"You have always been the caretaker." This whole film feels as eerie and of-setting as that line in the shining. The ending sequence is a hazing ritual, completely breaking jay down and leaving him with nothing, suggesting he would go on to be indoctrinated into the cult and become leader/ figure-head.

I bought ‘Kill List’ on a whim when it was first released and knew nothing about it. . . Boy, was I glad I did. I have been recommending it to people ever since.

This is just one of those films that absolutely blew my mind when I first saw it. I saw the cast, had no idea of the premise and just expected a Danny Dyer-esque cockney action film, but what you get is probably one of the best British modern folk horror films. Great review lads.

This is one of my favourite films of all time. Brilliant performances, and a real brain twister. Jay is actually being groomed as the Antichrist, but to explain it would involve writing an essay. There's a full explanation online, and I thoroughly recommended reading it. As bizarre as it sounds, it actually makes sense.

Have a good one, Shelfers! 👊
    The Wasteland Shelfer (p.5)
Taking his last chomp of hellbird wing, our lone Shelfer throws the bones into the boot of his battle buggy. "These should come in useful later," he thinks, as he sits into his cockpit to reach his first stop at Traders Bluff on his way to the fabled sanctuary of Shelferville. Clipping his viewing device onto his belt to listen to Gary and Iain suffering the Hellraiser playlist, the Shelfer feels wistful of times past after the atomic war, hoping he can reach Shelferville before too long. The Sun is now rising on the desert wastes, as the battle buggy races forward with little effort in the harsh, irradiated landscape. A few hours and a few encounters with the Totem sentries, which pose little problem for the battle buggy, Shelfer stops at a rusted sign, written in what looks like blood, not so much as a warning these days, but usually due to the lack of ink/paint, reads: Traders Bluff, 200 limps with an arrow pointing the way towards mountains, which look close, so we move on. Shelfers' keen eyes see a problem, where he should see a shanty town on the horizon, representing Traders Bluff, he sees flames, even as they blend in with the yellow rust of the surroundings. Pressing the blue button, Shelfer brings the defensive grill over the buggy as he draws close to see Traders Bluff has been razed to the ground with charred corpes' strewn everywhere. Shelfer leaves the safety of his buggy with one hand on his sawn of three barrelled shotgun on his belt at the ready, to investigate the screaming old lady, who points towards the valley "raiders took the women and children!" she screams with her last breath before she passes into silence. Shelfer looks towards his buggy, looks at the town ablaze, and then looks towards the valley, the opening only wide enough to walk through. Shelfer grabs a metal whistle from the chain around his neck and blows, no sound emits, but is clearly heard by the bear which approaches, as fast as a race horse the brown grizzly bear races from the horizon and stops at our Shelfers side. The Grizzly bear is tooled up with guns and grenades, extra clips of ammunition, and bottles of water, all attached to a leather waist coat around the back of the bear. Shelfer looks at his tame friend and instructs: "We're going into that Valley, Sardine .To kill us some raiders." Sardine the bear responds with a low growl and a nod, as they both head towards the opening of the valley...

Brilliant movie. I was bought it as a gift a good while back and I have to admit I didn't watch it, I put it aside and forgot it. Then... one night I was going through my collection looking for something to watch and there it was, waiting... Fantastic movie and I wonder if the makers of Hereditary had seen it as there are hints of this movie in there.

I quite enjoyed the first half of Meg2. As for Kill List, for anyone who likes this great (but acquired taste?) movie, have a look at his other movie 'A Field in England'. I love that one more. It has amazing performances (especially Michael Smiley) and contains one of the most mind-blowingly weird scenes I've ever seen in any movie. I would recommend 'Dead Mans Shoes' which is a film by Shane Meadows that gave me a similar vibe to this film.
