      A lesser interviewer would have shirked the important questions or did what media people usually do when sitting in front of a member of the royal family - tugged their forelocks and behaved obsequiously. Maitlis played her part superbly and deserves a huge amount of credit for a job well done.

    The interview was impeccable. The end where Emily asks the prince, if he has any final words? Perhaps a morsel of humility, empathy and consideration for the victims, he says “No, I don’t think so” smugly. It was horrific.

    Remarkable interview. For me it exposed Andrews complete sense of entitlement to the point he believed he could say anything no matter how implausible to explain away his behaviour and the general public would give him the benefit of the doubt.

      @@ajs41 officially, that's true. He settled out of court before the trial so we'll never know. Then again though why settle to the tune of millions if you are innocent? Besides, I wasn't talking about that, I was talking about the sense I got of him from this interview as a human being and my conclusion was he's not very impressive, born into enormous privilege he had every possible advantage and still managed to blow it... entitled and clearly not very bright is quite a combination. By all accounts even his old pal Epstein exploited this and privately told people that Andrew was an idiot, but - to him - a useful one.

    The whole interview was VERY professionally constructed & implemented.
    Viewers have freedom to accept what they believe.
    For me, he was exposed & truly discredited beyond doubt.

      Very, very easy to recognise he was lying through the whole interview if you have any experience in interviewing guilty people. He clearly had none, so blindly dug his own grave. Bravo Emily for having the guts to do it.

    Emily is one of the few journalists/reporters who is not afraid to ask the correct questions, even if it could cost her her career. I have nothing, but admiration for her, it’s a pity other so called journalists couldn’t be more like her!

      Lol, get back in the knife nox, Miss Sharp. Maitless at the time she filmed this had a career spanning over 30 years. She’s had a heavyweight career in several countries, made many odocumentaries, covered hard news, was an editor of the Spectator, and spent well over a decade on the most heavyweight political show the BBC ever had, eventually becoming its lead anchor.

      On the rare occasion when journalists actually _do_ expose the truth yes, great respect, because they know they're going to get shut down & possibly lose their jobs & yes, as a democracy we absolutely _do_ need to hear the truth in matters which will affect our voting.
      However, that's not what happened during & after that interview is it?
      What happened was a very experienced interviewer asked a stream of carefully-phrased questions designed to entrap the idiot being interviewed & upon & around that a massive fantasy was built & sold (at 65p or more per daily copy) to the voracious public as fact when it blatantly bore no relationship with the tiny shreds of actual evidence presented.

    Final comment from James is unfair. Emily Maitlis didn’t bring down a member of the royal family; Andrew did that himself. She did a fantastic and difficult interview through which Andrew was exposed. We shouldn’t burden her with any feelings of responsibility for the fallout. You can see the seriousness with which she considered the subject throughout this clip which contrasted with James’ boyish and inappropriate excitement.

      If you're watching assuming guilt then yes. Have you tried watching, assuming innocence?
      I'm in no way saying he is innocent, I don't know. But it's certainly intersting to see both possible realities before making judgement.
      For example, how do you think you would perform in such a premeditated interview, knowing your innocence?

    I was very impressed with the interview - for me it was all the evidence needed that Emily (and the whole team) were a huge asset to the BBC. It's a shame they were not more confident supporting her when the UK Gov complained.

      @@freakishuproar1168 Nothing of the sort. A civil settlement was reached that meant he didn't have to serve prison time. The legal system allows money (fines/damages) in lieu of prison as punishment and it saves the taxpayers money.
      Even if imprisoned, he would have been allowed out to attend his mother's funeral, I surmise. That was the point I was making to the OP.
      You may be envious that he is not living in poverty, but I am not. But then, that's me.

      Yes. I have some respect for the Queen although I would like to think if I was born in the same position, I would say enough of this nonsense. She did however bring up at least two dysfunctional sons. Andrew, self explanatory, Charles cash in a suitcase from Saudi Arabia and allowing his employees to be made redundant in the week the country stopped ; also honours for a donor to one of his charities. I accept he was probably brought up not able to realise how corrupt that all was but that’s why it should all be done away with.

      And now she's left the BBC, maybe she'll have more opportunities to show off her journalistic prowess. It's just unfortunate that she chose to remain with them so long and assist them in their task of lying to the British people and covering up for the government.     she is journalism in its purist form and all that it stands for.
    truth no matter the circumstances/consequences to give you the facts to make your own informed decision.
    she could have easily ruined her career or had it ruined by others for the nature of that interview considering his status and all that would stand by the royals but she crafted it perfectly making it impossible to go any other way.
    a true masterclass of journalism/interview skills that will be studied and taught for years to come.

    Emily Maites's interview of Mr. Andrew was masterful. Emily Maitlis was well prepared and non-judgemental. She appeared to be calm and composed throughout the interview and was exceedingly patient in spite of his obvious evasiveness, feigned selective amnesia, framing all from his one-sided, biased perspective, and his repugnant, self-incriminating responses.

    It wasn't until Prince Andrew was 15 that he found out that people put stamps on letters because it was about paying for postage rather than because they liked his mother. True story. A prince asked a holy man how he could achieve enlightenment. The holy man asked him if he ever forgot that he was a prince. The prince replied no. The holy man said "Then until you forget, you will never achieve enlightenment".

    I watched their interview at least half a dozen times & i just heard it now (i watched it again) I cannot believe that he said what he said & neither she or anyone picked up on it!
    He said when she asked about when he was in J.E townhouse & HE replied “no, i was in Chicago, because the next day SHE (Virginia) and they all went to the island.” So he DOES know her!!!
    How the interviewer didn’t register this answer is wild! HOW did we all not notice?! She needs to speak up about this because this is BIG!! This is HUGE!!

      I think there is another book by one of Trump's team who mentions a few things about this case. The FBI were sandbagged took them weeks before they were given the name of Andrew's lawyers. Lots more stalling and then there was the young boy killed on his motorbike by the wife of a US diplomat. According to the book as the UK police obviously wanted her to comback to answer questions . The fix went in you don't get Andrew and we drop the case against the US woman.
      Now I now that's from a Trump flunky but still it has a horrible stench that you could believe could happen.

      He wanted it. His Personal Secretary resigned after advising him against it and being ignored. Andrew thought he could answer a few prearranged questions, put his side of the story to the public and be exonerated. He isn't wily enough to give the non answers of politicians.
