the additional fabric has been inserted.
      If you are adding a lot of distance across the bicep in this adjustment, maybe more than 2.5cm, then you can use the original sleeve pattern and trace the original sleeve cap shape onto your new pattern piece. If you do this, use the edge of a tape measure to measure the length of the original sleeve cap and the length of your new, extended sleeve cap. Take the difference in measurement and divide that by 2. You will need to add that amount to both the front and back body pieces in the armhole to make space for the larger sleeve. You can either re-draw the armhole opening dropping it slightly lower at the bottom to give this extra space in the opening, or you can extend the body out to the side at the underarm (or half and half) depending on the fit of your garment.
      I hope that makes sense!

    You assume everyone sews with patterns. Nope. Altering a pattern, does nothing for an existing garment. You are making something harder, than it has to be. There is more than one way, to do something. This is my perspective.
