- The Coast Guard is one of the most selective services to join due to size. Today I speak with a Coast Guard recruiter about the minimum ASVAB requirements to join as well as how selective the Coast Guard can be.

Hey everyone, sorry for the issues with the sound at the end of the video. In summary, you can join our free FB group to connect with other's who are training for CG boot camp. Links are in the description.
Hey I know it's kind of late but there's a to get around the Asvab?
I got an ~85 and didn't study, wasn't even a good high school student, just took it
Nice
I got a 70? 72? On my ASVAB, and my recruiter tells me that if I’m 5 points away from certain jobs they can waive you into the job/rate, just FYI. So don’t be discouraged if you didn’t get the perfect score, maybe you were really close and they will make the exception if you’re 5 points away. But in that case, you’ll really need to prove yourself and excel in all areas especially then, don’t let yourself and the service down.
I got a 63
My VE+AR is 99. Can I still try to become a ME or do I need to make it to 100?
I got a 74 on my ASVAB 🎉
Congrats
I’m trying to meet with each branch and I’m very excited to meet with the Cost Guard recruiter soon!!!! I’m seeing myself being part of this branch more and more.
Did you ever meet with a coast guard recruiter?
You completed boot camp?
I did meet with a recruiter, got a 75 AFQT score, passed MEPS, but I ended up not joining for other personal reasons. But I wish y’all all the best!
I suck at the math
That’s bad
I just got a AFQT score of 64 two days ago...I didn't study...
What are you gonna do?
Still thinking about it?
could you possibly talk about transitioning from branch to branch and how that process goes? im currently active AF wanting to switch to active duty CG
As am I. Where are you in the process?
I got a 63
So as long as you are a good person that follows orders you don't have to be genius.
Hola! Weird question! Can you go A - School pregnant? I'm about to join, I'm married and would like to have children, I would like to be Yeoman but my asvab score was 43 too low to choose a job, Im from Puerto Rico Island so my first language is Spanish.. I study hard but still get a low score,... I'm 26 and I'm wondering if with the time I get pregnant will affect me to go A - School. Gracias Thank you!!!! Be bless
Don't have children that'll mess things up
MJ I appreciate you so much man, you always ask the right questions and you let the interviewee spout off without interruption and I feel like it gets them to speak with more substance than other military related interview focused channels I've come across. Thank you for your work!
Yw!
Just a heads up at the end of your vids when u are talking there’s no sound in this vid it’s starts at 6:12- 6:32
thanks, yes audio issue
Any videos for prior service members, for example Marines? My husband is considering jumping ship and would like some more information on the process?
I was the CG from 90-96 and then, of all the prior service enlistees, it seemed that Marines were the largest #. As for the process, he'd have to talk to a recruiter
Still waiting on a call from the coast Guard🤦🏾♂️
Still waiting?
So how'd it go
Felt
Would having two associates degrees and are currently pursuing a bachelors make you more likely to be selected?
I got an 88 is that okay?
That’s really good. Especially if you did well on the maths, you can do the more technical jobs or be a gunner
Scored an 80 myself. Most folks are lucky to score a 36 or 40 lol. Your in the top bud. Do anything you pretty well want job wise.
Hey man I just graduated but I struggle with math Is that ganna stop me from joining ?
Maybe limit jobs but that's about it
Do you have to take the Asvab again if your asvab score is good for whatever job? I’m about to go in and I made an 84 and I really don’t want to take it again so would I have to or no?
Bro run with that 84
@@AEJD300 I’m surprised I made that I’m usually a bad test taker and I think I got the third highest score this one guy got a 99 or a 98
@@katelyn6941 If I were u I would run with that bro people like me are struggling just to straight up pass bro🤦🏽♂️ but Congrats dude✊🏾
@@AEJD300 thanks honestly and I wish you the best on getting whatever score you need too 😊
@@katelyn6941 Thanks bro I most certainly going to pass the next one I have GOD on my side 🙏🏾
Can you link the study materials that you suggest?..
What asvab score is need to be a msrt?
A 39 on ASVAB?
Rich Layman that’s good
No it’s not that’s a really low score I scored a 79 and that’s a high score with good rates
@@jasondaricus4513 lol it’s good enough, but you won’t get prime rate selection unless you test better. I would study and try again for a 70/80
that's good for the Army
Thank for all the great content man. Wondering if you have any info, or could point me in the direction of someone who does, for prior service from a different branch going into the Coast Guard? Thanks
Just email a recruiter. You don't have to sign up for anything.
Greetings Julian, my name is Daniel. I and planning on enlisting in the Coast Guard after I graduate next year. As a newbie at all this I wanted to ask a question that has been on my mind for a bit.
I want to be a part of the Icebreakers/Ice Patrol or something along those lines. I heard in one of your recent videos about A School where you can kind of go and learn about the career path you want to take or at least what is available for someone. Anything you can tell me about that? My honest dream is to be a Coast Guardsman so it is not a huge deal but being part of the icebreakers is something I've dreamt of doing. Anything you can tell helps
God bless and Semper Paratus ⚓🇺🇲
I'm graduating next year too and wanting to enlist
You might be able to get on an icebreaker. put it on your dream sheet in a school and if you dont get it there than choose a rating where your chances of getting on one are higher. its just a job though, not a career icebreaking
I’m stationed on a ice breaker out of Cleveland as a non rate right now. Other than the polar star you can put down D9 and ask for an ice breaking tug. There are several in the Great Lakes. It’s not a bad gig. I can’t say it’s what I wanted to do or planned on but for a first unit it works out. Feel free to ask me any questions you might have on ice breaking and I can try to help you.
@@militaryjourneymen Thank you so much for your advice. Good luck on your journey my friend and God bless. Semper Paratus
@@awsomeman62 I'm sorry for my ignorance since this is the first time I've really put much thought it, but what is D-9? And when would I do all this?
Hi ,Im jeff bishop
Hi Jeff
Well its either this or the army, If you have poor grades through high school can you still join the coast guard even if you have a high ASVAB score? I saw that the GPA you need is like 3.7 and I don't have that. and dont think I will get up to that.
that might be for the acedemy
