Hello Stefan! Thank you so much for your work! I really enjoy watching your videos. I would be pleased to know more technical details about the locomotive. For instance, the nature of motor(no of poles, type), mechanism ( hauling power, weight of the locomotive, number of driven axles, presence of traction tyres, type of pick up, ease of maintenance), number of cylinders, amount of details included in model, and price. I would also love to see some details regarding how the locomotive turns on tight curve. For instance, I suspect that this model has axles with lateral sideplay(golsdorf system), just like real life.
Hello Chandal, I am glad to read that you like my videos! 😃 The BR44 was a heavy duty freight train locomotive driven by three cylinders. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DRG_Class_44 This Maerklin locomotive was produced from 1997 until 2002. Originally equipped with a three pole drum collector motor with a field coil, this model was upgraded with a five star digital high performance engine from Maerklin (60941). Thereby I changed the PTFE bearing to a ball bearing. The motor-shield equipped with a ball bearing as well. So the necessity of maintenance is as low as possible - (no more creeping oil on the collector). The locomotive chassis is based on a flexible hinged frame. The lateral side play of each axle is suited for the Maerklin type spur gear regularly used till the mid 2000s. So all five coupled axles are driven. The loco is equipped with four traction tires on the C and E axle. A 360mm radius (R1) is no problem for this machine. It performs very well even on badly routed old metal tracks. The average-price for purchasing a stock-machine here in Germany is currently between 140 and 160€. The digital high performance 5-star engine costs about 25€ and the decoder is currently available for 95€. Including the Modellbahn-Additive parts, LEDs, wires and shrink hoses, the material price is at a rough estimate about 310€ for this machine without shipment or any labour costs. Last depend on the essential effort to fullfill the customers request. I hope I could answer most of your questions. For the future I will try to add some more technical information to my videos. Thanks for your request - it is highly appreciated! 🙂 Kind regards, Stefan
@@Modellbahn-Additive Thank you so much for your quick reply. I have seen some old marklin models with hinged frames to negotiate tighter curves than real life. I suspect that since coupling rods cannot transmit power when the two driver axles are not parallel, the model uses gears on all wheels. This adjustment is needed in older models, even though the real life locomotive has golsdorf system with a rigid frame. Would love to see the underbelly/frame of locomotives, which is not shown in other model railway channels. Also, I would love to see how the real life maximum speed looks like in the model. Ofcourse on paper it is 1/87 th the actual speed, but the model locomotives do not seem to have this ceiling. So, most of the times the wheels look unnatural while running at full speed. I hope dcc models mimic the real life acceleration, deceleration, and slipping of a real locomotive. Thank you so much for your replies. I wish you a very hsppy christmas in advance, and I hope your channel grows quickly!
