Former U.S. Army, did my 8 years, and wanted to change my focus after I graduated from college and got my Bachelor's degree, going from being an MP in the U.S. Army to Sear and Rescue Aviation USCG.
I love the coast guard
Currently 20 year old female. Have 1 year of college classes and currently am studying Clinical Massage Therapy. I’m thinking of joining the coast guard and hopefully do HS. I also was am a competitive swimmer water polo player, lifeguard and water safety instructor and that’s what is really driving my passion to do the Coast Guard. Besides benefits what drives people to join?
I'm 20 and currently in the process of joining the CG Reserves. Boot camp is July 9th. Do you have any training tips or advice on things to know before boot camp? What basic life skills should I know beforehand? I'd join active duty, but I want to finish college first. Wish I had tried joining earlier.

What type of physical condition do you have to be in order to join? What type of water training do they do? I'm only 14 and i don't really know how to swim I'm not really strong but I'm starting training but I wanna be able to do that type of training. Where are some if the places that you get deployed tos?
What if a person who has a bachelor's degree has a few dwi misdemeanors within a 10 year time span but no felonies be given a waiver?

How do people deal with sea sickness in the Coast Guard. I've been on a fishing boat medium sized no more than 5 times. I would be fine as long as the boat would be cruising, but once the boat stopped and anchored down, the motion of the boat and the waves hitting the boat is what really gets me dizzy/nauseous. Maybe it's something I can hopefully get used to? What's your advice? And opinion in people getting sea sick.
I agree. Try the Dramamine as it seems to work best. I've been on boats where LOTS of people got sea sick. The problem is the fluid moving around the small cilia hairs inside the semi-circular canals of your inner ear. Side to side motion, like swells hitting the boat from the side causes the fluid to move side to side as well as forward and backward and up and down as the boat moves forward and up and down waves, sometimes all at the same time. Sounds sickening just to think about it. Dramamine usually works best and it helps. Best of luck!
I come from a very cut throat construction world working a lot of hours. Many many house and long days with hard psychical laboring. While after working with the same crew for a decade now everyone gets along but it was very much Everyman for himself.

How old would you say is the average age of someone to enlist in coast guard? I’m getting my Bachelors and Masters, and I’ll be 23 by the time that’s over...is that a late start for an enlisted? I know it’s not past the age limit, but in general will I be older than everyone?

Can you join the Coast Guard with a guaranteed job contract? For instance, I’m thinking about joining to become a Public Affairs Specialist and was wondering if the Coast Guard offers contracts?

can I join with a dui I got 2years ago? I’m 25 and stuck at a federal DOD job I need to step it up. Do you prefer reserve or active? What’s the pros and cons? How do I do this for 4 years and get out and get a decent living in the civilian world? Is there a program to help me get a degree in a certain field paying 70k a year or something? I’m lost. Thanks. Oh and I live in Hawaii it’s expensive as fuck.

Im currently a EMT. Currently getting myself for Paramedic school. I want to be a flight medic in the coast guard. I have a strong intrest in HS and AST. Would I be able to become a paramedic while in the coast guard, if im just a EMT?

what's the oldest you can join for a to active duty and if I have 60 or college credits can I join as an E3?
As long as you have above 60 credit hours you can come in as an E3 you don't have to have an associate's degree that's how it was for me

Harley Russell Yeah, I think the AFQT is one of the main things determining what jobs you can get. I got a 98 AFQT but already decided way before that that I wanted to be a storekeeper since I'm gonna be an econ major. Wonder if I should've chosen something else lol.
Do reservists make the same as active duty?
only join the reserves if you want to go to one of the coast guard's schools to become an electrician or policeman for example and they wont pay for all your college but theyll help a good deal

I was thinking of joining after highschool. I'm 16 at the moment. I'm not that good at math so does that mean I will get a lower job? I was looking into either Maritime Enforcement, Aviation Survival Technician, or Boatswain's Mate. Another issue is that I have a few self-harm scars that are visible in my arms will I be able to get a waiver for that by any means? During boot camp can I wear long sleeves to not draw attention to my arm during boot camp? Another thing is I am vegetarian will be vegetarian options at bootcamp or will I have to make an adjustment? At USCG boot camp will there be separate showers for women or it's like a sports locker room? Will I be able to remain in the same city or will I have to move near the shore/sea? Another thing is how the Coast Guard reserve is like? I will go to university abroad after the Coast Guard will the officers look at you as lower class since you did not go to University before joining? When I join the Coast Guard will I jave time for hobbies like boxing or are some shifts 12 hours?

I am from Indiana, no where close to the coast. I know for the other branch reserves you drill locally. Does that go for the coast guard as well?

I have a question. One that you may or may not know the answer to. Does the coast guard allow autistic people in? Would I need a waiver? If they don't allow autistic people in, That's fine. I'll just continue with my path of becoming a police officer.

Coffee Fresh If I were you, I'd join active duty ASAP since you wouldn't get many other chances and you'd have to join the reserves unless you would be able to get a waiver.
